  • I’ve got a bunch of old tenda units that I still use.
I reset a couple of older ones that I no longer use and put them into use at a relatives house to solve their wifi problems and they worked fine.
The problem was even after resetting them and using a completely new account it still brought up my current live network from 5km away. Anyone who gets one of your units or even an old one that you once used can take control. I’m not convinced that the security is good enough with these devices

    • Personally I don't like anything app based that stores config in the cloud. Provides no benefit and essentially only risk.

      • If you don't need remote control, then you don't need to register an online account, thus no config in the cloud. In this case, you can only manage locally.

        • I've found typically the apps sync data to the cloud so you can restore the app to another phone? I haven't used tenda, just a few others (tplink etc) which is why my comment was general.

  • +1

The issues I had with the Tenda was you have no capacity to access the network settings through your web browser (eg 192.168.0.1) - you have to install their app and then log in through your tenda account. From memory you couldnt set static ip addresses and basically your control of the network was minimal.

I would probably rather spend double and get a better quality system with two nodes.

Tenda Wi-Fi 6 mesh systems support Web GUI management and have some advanced features manageable.

      • i had an mx3 so maybe it is an older model. Can you set static IP addresses now?

        • If it's MX3 (not MW3), then static IP can be configured. If you have problem configuring, please contact Tenda.

  • I replaced my tenda with tp link deco, literally night and day. I don’t recommend tenda at all after 2 years of painfully patchy internet. And 6 tenda units

  • difference between mx3 and mx12? not really apparent from the website other than they look different
