  • Cant see a sous vide function, is there a way to emulate that on this model?

On my instant pot duo (different model), it's really easy to use and much faster and easier than using the ANOVA sous vide stick.

    • Yeah, nah this doesn't do sous vide.

    • I use the sous vide function on my IPD as well, but it's not really a 1 to 1 replacement for a stick. My IPD isn't super-accurate on the set temp and there's no water circulation to keep the water temp even. It will work (people sous vide in dishwashers…), but not ideal.

People don't sous vide in dishwashers, they just stream in them

I have an Inkbird and the large IP. My experience with the instant Pot has been great as far as sous vide goes. I guess I'm not that much of a foodie, but having a lid maybe makes a difference

      • Works well enough for cooking a steak. I’ve got an Anova as well and the Instant Pot is a lot easier to Sous Vide with.

While this is a decent price for an 8L Nova it still isn't a great buy for an Instant Pot imho.
If your after a good pressure cooker at this size, by all means this is a good buy.
If you want an 8L Instant Pot that can do sous vide and "cake baking" 🙄 hang out for a duo plus that frequently comes down to a similar price on Amazon or at Costco.
I have a 5.7L duo plus and wouldn't want the hassle cleaning anything larger. These can be had at about $130.
If I'd buy it again I'd shop for an evo or pro to get the pot (or one compatible with the pro pot, has handles). But the cost probably still isn't worth it.
Still, these are all great easy mode pressure cookers.

    • I was at Costco today and saw that they have the Instant Pot Duo 5.7L (in a sexy black colour) on special at the moment for $134.99.

      • It's okay. Really depends if you want the sous vide feature, the duo doesn't do it. So this is good for a 5.7l instant pot, but not best when it comes to additional functionality that often sees a ~$130 price tag

        • Ahh that's a great catch. I have the Duo Plus myself (with SV) and didn't realise this Duo Cuisine at Costco doesn't have it.

          • @GhostofB: There's some logic to their naming conventions be not always obvious to the average consumer. Actually feels like they're trying to be deceptive. Duo, limited to 7 functions (cuisine at Costco), duo plus (gourmet at Costco) gets 9. Nova, i don't even really nova. Pro and evo get the option to have handles, and wifi, why tf this kinda device needs wifi.

          • +1

@GhostofB: The Gourmet is often on discount as well.

I’ve got an 8L Pro with crisp and I love it. It is a bit of a beast to wrangle but really glad I bought it for batch cooking and pot in pot for things like porridge. The crisp is good for things like frozen nibbles like fish, chips, etc.

I’d advise against 5.7. I have the 8L and I feel it’s just big enough for soups and what not for 2 ppl plus leftovers

        • +2

What the heck are you putting into soup?

5.7L is plenty big enough for 2 people for almost everything.

          • +1

@TEER3X: I now regret getting the 5.7 - it's not 5.7 useably - max fill line is at 3.75 litres, and some things just very barely fit. You'd want 5 litres useable volume, like a big old stock pot

          • @TEER3X: I batch cook soup and freeze leftovers. The 8L is what we mostly use now.

        • I wouldn't advise against it for that. I make bone broth with about half the capacity of the 5.7L and then use that to make soups (stews, chili, risotto, etc) for 2 that'll serve 6 meals over a week (other meals in the mix) with home made noodles.

          • @ohgee: Who’s bones?

            • @Mokej: Usually chicken little, sometimes lambie.

    • This looks to be the 5.7L duo plus (with sous vide) for $145 https://www.devaro.com.au/products/instant-pot-pro-plus-mult…

  • A version of this comes with an air fryer correct? Wouldn't that be a better buy ?

    • For the right price a duo crisp would be the better buy. The lid is effectively another appliance, but space is limited. All things considered, they have been around at the $150-160 range and def worth a go there

    • For the extra price you can buy a seperate air fryer tho

  • +1

My Duo Crisp is brilliant, Airfry whole chickens or other medium roasts, slow cook casseroles, pressure cook ribs.
That and the coffee machine are only machines that never go ‘away’

Here's an update on last years bankruptcy proceeding for those who are interested, good news.

The instapot or this Phillips all in one?

  • Are these good at cooking rice? e.g. replacing a rice cooker.

    • I'd like to know this as well

    • +1

I have the instant pot pro, which is slightly different - it has a flat base whilst the one in this deal doesn't, I believe - but I've managed to get great rice results with basmati and jasmine. You really have to get the ratios and times right, and give it some time to relax after, but it does really well and won't stick if you've done it right!

    • Multi-cookers can cook rice, but the results aren't as fool-proof since they cook in a very different way. I switched from a multi-cooker to a Japanese rice cooker and I woudn't go back.

      • What is the benefit
