How many TVs these students need?

  • +2

Do they have an equivalent offer for 65 or 75"?

    • +1

      65 ($2,699.40) and 77 ($4,319.40) only have the correct 38% off

  • +2

get a cheap old tv from marketplace to get that $100 off

    • -2

Currently running a 54" 2011 Viera made in Japan plasma, cost me $75, works great in the second living area for occasional usage. No need to upgrade & if this one fails just repeat the process.

      • I have ordered S90C for $1400 from previous deal, still I didn't trade my current Sony IPS which I got for $70 as I have seen QA issues on these Samsungs. At least I will end up with a refund + my old TV.

        • -1

They do not build them like they used to! Sure the plasma chews more power but it's only used for a few hours at a time at absolute most. Everything looks great on it…broadcast TV & Apple TV content inc sport. I wish they still made them!

    How is a 2023 model a preorder?

Great price for a bright OLED though. Pity no Dolby vision.

    • +1

IMO not having Dolby Vision isn't a dealbreaker, I'm more than happy with HDR

      • +3

DV has pretty much won the standards war so not having it on a 2023 model is pretty shit.

        • are there any readily accessible sources ? I have seen Youtube HDR and HDR10+ videos recorded in my phone. Netflix HDR package is expensive. Not planning to buy Bluray either.

          • @bazingaa: IMHO anyone serious about 4k is buying UHD discs, which increasingly feature Dolby Vision and HDR10. It's night and day watching the same movies on disc vs streaming - most noticeable for me are the absence of crushed/pixellated blacks (a major issue with the compression used by streaming services) and vastly better audio quality.

Netflix and Disney both have DV although the quality is often iffy. For example, the blacks in Kenobi were horribly compressed/blocky. I think Prime also has it, Fallout looked pretty good.

I guess I see it as strange to go 99% the way with a 4k HDR OLED set only to not include DV.

            • @caitsith01: getting UHD for every movie would be very expensive though. I think I have a Pirates of Caribbean UHD disc from a sale (HD+UHD bundle), which I still couldn't play as I don't have an old CPU supporting SGX. I used to play other discs on LG WH14NS60 which can read UHD as well, also got a Xbox one which only supports HD discs.

@bazingaa: Yeah, it's definitely annoying in terms of buying stuff again on physical media. There are really good review sites though, so I tend to only buy stuff that is actually taking advantage of the format and stream the rest. No regrets, some things are amazing. E.g. watched Dunkirk the other day, it looked and more importantly sounded fantastic on a 4k UHD.

                • @caitsith01: does used Ubp-X700 for $130 sound like a deal ? or are the better cheap alternatives ?

                  • +1

@bazingaa: Certainly does, although be aware that you have to manually switch between Sony Vision and regular HDR (not a huge deal in practice) whereas other players (Panasonic) don't make you do that. I have the 700 and a Panasonic and they are otherwise both excellent. IMHO paying a lot for a player is a waste of cash as there's only so much that happens in-player.

                    • @caitsith01: thanks mate! picked it up and it had original firmware 0277, had to update with USB to 0292. My TV doesn't support Dolby Vision (S90C from other deal) so I have kept it at "off" anyway. I connected HDMI2 to AVR for audio and getting Dolby TrueHD (no DTS track in this disc). I think Samsung doesn't support DTS passthough so this would be the best way to handle it.

do you know any place to get cheap UHD discs ? I only got one with me right now even for testing.

                      • +1

@bazingaa: Sounds like a good setup, enjoy. TrueHD sounds miles better than anything from previous formats/streaming and I don't think you're missing much without DTS.

I buy discs from a variety of places, but mostly from JB Hi Fi when they do their deals (3 for the price of 2) or by just browsing their collection, sometimes stuff is randomly priced at $15-20, sometimes from Amazon who do a lot of flash sales for UHD discs, and sometimes from ebay where people seem to flip a lot of discs for around $20 depending on the disc.

I believe pre-order is often used in replacement of back-order for some reason.

Also just bought the 55in G3 for $1999 from the LG deal here, just because I wanted DV and DTS passthrough. Along with just liking LG over Samsung.

      • Bit misleading then aye. Preorder is definitely not the same as a backorder.

  • really need to figure out how to get an edu account..

  • How does one access Samsung epp and edu?

  • use Samsung Shop App for further 5% discount

  • Mine showing $1609 on Samsung EPP store with first order 5% off and $100 trade-in

Still waiting for 65 OLEDs to come back on sale. The LG C3 65' was $999 in the US for the last couple of weeks. Hoping we see that kind of discounting here. OLED's are bloody expensive!

  • Saw this the other and thought meh coz it's $1700 for only 55 inches

  • Good luck if you guys can receive your product / refund. Suggest checking https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung-online-sto… before you buy anything from Samsung

I think it depends, I have purchased 2 phones, 2 watches and a charger but never had issues. All were delivered by Auspost though. Ordered a TV and waiting to br delivered on Friday and let's see how it goes.

      • +1

It was delivered yesterday and everything was pretty smooth

        • Good for you! Maybe I was just the unlucky guy. I ordered my fridge for 3 weeks, they accepted my order, promised to deliver, but no delivery at the end and cancelled my order without any reason. Re-ordered again, still the same.

          • @karlison: oh! that's bad then, For me, they have delivered on the day which I have selected when ordering (it was a instock item S90C, not preorder), and they have used a courier called "ANC" https://ancdelivers.com.au/ They sent me the scheduled delivery window 2 days back, and it was out for delivery in the morning of the day. Then I was able to see the driver's location with GPS when they are nearby.

  • Now or wait for the EOFY sale?
