It's a bit unreasonable to compare the two given one folds and the other doesn't.

      • +28

Any phone folds if you try hard enough.

        • +19

This one works when you unfold which is advantage

          • +2

@Tleyx: Will this chain made me laugh a little too much

        • +4

Tried this one and my fingers folded

          • @Zapwap: I still have mine, and it works, I think (not sure, I haven't tried starting it in about 20 years).

        • if you try hard enough

Those with tight jeans didn't even have to try…

"Wait, that's not what a tear should sound like."

  • +3

Didn't know they make a flip phone, wonder if it's any good. No headphone jack which is expected but would be good if it had a storage card slot.

    • +6

The Razr reinvention is the biggest consumer market release since the original one honestly. They put a lot of effort into it. if headphone jack and storage cards are a necessity for you the Sony Xperia and Asus Zenfone both offer these, at least last time I checked.. I think the Zenfone is the last of its iteration too due to dwindling sales.

      • +1

Does Sony sell the Xperia series domestically? I was under the impression they've withdrawn from the Australian market.

        • +2

          They have withdrawn from Australia

    • +1

It does have the Type-c port which I would guess you can plug your head phones into if needed.

  • +14

Cheapest flip phone available, good find.

Remember to go to officeworks to get it for only $474

  • +13

    hmmm… I don't need it but I want one

  • Dad's gf is finally upgrading from her old Samsung S7 and I'm wondering if the Android implementation is much the same and if this would be a decent upgrade over a Samsung A series?

    • +7

Motorola's implementation is very clean and near stock Android.

    • +2

Motorola looks similar to stock Android but the a series will have better battery life and updates until Android 18 and security updates until 2029.

    • +1

Motorola has a pretty decent OS. That said. A folding phone might be quite different as they have to accommodate for the form factor. Have a look around, there are a lot of decent cheap mid-range phones even outside the A-series.

    • Thanks all!

    • +9

Your dad likes to upgrade, but he may also soon find out that new gf implementation is much the same as wife implementation. (no offense intended!)

      • definitely don't try installing gf while wife is still present on the system ;-)

    • A friend of my wife's is going through the same thing, her S7 is on its last legs. She said she was finding it hard to find a phone that is the same size. She only really makes calls, reads FB and uses the camera, I reckon a Pixel 4a might be the best fit. But a fold would work as well

      • +12

There aren't many S7 users left, are you sure you guys are not talking about the same girl :)

        • +1

If we are, her husband is going to be pi55ed

      • What about Asus ZenFone 10

        • Good fit but it's a big step up from an older S7 to spend $1K

          • @branners: Yeh huge step up in price.
I guess justify it with 'girl math' (no offence to anyone) daily usage cost to holding on to the phone for 8-9years as with the S7 since release

  • +6

Are these any good to shave with? Still seems cheaper than buying a packet of Gillette refills.

  • This or Poco X6 Pro?

    • +11

answer the most important question first, do you want a folding phone or not?

        • answer the question do you want to fold your clothes or not?

      • maybe

Very nice drug dealing or second girlfriend phone

    • +16

My drug dealing second girlfriend will thank you.

  • Where can we find the catalogue online please? after the ultra flip one, just wondering if any deal on that

  • Chamaniw, do you know if any Samsung phones are on sale in this weeks catalogue? Thanks

  • +1

this price will be available at all retailers tomorrow

    • +2

Hope ow is late to update so we can price match

  • How long do you get until the screen breaks?

    • My Samsung one last for two years. The screen protector keep broken then the cracks on the middle of the screen. But before the screen is dead, there is something get into the hinge and the phone can only open in 135 degree mode.

    • +1

Moto rated the "teardrop" hinge for 400k cycles, but it basically started to fail at around 43k on stream (started to require extra load to close), with the screen failing around ~120k.

Problem with these numbers is that they basically lie between two extremes… (Machine testing under perfect conditions, and extended human torture)

Not to mention that a real killer in the field tends to be dust ingress into the hinge mechanism and displays randomly going splat outside the averages.

    • +1

I spent 2000$ on a Fold 3 and the inner screen lasted 1 year

  • -3

Li-Po 4200 mAh battery. too weak.

    • +4

      The $1.6K Galaxy Z Flip5 has a 3700 mAh battery

And with a 4nm Snapdragon 5G modem, this Razr will smash any MediaTek, Exynos and rebadged-Exynos "Tensor" modem

This Moto is a good deal

  • -3

    It shows 999 on JB.

    • Tomorrow

      • -4

Cool, It looks like a great deal. G84 doesn't support wifi6. That's a deal breaker for me.

        • +3

I tried, but I cannot for the life of me imagine why a lack of wifi6 would be a dealbreaker on a phone, can you elaborate why you need wifi6?

          • @doobey1231: I want the full wifi speed when I use it at home. It is a good choice for a backup phone but I will wait for the next-gen if Moto offers wifi6. Currently, my backup phone is an iPhone 15 pro, I am looking for a cheap phone that can support an SD card, and Wi-Fi6 at the same time. Moto is almost there.

            • +1

@MichaelAU: I totally understand, I just cant imagine why you would need wifi6, like you would be bottlenecked by a dozen other bits and pieces before wifi standards would come into play, that's where the curiosity comes from.

              • @doobey1231: I currently have Optus 5g home internet, wifi6 is necessary for me to make full use of the high-speed internet. I can easily reach 400-500mbps over wifi. If it is NBN, it is not necessary to have wifi6 right now because it can only reach around 100mps.

                • +1

@MichaelAU: What I am asking is why you need to make full use of the high speed internet. What are you doing on your phone specifically that requires 500mbps download rate, thats all, not a big deal, I am just a pretty heavy internet user and I work with IT quite often and cannot imagine a scenario where anything more than maybe 150mbps would be necessary.. Your NBN speeds also entirely depend on your connection type, not all NBN connections are made the same unfortunately.

                  • @doobey1231: I have a bit of OCD. It is my problem. XD

                    • @MichaelAU: My condolences, my partner has it too, it can be pretty debilitating.

The only reason I am questioning is because Wifi5 is already capable of almost 7gbps transfer speeds in theory, the real benefit of wifi6 over wifi5 is the amount of devices it can support at high speeds, not so much the base speeds themselves.

                  • @doobey1231: He's constantly running speedtest.net tests 🙄

  • Nice, tempting

  • tempting. Good screen, good efficient SoC. and it flips. Imagine how popular you'll be flipping it open and shut in office meetings.

  • How durable is that fold screen compare to Samsung?

    • Samsung has the top quality among all foldable phones.

    • +1

I folded my Galaxy S21and it hasn't worked since.

      • +1

Maybe you folded it wrongly. Next time try the other side 😂

this deal shows that SAMSUNG FLIP alternative is way overpriced

    • Agree, yes this is cheaper alternative right now, but still overprice
Samsung Z flip4 in on par with razr 40 ultra.
This razr 40 may be on par with flip3, that some of us get it for $599 at launch (3 years ago).

    • There's more to a phone than the fact it flips, the Flip 5 competes with the Razr 40 Ultra, not this phone.

That said, if the hardware and camera aren't really necessities for you then the Razr 40 makes a tonne of sense. Especially at this price.

    • Samsungs have been overpriced for ages now, following suit with apple. Paying for the brand these days, and us Aussies get the crappy Samsung made chips too for the pleasure.

  • this is how it should be done

    https://xkcd.com/1372/

  • Is the camera dog shit like on every Motorola phone?

    • Curious as well, camera quality and short battery life are my two questions on Motorola phones.

      • I have a Motorola g82 used it for the past two years, camera is the worst potato I've ever used. Battery is exceptional, we are talking minimum 1 day maximum 2 days.

    • Reviews I've read do point out cameras as one of the weak points so probably yes.

    • Like any mid range smartphone these days, if your photography consists of memories from events you'll be fine, but don't buy this phone with the intention of doing professional photography with. It seems the Cameras are the shortfall of any folding smartphone at the moment.

For those who would consider the Chinese owned Moto:
My Razr 20 flip screen died in 8 months and they refuse warranty because a dent on hinge…….

    • +2

To be fair, other manufacturers would probably do the same.

    • Why mention Chinese owned?

      • +3

        In case theres a war

      • +1

Because its only okay when companies outside of China use their cheap labour.

  • Was thinking of jumping on new iPhone se once released. This tempts me to stick with android

    • +1

Do not go to the dark side.

    • +1

Yes. Jumping on new iPhone might make it fold.

    • What do you know about the new se? Same rumours everyone is talking about or privileged info?

      • Budget iphone with usb c.

        • Very basic answer mate, it’s said it’ll have the size of the iPhone 14, no home button, notch and usb c.
Will still have only one camera at the back and the chip of the iPhone 14 or 15.
Anyway I don’t think it’ll be budget friendly anymore, maybe around $900/$1000

Is anyone buying one to flip for a profit on marketplace? Not sure it's worth the risk.
