    • It's a real offer, I checked the app and it was there for me. Targeted though.

  • I just paid for it now $38.40 for the whole year. maybe it is only for Uber One members

    • Not Uber one and no deal for me.

    • +1

Its targeted - I got it.

  • +16

I just got 80% off, $19.20, great deal

    • Same here

    • +12

Pretty much every order I placed barely met the “latest time” let alone be on time like they use to before despite being on Uber one.

Quality of service is so bad, I wouldn’t order from them even if they were free like before. Let alone with all the BS charges. Either order direct from the restaurant or go pick it up yourself.

      • +4

It's a balancing act, sometimes I can turn an $80 order into a $30 cost, say a $20 free pad Thai, half price discount code. That's when it's worth the stresses of late deliveries.

Agree, if its close to the same price or more expensive, dont bother as you might end up getting cold food or waiting a long time.'

Also if you have any issues with the order, use the live chat/chat bot to log it, I've had multiple free items, once my $28 seafood pack was missing the flake, they refunded the $28 instantly (thankfully had enough food so no issue)

      • +3

Also adding to my own comment, pretty sure this is because the drivers have been trying to fish for a tip before you drop your food off. Not saying they don’t deserve compensation but holding my food hostage for a tip is very low.

I am guessing this because one driver took 50min to deliver when Google maps said 15min and another set at a servo for about 20mins. Pretty low behavior I think.

        • +4

If sitting somewhere or taking ages then it's most likely because they are multi apping and trying or are running multiple orders on different platforms. Accept an order on UE then wait to see if anything comes through on Doordash or Menulog. If it does, then grab it and then deliver two orders. End result is drivers sit and wait for orders or they end up driving all over the city in different directions delivering.

    • oh me too, fantstic offer!

  • +5

    Only got 20% off… boo

    • +1

Keep saying no. I got offered 40% off today after denying 20% off yesterday. Hopefully it keeps going…

  • +17

+~30% markup from restaurant to compensate for uber fees + $5 delivery fee + $4 service fee…
May as well just order directly from restaurant

    • +3

We do this for our favourite/repeat restaurants. But giving payment details to 50 different random, badly maintained websites isn’t ideal - and calling on the phone has its own issues.

Most restaurants seem to up their prices for Uber eats - the local kebab place has $12 on the sign and $18 on Uber Eats.

      • +4

UE's marked up prices is only better if there is a good Uber One offer that makes it lower than restaurant costs or a BOGOF deal that makes it cheaper per dish than restaurant. Or both when combined is also amazing as well.

        • -3

…offer that makes it lower than restaurant costs

Why you want restaurants to go out of business

          • +1

@andresampras: … You do realise it comes out of Uber's marketing/promotional budget right?

            • @pennypincher98: No, I didn't :)

I keep hearing about how this megacorps are squeezing every last drop out of the little restaurateurs. I just assumed the restaurants would be funding these offers, directly or indirectly / long or short term

              • @andresampras: I mean if the restaurant itself offers a discount - for example a dish for $16 was $19 - I think the restaurant funds that (might be some agreement with Uber) but things like "Spend $30 Save $15" are funded by Uber. Only by utilising Uber's offers with restaurant offers can you get things "below cost" - which the restaurant is still making money on.

They absolutely do charge hefty fees but they're a platform that can only survive if restaurants, customers and riders actually use it.

      • +1

I use a Wise digital visa debit card. If i need to give CC details to some dodgy takeaway i do an instant payid transfer into the Wise card. If that digital card ever gets compromised in any way there's no money in it to take and I'll just delete the card and create another one.

    • Technically there's no delivery fee and a reduced service fee for Uber One members. The markup is still usually a killer though.

      • +4

Not always. Sometimes they put min purchase amount etc. I signed up but am finding it worse than years gone by. Even with Uber One you have to wait ages and the driver often stops at other places. If you want quick delivery - you still pay more. If you want the driver not to stop elsewhere etc - you still pay more. Instead of being our go to, it's often a last resort type of thing even with UberOne for us.

        • +1

Yeah, the value has dropped massively. It used to be you'd get a 10% discount on all uber rides. So as long as you were already spending $100 on uber fares anyway, it was worth it, and the Uber Eats discounts were just an added bonus. Now it's 5%, so it's twice as many trips before it pays for itself.

I only sign up when there's a free membership these days.

    • +1

lets not ignore that there's been some genuinely great uber one exclusive deals over the last few months

      • +1

Thats the main reason i got it - just one of those 30-50% off offers would pretty much pay for the yearly fee ($38.40 in my case).

      • That will have to come to an end eventually. They are trying to lock customers in their platform first by burning money.

      • Those tend to be targeted, and become less frequent the longer you've been a member

      • +2

You can tell a lot of people here haven't actually been using Uber One. There have been some ridiculous discounts and offers. I once got $100 of food for $40. And the restaurants near me aren't much cheaper in person than on Uber Eats.

    • +8

I only ever order when I'm able to stack multiple discounts together to make it substantially cheaper than ordering in store. For example:

      • 10% off using discounted Uber gift cards from Amazon
      • 20-50% off with frequent Uber One promotions/discount codes
      • extra store specific discounts and promotions (e.g. buy 1 get 1 free, discounted items, free items with orders over a particular spend)
      • free delivery and reduced service fees with Uber One
      • free 6 months Uber One membership from PayPal, Mastercard etc.
    • … and with the bonus of cold food and possibly missing items

    • yeah i dont get it either. Looking for cheap things Uber Eats is not it.

    • Yup , 56% in case of El Jannah lol ,plus so called delivery and service fees , so ridiculous that its almost funny , even 40% off does not make it not worthwhile , only way ubereats or doordash gets my money is for groceries like coles , or some outlets like oporto who dont price jack as much .
Personally , i dont think its worth paying for ubereats , thinking its worth it is like a self fulfilling prophecy , just take advantage of the mastercard offers .
On an ethical level , dont want to give any money if i can help it to a POS company that was built on the back of exploitation and finding loopholes.

  • Got 60% off as well, no brainier

    • +6

I'm not brainier either, must have done something wrong.

  • +6

Nothing for me, Uber One customer. Last month of free Mastercard 6 months.

    • +1

Mine says 6 months free from mastercard until 6 may but also says at top 6 months free from mastercard starts on 6 may.

      • I have 4 months and 4 months but I think thats an error

    • Nothing for me, Uber One customer. Last month of free PAYPAL 6 months.

      • +1

I'd try to cancel there'll probably be some discount they offer you.

        • +2

Just did this from PayPal promo and I got 90pc off for the next 3 months.

          • @Ladcake: Lol i clicked end membership, it was cancelled no questions asked

  • +2

40% off for me - thanks OP

  • +1

Hmm it says 4 weeks free, then $96/year for me. No discount. :(

  • +2

    nothing for me

  • +2

    Damn, 20% off..

  • +23

For anyone considering this take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVYG1mu8Lg8&t=433s

Whole video is very worth watching, but if you do not have time just watch from 7:33 (where my link starts) next approx 5 minutes.

    • +1

      Thanks. Excellent info.
I didn't get this offer but won't be subscribing unless it's free

    • +1

Solid advice - tbh Idm getting it at this price only if they still run the Uber One special regularly. But I'm worried they are going to stop after I sign up for the annual plan.

    • +2

Just watched it yesterday and was going to post until I saw your message. Definitely a must-watch for all OzBargainers.

I actually think the discount membership campaign is Uber's response to this.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing. There's two ways to fight back against these tactics. One is not to sign up. The other is to sign up when there's discounts like this and only use it when stuff is heavily discounted. I reckon it depends on whether you could be bothered with the second option.

    • Thanks for the video. This stuff is actually enraging.

  • +4

How do you find if you are targeted?

    • +5

You are fed the offer upon opening the UE app

      • Dammit-no offer on opening and go to Uber One section and only offers 20% for a year. Will check tomorrow

  • Does uber still give $30 free for first order?

  • That's cheaper than the Door Dash student price.

  • 40% here - I bit the bullet. Thanks OP

  • +4

Paying money? I thought the strategy was to use the X months free offers, immediately cancel so it stops after the free months, then not use it until the next time a X months free offer came up.

  • So if we all jump onto the annual plan, we will no longer be recieving the random offers as they have you locked in anyway.

    • I was “locked” into the free six months from Paypal and received some great promos. People still have to use the app during that year for it to be profitable for Uber Eats. If you don’t use it and only wait for promos (which is what I do), they’ll eventually put the promos on.

  • Got an offer for 80% off, only $19.20 for one year! Took it up. :)

  • +2

Was on 6 months free, went to cancel, offered 90% off for one month, accepted, now 80% off for a year.

  • +3

I didnt get this offer but when i went to cancel, i was offered for 90% off for 3.months.

    • Same

  • Seems like they recently changed promos stacking with an extra % discount. Not sure if this is just me?

  • $792 saved since joining Uber one…no wonder not targeted nor offered a discount when I clicked end membership…

    • +1

$1200 saved here. Got 20% when ‘change plan’ button clicked

      • I used another account which had 80%…

  • I had 40% closed it..how do I get it back lol

  • On 90% off for 3 months. Got offered 60% off annual.

Not too sure on the annual because UE offers have kinda dried up recently.

    • Same. I finally took the 90% off 3 months because I figured a bird in the hand.

  • I got 40% but Uber One Renews on 1 Aug, 2024, and doesn't seem like I can opt-in to this 40% off

    • My monthly Uber Eats renewed in May, but I was offered 80% off. I went to pay for the yearly offer via Apple Pay and it came up full price. I switched to Paypal and then the 80% off price came up and I paid (and took screenshots 😁).
Weird because it didn’t seem to be a Paypal promo, but that might work for you…?

  • +1

    Uber eats legit sucks now.

Much worse quality and time of service even from when it was free. I try to avoid them as much as possible.

  • -2

I am 6 months free until Sept. why would i pay $38 until Sept

    • Your yearly discounted subscription won’t begin until September.

  • I have uber eats for 3 more months. Will this offer start after 3 months or from today?
<Update> My bad, this yearly will get applied after my 3 months. All good

  • 20% yeah nah.

  • Here might be a good place to post this, I didn't post it as a deal as it could be targeted. After my PayPal 6 month deal was coming to an end I went to cancel and it offered me another month for $1. Why not I thought, got a few deals that month, cool. Did the same thing next month and same deal, another month for a $1. 3rd time it offered me 3 months for $3. That's where I'm at now. $1 is good value imo if they have voucher deals come up.

  • What’s the original price for a monthly plan?
    I don’t use UE a lot but 80% is so irresistible🥺

    • I used to only consider starting a monthly plan when there is a great Uber one exclusive deal

    • +1

Believe full price is $96/yr or $10/month if I recall correctly.

Haven't ever paid that much though lol.

  • Wife waited 1.5 hours for sandwich the other. I don't know why she bothers with this..

  • The issue is that majority of dishes I order all cost $3 or $4 more on Uber eats than the price in the same restaurant. I only use Uber eats for rare occasions.

  • Mine lapsed end of March and wasn't worth the full price but i'd consider a big ass discount for it.
guessing it's only for existing members not new?

  • Not targeted, on 6 months free from mastercard

  • If I currently have a few months free remaining from the Mastercard deal and I sign up for this, will that cancel the existing free months or will the annual plan start only after the remaining free months are over?

  • +1

Mine is only 20% off to change to annual. So I went to cancel and it offered me 90% off for 3 months.

  • Got $25 off x 2 orders offer last week to switch to annual, nothing else. Free uber one expires mid- August.

  • +2

90% off for 3 months. I got this while I was trying to cancel the 6 month Mastercard promo.

  • Had the 20% off annual last week and ignored it. 60% today expires 22/4 so I jumped on it, why not. The money saved on the discounted gift cards the other day basically paid for it.

  • Not worth it, you'd end up wasting a lot of money 😂

    • you dont always feel like cooking and not everyone drives

      • -2

No wonder Australians can’t create unique dishes

        • yeah sorry everyone should always be cooking for themselves and living life by your rules

  • If I am on a Uber Mastercard promo - 6 free months which expires in July. If I accept this Uber One Annual membership promo, does it add 12 months extra to my July end date? Or will it take effect immediately from today and end my Uber Mastercard promo?

    • After ur existing sub

  • Finally!! My membership ran out so I've been waiting for another deal. I didn't have an offer in the app so paid for 1 month and cancelled my renewal straight away saying it was too expensive and was immediately offered a 3 month extension at 90% discount when its time to renew in a month.

    Thanks so much. :)
