Hello Everyone

Long time lurker, first time poster. For those of us that like digital copies, over the next couple of weeks Microsoft has a lot of games on sale. In my opinion, there are some nice gems in there. I know some games may be on gamepass but I think there are some that would be nice to keep long term (given the price). Link to the full list of specials below:

  • Is there anyway of playing this on PC, without a Xbox?

  • +1

Resident Evil 2 and 3 is a good deal at $48

  • +3

    AC Origins 19 bucks

  • +2

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition $3.74 - very good game!

  • Thanks OP, finally bought GOW5

    • +3

I recently played through Gears 4 and 5 in co-op. Excellent games. And the series is kinda underrated now. I stopped caring about Gears after 3. But then I realised how much I missed playing a simple co-op campaign. Took me back to the games on the X360

  • I think I saw Dead or alive 6 for around $30 which given the digital foundry review taking up the improved performance on Series X, seems like a good deal.

    • Edit: Dead or Alive 6 (full game) $28.48

  • Think both rdr2 and gears 5 are on gamepass so might be better value subscribing if you don't need to keep forever.

    • +6

I can confirm RDR2 is no longer on Game Pass :(.

      • If you add a game when it was on Game Pass, can you keep playing after it removed from GP?

        • +2

          No

          • -2

@bdl: Thats too bad, I assumed this would be the same as PS+/

            • +3

@linhlink: The "Games with Gold" - those are similar to PS+, as in once you add them you can play them as long as your Gold subscription is active

              • @bdl:

as long as your Gold subscription is active

                Except for 360 games.

        • Game pass is like Netflix if they remove the show/game it’s gone… Gold you basically “rent” the game for as long as you have gold sub… wonder if they’ll remove gold games altogether at some point…

        • Yes, but you would have to have the game listed in gamepass to have 1 day left.

You would need to login on console and dedicate the main account for offline play upwards of 30 days, it applies to ea games, square enix games, Microsoft games, info, but not doing so will not only make the game pass game non workable, other games also.

After 29 days you will redeem the achievements for it, so yes to your question, but only for offline play, same for pc if your the main holder, however for console if you remove the power cord, and the internal clocks changed then the games unplayable and a reconnect to internet may appear, I think after 3 times or two hard resets, but you'll definitely need to connect after 29 days as the time in the system shouldn't be screwed with for consistency or it will assume the system has a new owner, or the games expired.

In regards to gold, a one off connection must be established,(that also applies for 30 days) I recall taking the Xbox one X over seas, all the games were unplayable on game pass, just a quick hotspot with the phone, and all the games are playable on gold, also including gamepass.

Still applies for Xbox series X, nothings changed unless Microsoft changes the policy.

      • that's disappointing, since when?

        • Beginning of September

  • Can I anyone confirm if I buy Gears 5 that this is definitely also the PC version? As I don't have an Xbox.

    • I believe Fullbrewz answered that above…

      • Thank you, just bought it and can confirm it works on PC.

        • Can you link G5, please?
I can't seem to find it, don't' want to mess this up.
          Thanks!

Edit- I can buy it through the app store at that price on my pc. I think I'll wait for the ultimate edition to come out at that price and the UE then.

  • Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled never seemed to take off the same way the N-sane collection did?

    • Nope. From memory there were some concerns around difficulty/AI… but if you're on a non Nintendo console, it's probably the best Mario Kart equivalent.

  • +5

    BioShock Collection for $18

    • +1

      That's well worth it.

Enjoying BioShock Infinite on the Series X at the moment.

      • Bioshock Infinite was great. I'll have to reinstall that and play again as I never did end up finishing the DLC.

    • Yep I bourght it too. Started replaying Bioshick 1 today. Amazing game. But it crashes a fair bit on my Xbox One X.

  • Is it worth the extra $12 bucks for the "Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition" at $52.65 instead of the ordinary?

    • +1

I also wondered that but decided I don't think I'll play online so the extra costumes/etc seem unlikely to be of much value to me.

    • I would grab a discounted Tomb Raider with the $12 difference :)

  • For Xbox Series X/S owners looking for titles with optimised versions (either now or soon)…

    Marvel's Avengers $49.97
    Watch Dog Legions $64.96

    • Avengers good yet?

      • +1

        When it’s $5
        or F2P.

Unfortunately it’s repetitive and mediocre. Which is something you can’t easily get away with. Anthem-like is not a positive description.

  • Is there any advantage to own games like Gears 5 permanently if you have maxed out a Gamepass subscription? I just don't see it leaving anytime soon and it's available via Project X Cloud.

    • Depends on whether you see that being a risk. I personally bought Forza Horizon after realising that the licence does run out and I didn't want to lose either my progress or the ability to drive around Australia (in FH3).

      • +1

I also bought FH3 as knew it was going to be delisted but don't see license issues or similar for Gears 5 considering it's being optimised for next gen. Then again, it is cheap considering it is the most recent game in the series (and still being regularly updated). I guess ownership of the game is a bonus if Gamepass gets too expensive by the time my subscription lapses.

    • +1

gears is ms game so it will never leave game pass

  • +1

Control Ultimate was a good price at about $35

Doom Eternal Deluxe with the season pass was also $47 for me. Wanted the season pass anyway so purchased that. Won’t need to insert my physical copy any more

    • Indeed - Control Ultimate Edition was posted separately this morning. I’ll be buying that - and it will receive its Series S/X update early next year.

Am tempted to start it but should ideally wait to experience the enhanced version. Should look incredible.

  • Any recommendations for Crash 4? Heard good things and was waiting for a price drop. Wondering whether it will drop more soon…

  • Nba2k1 non series x version so one X is $49 odd.

    • With Series X's quick resume, it makes digital version of the games more attractive.

      • Some people like physical copies so they can resell at a later date, YMMV

        • +1

Yeah, sold mine recently to EB. Not happy EB offered more credits to the PS4 version of the game. Had a choice to purchase either XBox One or PS4 version, thought XBox One version runs better.

      • Can still "quick resume" with disc version, but it's not really quick if you have to get up and put a disc in.

  • +1

RDR2 for little over $40. Best money you will ever spend with respect to bang for buck.

  • Madden 21 Deluxe version for $53.86 is a decent saving, considering you also get the X|S version which will be released on 4th December.
If you're on the fence about it you can get a 10 hour trial via EA Play

  • If you spend $70+ on xbox one (not 360) games, you'll also get a bonus 5000 points (worth ~$5 ish) through MS rewards (check the app on the console)

(Take a day or two to show up your current spend in the app, I'm about $7 short so will look for something else to get it to $70)

  • Does anyone ever buy those Dead Or Alive costume packs?

I loved unlocking a new costume in DoA3, but seeing hem being sold for hundreds makes a tad disgusted with the franchise.

I purchased the Tomb Raider a (I love Rise of) Just Cause 3/4 (they're a few bucks, and I really enjoy blowing stuff up) and Control.

    Anyone have some other recommendations?
