ANZ Credit Card Min. Spend Calculation Dispute

Hi All,

Anyone had any experience in disputing the total spend amount to meet min. spend on ANZ Black Frequent Flyer card?

Background
Signed up for the card about 4 months ago, put through around 10k spend in the first three months to meet the 5k min spend for sign up bonus.
ANZ rep is say i don't meet min. spend as cumulative closing statement don't add up to 5k. However this is because I paydown my credit card debt every fortnightly as my salary come in so the monthly closing statement don't align with the monthly spend. For some reason, over the chat and phone, the reps failed to understand this.

Any suggestion on what to do from here?

Call again to get a different rep.

The rep is terrible in providing that advice.

They should be looking at this part on the statement:

Purchases, Cash Advances & Other Debits

To determine the purchases, not the closing statement.

    • Pretty sure it doesn't include council rates usually for e.g, and there are other exceptions

      • Yep I get that, but at a starting point the rep should not be only looking at the closing statement each month. Start with purchases, and then break it down by eligible vs non-eligible.

So while the rep is incorrect to say

ANZ rep is say i don't meet min. spend as cumulative closing statement don't add up to 5k.

It also does not mean that OP has met the $5k spend as there are other factors at play e.g. Bpay is notoriously known for not eligible for these spendings, same with DEFT payments

        • I'm agreeing with you. Closing Balance doesn't mean anything

The rep is wrong. Although not sure how they can be that wrong.

  • Did you make sure all your spending is eligible?
govt fees, council etc are excluded.

btw, one of the good things about credit card is you can hold your money in your account as much as possible.
Especially when interest rate is high

100% with this. Why pay your card off early. Theres no benefit in doing so, unless you plan to not pay the full amount off each month. It might not sound like much but if you pay your card early every month, rather than having that in a savings account, your missing out on potential interest being paid to you which will add up over time. If you spend a lot and pay it on time, the interest you could earn by not paying early might even cover the cost of the annual fee if your smart about it.

  • ANZ and credit card simply should not be in a same sentence. Their credit card team is helpless, the instore team is cueless.

  • I pay off my ANZ card daily and I still got the bonus points.

  • If you're sure that you've met the spend with "eligible purchases" and that the rep is a dimwit, then do anAFCA complaint

  • Certain purchase weren’t eligible. Oh dear.
