[iOS, macOS, Android] SkySafari 7 Pro - iOS $14.99, Android $16.99 (80% off) @ Apple App Store / Google Play Store

130

They are having a sale for SkySafari 7 Pro 80% off, all time low apparently according to their pop up on the app. The other two versions are on sale too.
If you have been holding out for this one, now is the time.

Not much of an eclipse in AU though, the Devil comet is coming soon, once (or twice if your lucky) in life time event this one, every 70 years.

I will probably end up getting the Pro version but the Plus is probably sufficient for most casual astronomers and myself.

Clear skies.

  • Newbie question - if this is Sky Safari 7, does it mean when 8 comes out we'd need to pay again to use it?

Also, is Pro worth it over Plus or Basic? (assume for someone who doesn't own a telescope and just wants to stare at the sky)

    • +1

Looking at the current situation of their products, looks like you would need to pay again.
They are still selling SkySafari 6 Pro for $29.99AU currently on IOS App store.

If you just want to stare at the sky I would look for a free app, I use others they are quite good, without a telescope you would not see much. But with a telescope you may not see that much either, it's just dots of light, with a telescope it is still dots of light. You can see planets with naked eye, just after sunset, the few brightest dots could be planets.

Or just get basic, I have been using that one and I like it, never wanted to upgrade until now.

      Try these free ones.

Stellarium, Sky Tonight, Sky Guide, Night Sky, Star Walk 2, I use these randomly.
Some of these would help you find stuff with AR, point the phone at the sky to location things.
In the city you will not see much.

      • I think unless you're super dedicated then I wouldn't worry too much about version 8.

The features might be slightly more involved but I wouldn't bet on any new solar or interstellar bodies being discovered within that time ;)

  • Many thanks OP and thank you for sharing.

Looking forward to using this. Its been on my App Sliced (https://appsliced.co/) list for some time.

    • No problems.

I ended up buying the IOS Pro version, but the Plus version probably would of sufficed and saved $10.
The pro version has extra stars that you probably would need an observatory with a giant telescope to make use of to see, that said if I bought the plus version I would I wished I got the Pro version…. I primarily wanted the Plus or Pro version to control my GoTo scope, but from IOS, you can only connect via network and not bluetooth like on Android.
