      4k @ 3hz sounds painful.

      • +1

Not bad if you’ve got a 4k e-ink display though!

    Lenovo dock is crap

    • Got your point(s).

    • +2

What makes you say that ? Used one for years with Lenovo laptop and it has been great

      • +2

I've used one for years with a HP laptop and had no problems

    • +1

Have used one for years, with Asus, HP, Dell and Lenovo laptops without issue. Laptop might need a new driver to support Dual monitors @4k60, but has been flawless besides that.

Why do you say they're crap?

Edit: I might have a newer one that can do dual 4k60…looks like this one can't

      • yes probably cannot do 2x4k60 over usb-c, might require thunderbolt.

@OP, make this one $50, then it is a deal. https://metrocom.com.au/product/lenovo-thinkpad-hybrid-usb-c…

  • Buy 2 or more and it is cheaper here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265216802362

  • Newbie query - does anyone know if I can use this dock to run 2 external monitors whilst running my laptop screen as well? (3 screens with none duplicated) ..or is that a feature/limitation of the laptop graphics?

    • +2

2 external monitors whilst running my laptop screen as well?

According to this, yes you can run dual 1080p monitors @ 60hz: https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd029622

or is that a feature/limitation of the laptop graphics?

Yep, that's also going to be a limiting factor.

    • +1

I did that previously with this dock, and a Thinkpad T480. No idea what the laptop graphics were.

    • +1

Can confirm the Lenovo dock will support 3x displays, one being the laptop

    • +2

Yes this is possible, I've set people up like this at work. This is probably more of a 'can my laptop do this?' rather than the dock.

    • Thanks for all the responses guys - much appreciated.

    • Not the exact same as what you're asking but I run a T480 and L580 with three monitors.

2 x DP from the Lenovo dock, and one via HDMI connected to the T480 or L580 itself.

I also have used the dock to run the same 3 displays from a Carbon X1 that I bought new over Xmas, same setup 2xDP, 1xHDMI.

Works great and I miss not having three displays when I'm away from my office.

  • +1

Those display outputs are pretty limiting

    • just buy the appropriate cables, though this adds to the cost.

      • +3

I meant more re resolution and refresh

  • What would be the most viable one here for a surface pro 5 that would be suitable please.

    • +1

Surface pro 5 has usb A not usb C
I ended up getting a used surface pro dock with the magnetic surface connector

  • @MetroCom I use a portable monitor with USB C plugged to the macbook pro, any of these docks output video over USB C?

  • Would this be OK for a home office setup with 2 monitors? Doesn't look like it has HDMI ports?

    • +1

      Has 2 display ports.

    • +1

      Usually displays have both ports.

  • Lenovo is really bad in hw design of USB-powered laptops. Even had to publish lists of faulty models, but in next generations similar issues remained. Can't say anything about the dockstation, but I would strongly not recommend using their laptops on USB-C charge after warranty. Any models and series.

  • Note these ThinkPad docks use DisplayLink, they're great for just adding additional displays to pretty much any PC if you've run out of native display outputs.

    • The specific ThinkPad dock listed here (DK1633 40A9) does not support DisplayLink. The HP dock (HSN-IX02 G2) which is also listed for $79.99 does support DisplayLink.

  • Thank you. Do you have any 100W output versions ?

  • Got mine brand new (and free) from work - great product.

  • 1 usb-c port :||

  • Site footer shows PayPal icon but there is no option to pay with PayPal when checking out? I even created an account to see if it was required.

    • Hi mate, we removed Paypal checkout not long ago due to high fees and long holding time. Sorry for any inconvenience.

  • +1

Does anyone had any issues with receiving the orders? I ordered a week ago just got the email that they have the order but not sent yet apparently. Should I get worried? Cheers

    • Hi mate we have run out of chargers for some of the models and new batch of chargers will arrive on Friday. Once arrived we will dispatch asap. Sorry for the delay.
