  • Any high value reward earning card recommendations (pref with good sign up bonus) with no/low FX fees? I'm already have 2x AMEX, so that rules it out…

  • If we don't have a Velocity account, will we get Citi point instead or we have to link a Velocity account?

    • +1

The way the offer is worded implies you have to link it to a Velocity account for the points to be credited and converted to Velocity i.e. you appear to have no way to leave it as standard Citi Rewards points

      • Got points in Citi points and didn't get email to register for Velocity. Points can be transferred to other partner as normal points.

        • How quickly did you receive the points?

  • +1

    Just got approved. Thanks

    • I applied for mine, still showing pending, however when i called them they said it's approved have to wait 48 hours it's been a week now… How are you going with yours?

  • +1

Applied for this last night and got approved this morning although had to call them (probably shouldnt but meh) to double check the PayAll charge as my email mentioned 2% fee when their own website says 0.95% and they confirmed it was the latter.

Let the points earning begin (aim is to get enough for a Euro holiday next year although there's always the option of buying LifeMiles points and redeeming them).

  • If I apply for this card, do the minimum spend and receive the bonus points - will I then be able to apply for a prestige card immediately after and still get the bonus points associated with the prestige card? Basically will getting this card exclude me from getting other Citi cards in the future and their associated bonus sign up points? Thanks

    • +1

If you read their T&C's, no such exclusion. Matter fact you can even get both at same time if got approved.

  • Got declined. Probably because I just got Prestige card recently?

    • I have the prestige for over a year now, and got approved.
Next time apply to both at the same time, not one after the other

      • I see.. thanks for the info.
Will probably have to cancel my prestige first before applying premier then

  • just got approved - so now i have premier alongside the citibank free for life 'rewards' card.

Anyone asked Citi already to ensure we don't get disqualified from bonuses? the T&Cs say new 'citi premier' customers only so im thinking its ok.

  • got declined, called and asked for manual re-assessment and approved next day

    • Never knew you could do this. Good to know!

    • I have never heard of this before. Was there a mistake on your initial application? What was the deciding factor when it came to them approving your app the second time around?

    • Sorry, what number was that?

      • +1

        general citi line

        • Hi, at what stage did you get the rejection?
I only filled out the part where you declared other credit cards and loan, after I hit submit, next page said can't approve.
I've been churning but closed a card yesterday; only have one cc now and it's only 1.6k limit and $300 outstanding. Though in the last two months I've churned quite a few cards.

          • @RTY: cant remember sorry but just call and ask for manual assessment

            • +1

@ozbargainerlife1: email address is: [email protected]

I just went Manual Assessment - application reference and didn't attach anything in email and asked for call back once they re-assess again but they just approved and no call back

            • @ozbargainerlife1: I called and they also asked me to email them with income statement etc, though email I got was @citiphone.com not citi.com, so I've emailed both.
Anyway if they won't approve me that's fine, I did churn many cards since I just moved into my home and bought many furniture on those cards, already saved a lot from those bonuses. I might just wait till July for the next card (12 month waiting period completed).

    • Hey, I am in the same situation and got told the same thing on the phone today.

Just wanted to know if you churned cards before doing the manual re-assessment for Citi? Just trying to understand my chances because I have been churning over the last year but I have good finances otherwise.

      • yep been churning cards before applying

  • Is it possible to retain the 220000 citi credit points and not convert them to velocity, by any chance

    • +2

It was issued as normal citi points for me. No need to convert to velocity.

      • did you receive the points with your statement issuance do did you have to wait? i think i met my spending requirement but dont see the points on my statement nor in the app.
        Thanks.

        • It was between the first and the second statement.

          • +1

@postman: thanks mate. got mine a couple of days after the first statement was issued.

          • +1

@postman: So you didn't turn on the auto sweep / transfer to Velocity and still got 220k Citi Rewards Points?

Update: all good thanks, saw your reply below which answered this.

  • Anyone know if we can take advantage of below offer and get extra 15% points via manual transfer ?

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/transf…

    • I'm planning to do it by turning off the autosweep. Worst case scenario they give me the normal 100k points instead but with the Velocity offer I'd still be on top by getting an extra 15k points instead of 10k points.

  • is this a better deal: https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI…

150,000 points, im assuming you can transfer to velocity?

    • This is better on a points per dollar value basis but I still went with pointhacks offer as I am happy enough with the value. If you’re happy to slowly accumulate than the one you posted is better value wise

  • Is Qantas Points better then Velocity?

Obviously Visa/Mastercard are more widely accepted but what about Amex, have you run into issues?

    • Its not about what is better, it is about what is more useful for you.

  • Is there any way to confirm if the promo has successfully been applied to your sign up? There's no mention of it in any of the emails after applying, so would be good to get some peace of mind.

    • +1

      You can call and ask

      • +1

Cheers, they were able to confirm as you said.

        • Hey was it the generic 13 24 84 number that you called?

  • anyone experienced a pending status but when calling them they advised your approved and to wait 48hours but still waiting?

  • 220,000 Citi Rewards is 2.5:1 to Krisflyer which is also a decent redemption.

That being said if you can utilise the 15% transfer bonus keeping your Velocity isn't the worst idea to maintain flexibility:

    220,000/2.5 = 88,000 KF

    (220,000*1.15/2) = 126,500 VFF = 81,600 KF

    • Downside is that if you are a new card holder it seems like they hold your transfer until presumably first statement? I tried transferring some out to VFF to meet the May transfer window, but the order has been processing for a few days.

      • Not sure about that. Do you have any other Citi cards open out of curiosity?

        • Sorry, I take that back. It has just hit my velocity account. Transferred on 17th and only noticed it today. This is my first ever Citi card

      • I signed up with Citi for the first time with this card and managed to transfer before 1st statement, it took 1 or 2 days to appear in my velocity account.

        • Yep, it hit my account after 4 days, I was wrong. Btw to answer your (our) 220k points and auto sweep query. On the application page under "Things you should know" on point 3 - Points Autosweep, it says "You may opt out of Points Autosweep at any time and still be able to manually redeem your Citi reward Points for Velocity Points." I'm going to turn it on and select the last day of the month in order to fulfil the criteria of enabling autosweep and turn it off when the points arrive. Hopefully, I catch the points before auto transfer.

          • +1

@mbarg: You don't need to convert to Velocity if you prefer citi points.

        • How soon after hitting min spend did you receive your citi points?

          • @Autonomic: several days after the first statement, after meeting the spending requirement.

  • Has anyone managed to obtain a pro rata refund on the annual fee after receiving the points?

  • I applied at 11pm and was approved the next morning. I have a Citi Prestige as well currently.

  • Anyone know the arrival time for the physical card?

    • +1

Mine arrived two days after approval, was very quick.

  • Has anyone else managed to receive the 220,000 Citi points by not enabling Autosweep?

    • +1

I've just completed my required spending and hoping to get the 220k without enabling autosweep. I wonder what the alternative offer would be if it marks me ineligible? will keep you posted

    • +3

Yes, they will credit 220K citi points. You can choose to keep it as is without autosweep. This is the exact wording from their email after the point has been credited: "If you don’t set-up the Points Autosweep, the 220,000 Citi reward Points will remain on your Citi reward Points balance."

      • Thanks, good to know it's in writing. How long after meeting the minimum spend did you receive the email?

      • Ahh interesting. When did you get the points and email?

        • +1

several days after the first statement, after meeting the spending requirement.

    • Confirmed I didn't have autosweep on and got the 220k rewards point. Got it 2 days after receiving my first statement. After the points are manually transferred next month for the Velocity bonus points I'll call to cancel and get annual fee pro-rata refund.

  • Has anyone tried using bpay to pay off a property loan in order to meet the $8k spend requirement?

    • You can definitely use PayAll to do it. Not sure about otherwise.

  • Have met the minimum spend, presume I need to wait for next statement now.

  • I just got approved but the whole application process was a shit show.

    • Applied on Friday 17/May afternoon. Application page presumably timed out after I filled in all the info and hit "submit".
    • Asked to contact live chat, which I did. Live chat was useless and only gave me the generic helpline to call.
    • Called the number, the guy on the phone said my application is showing as submitted and gave me the application ID and reference number (but incorrectly, letter "B" instead of the correct number "8") so I can try resuming my application online
    • Couldn't find my application as it was the wrong reference number
    • Received a text message and email on Sat 18/May advising that I have an application in process, this time with the correct reference number
    • Clicked into it, but still nothing found
    • So I manually uploaded all the documents including proof of income, identity and residency to the nominated email address
    • Received another text asking for additional documents on proof of other income such as rental statements, despite having provided these initially
    • Uploaded again via their online portal on Mon 20/May evening
    • Approved Tue 21/May
  • Just checking, anyone got the Citi bonus points after using payall amount option?

    • I've used it previously to meet the minimum spend for Citi Prestige.

  • Can someone please comment if they have confirmed with Citibank that council / govt related payments are included in the 8k spent ?

Their T&C doesnt say they are excluded:

110,000 Velocity Points via Points Autosweep
To be eligible to receive 110,000 Velocity Points, you must apply for a new Citi Premier Credit Card by 2 September 2024, spend a minimum of $8,000 on eligible purchases using your new card within 3 months from approval and provide your Velocity membership number to us to enrol in Points Autosweep. Eligible purchases exclude Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds and Chargebacks.
