Obtaining an Address from ABN

This may be a long shot, but I need to serve documents on a sole trader who has ripped me off nearly a grand.
I have an ABN, phone number, email address, invoice, website etc. Just no address, which I need to file with small claims.
Does anyone know how I can get this?
An ABN lookup is not helpful and neither is an ASIC search.

Thanks in advance!

Use another contact person to arrange an appointment, utilising his services?

    • How would that give you their address?

Don't need an address to serve them in person, just to hand the forms over.

I believe in some forms of court paperwork you can even leave them at their feet and it's still counted as being served

          Sneaky…

  • I hadn't thought of that.
However, I think he knows he's dodgy so will be overly cautious if someone asks for his address.
I doubt he'll give it out freely

Don't need his address, you just need to be at the place he agrees to meet up and you film yourself handing them the papers

  • If it is a company or trust, do a director/trustee search on ASIC. It is $9 I think.

    • Thanks mskeggs, tried that already there's no information available

    • It says he is a sole trader.

    • Thanks, you saved me a reply. I refer to my answers on this post!
Good luck Op, chasing up sole traders can be tough.

  • You could try a free trial at creditorwatch.com.au

Enter the phone number in reverseaustralia.com

Search by name in whitepages.com.au and see if any results match the phone number.

  • If you know his movements you could follow him home.

You could get a mate to pretend to want to do business with him, and then do the "you've been served" thing from American movies. Always a funny moment. Your friend might need to be someone authorised to do that for a living or whatever.

    • Aw man. I just got served. Feels bad :(

  • Do they have a registered trading name? If so clicking trading name on the ABN search website should go to ASIC, which may show the address for service of documents.

  • PM me ABN, i can help you

    • You could get in trouble under the Privacy Act if caught.

  • Does anyone know how I can get this?
