Need the PS5 Edge controller to be this price and I'd buy it instantly

  • +9

Reminder that the soft materials on my Elite 1 controller disintegrated after 2 years of normal usage. Also stick drift was a real thing too. Unsure if they fixed it in the Elite 2.

    • +5

Prob not, my elite 2 doesnt have stick drift but the right stick is not smooth movement all the way around.

And idk if I'm just unlucky but the shoulder button was a double press issue and isn't as tactile as the other shoulder button.

I'd send it it to get repaired but it;s the halo edition and I've seen horror stories of people getting a regular elite 2 back.

It's not game breaking for me as I normally just play fighting games, but it's annoying that there's an issue with it at all.

That being said, I still prefer them over the PS controllers

      • +2

Build quality is questionable - the sticks aren't as tight as my 8bitdo controllers.

My hands get a bit sweaty and find it's a bit hard to clean the controllers due to the grips.

        • +1

The sticks on the elite 2 are adjustable tension so you can make them stiffer or looser.

      • +1

I have the same issue with the right shoulder button. Never bothered to get it fixed. Should have though, would definitely be out of warranty now

    • +2

Same. Loved the controller, but the rubber on the back came off soon after warranty expired and has put me off these controllers for good. Now I just deal with stick drift on the regular Xbox series controller…

    • +3

Youre not the only one, both Gen1 and Gen2 seem to have horrible durability according to most owners. much less so than what youd expect for a controller that costs $200+.

    • I had drift with no1, no2 has been good for few years now, probably RB buttons are a bit sticky
I love the weight and feel of them but def not good quality build

    • My elite 2 never had those issues. But the right bumper stopped working and I got stick drift though

    • I have the 2, stick drift on right thumb stick and crunches when rolling along the bottom. The glue on the grips has become unstuck and is now weirdly longer than the spot it was in. I don't even understand how to fix that.

Drives me nuts when I can look at my gamecube controller I've had for 20 years and it still works perfectly and has seen 20x the play on them and these things barely last 2-3 years

      • Yeah, I don't get where the stick drift came from. I have Xbox 360 controllers which are super old and none of them have stick drift.

        • I had stick drift on plenty of my 360 controllers too.

Even my N64 controllers had stick drift.

          It's not anything recent.

    • Anyone have issues with the abxy buttons not registering and getting stuck?

I put a thin layer of tape on the edge my elite 2 buttons to align it better and resolve the issue.

    • I think you meant 2 months not 2 years. I broke the shoulder buttons on 3 before I gave up. I bought an Elite 2 and it was just as shit.

      Just use a standard controller.

    • All Microsoft controllers stink

  • damn that's a good price. but my white elite 2 core is still going strong, no complaints. and I prefer that white colorway. if this was white, I would grab another one as a spare.

  • Got one, Thanks OP!

  • -6

I heard the latency on these are not as good as the PS5 edge even on PC right? (from pro Apex players) Shame…

    • +1

mate - what are you on about

    • +1

      (from pro Apex players)

They use controllers??? What are you smoking?

      • +1

Unless it has changed recently, yes, most pro players are on controller.

        • Thank you. Teams are a mix from triple MnK to 2/1 MnK 2/1 roller, to triple roller. How is this news??

      • What are you smoking?
        Liquipedia

There's something called Google even if you're ignorant :)

    • +1

yeah this is garbage for anything you need to use the stick for, i think its because of the adjustable tension and the swappable sticks. feels like the steering wheel on a 20years old car.

    • Arguably best player in Apex history btw

For MnK players imagine playing on 125Hz vs 1000Hz, what's so hard to believe about this??

  • I have a serious question. I bought this off second hand from someone on Fb marketplace, and it really stinks.. like very heavy sweat smell. I have tried using dettol disinfect wipes and go around it for at least 2-3 times, but after it dries the stinky smell is still on the controller's rubber grips. Anyone can give any advice on how to eliminate the smell?

    • +1

sit it in activated charcoal? baking soda or dyer sheets for a while /?

    • Nothing gets rid of cheeto fingers… maybe vinegar?

    • +1

I had the same issue with the v1 elite controller, the only thing that worked for me was to use an old toothbrush with water to get into the grooves of the rubber.

In saying that, this should not be an issue on a $200+ controller.

    • It needs to be opened and deep cleaned in a alcohol solution. Any rubber piece needs a soap wash cause the alcohol can eat into it.

If the rubber pads are also the cause of the smell and it wont go after the deep clean, just replace them while the controller is open.

    • I'm sorry but this is effing hilarious. What kinda crappy material are they using to make these "elite" controllers?

      • The grip is actually very comfortable, its probably the best part for me.

        • I just noticed the rubber grips on my controller, the edges are coming apart. Anyone experienced this? Is superglue recommended

          • +2

@Overcomerak: Get the serial number off the back of the controller
            Goto https://account.microsoft.com/devices
            Register Controller
If you're lucky it's still under a 2 year warranty.
            Lodge for repair
TNT Courier Pick up next business day
Have a refurbished/brand new one delivered a few days later

            • @MBix: Thank you. Unfortunately it is out of warranty.

            • +1

@MBix: I just registered my new Elite 2 Controller

              Incorrect warranty details -

              Microsoft Limited Warranty
              1 years
              In warranty
              Ends on 7/16/2024

Case registered with Xbox support & waiting for response …

              • @WhyMe20: They can sometimes take awhile but each time I've had that issue they've extended it out to the correct warranty date so shouldn't be an issue

                • +1

                  @MBix: Case closed ;-)

                  Microsoft Limited Warranty
                  2 years
                  In warranty
                  Ends on 5/4/2026 (4th May'26)

  • +6

Just a heads up they don't last. I have looked after mine and it is falling apart. I have a bit of stick drift and the rubber grips are coming off (and are non replaceable).
I got it for free ages ago from Telstra Plus but I wouldnt buy another one - I now prefer the standard Series X controller.

    • true but i found the method is to get a controller that has a long warranty, bought a razer wolverine and got it replaced 2 times within a year, btw wolverine controller is ass its good when its working but it lasts 6 months max, and regular xbox controller are even worse, they increased the warranty on those now though so not that bad but idk how the warranty claim works on ebay for these though as they should have a 2 year warranty

      • +1

I've not had any regular Xbox controllers age as poorly as the elite controller and they are "premium"

        • idk my origonal xbox one s controller from like 5 years ago worked for a long time and then it broke and i got the new xbox controller and its wireless broke in 4 months mabey got unlucky

    • Mine is the same, it sucks because i find it way too hard to go back to controllers without back buttons now. So ordinary controllers don't cut it.

      • Thankfully I didn't really click with the back buttons

  • Are these hall effect

    • +4

The triggers, yes, but not the sticks.

  • +7

Tempted, but QC issues are turning me off, even at this price.

    • Warranty is also terrible, you'll be waiting 3 weeks to get another controller which will probably have an issue after a month

  • +2

Even at a discount, these don't seem like good value as they don't have hall effect sticks (imagine spending $150+ and still getting stick drift lol?) or gyro support, which the Dualsense, Switch Pro controller, Steam controller, etc all have.

If I were buying an Xbox-style controller today I would get the 8BitDo Ultimate. It's got hall effect sticks, gyro, 2.4ghz + Bluetooth support, remap-able rear buttons, a charging dock and is still almost half the price of the elite controller in this deal.

    • +1

I don't think the 8bitDo Ult works with Xbox however. You need the one here: https://www.8bitdo.com/ultimate-3-mode-controller-xbox/, and that one loses compatibility with Switch and iOS.

Pain in the bum but you have to make this abundantly clear to people looking at buying.

      • +3

That one is wired for xbox too

        • Thanks - good point! I missed that.

Sucks that MS has it's proprietary connection.

        • -1

Latency is great on these wired controllers, it's hard to go back to Bluetooth after using one of these

          • @Bretttick: Meh. I don't play anything competetive that the .01 second better latency matters in. Prefer the convenience of no cords

            • -1

@ONEMariachi: It's not .01 secs. You obviously don't know because your either ignorant or never used one before.

Either way ms controllers stink, I've sent mine back for warranty 4 times never again

              • -1

@Bretttick: My bad. It is 0.004 second difference. 8ms latency for bluetooth vs 4ms latency for wired
You’d have to be playing at 240 frames to notice that difference.(4.2ms latency)

And as I said. I don’t play anything competitive. It doesn’t matter at all to me. I also guarantee to you. You don’t notice the difference either because anything playing at 240 frames, you sure as shit ain’t using a controller for. It’s not 2005 anymore champ. Join us in 2024.

                • -1

@ONEMariachi: I do notice the difference because I've used both. And I don't play competitive but guess you know it all 🤦

                  • -1

                    @Bretttick: 8ms latency on a bluetooth controller.
120 fps, which is max on conosles. That is 8.3ms latency. So no you don't notice the difference. You're lying to yourself.

      • Ah you're correct, my apologies. I had assumed that the 2.4ghz dongle wouldn't have been a problem with the xbox. That's a shame. Apparently you can get an adapter to make it work but that might be a hassle for some

    • -1

unfortunately for us some these are just the best controllers, I have ps5 one but don't get the same satisfaction as when playing with elites

  • +6

Microsoft are pretty good and fixing them up if you have issues, mine had the bumper problem eventually, came back good as new with replaced grips as a bonus.
The paddles are so good, I could never use anything without them.

    • only reason I am wanting to buy this is because of the paddles, I play a lot of games on PC with mods that require keyboard only key binds and I saw you can map the paddles to keyboard presses in the accessories app. Going to see if its still in stock at 6pm to stack with shopback.

      • +2

I'd recommend the 8bitdo's ulitmate above instead for a sturdier (hall effect) design with paddles, and a dock too which is super handy

        • I agree there are alot of controllers on the market that are better than what the big guys are pumping out, I have the GameSir T4 Cyclone Pro and love it. Although, it seems that the xbox elite controller is the only controller where the back paddles are programmable with keyboard keys as they are recognised separately. Even if you use 8bitdo's ultimate software you can only map the back paddles to other controllers keys. (though my need is pretty niche)

          • @Opious: I go through a lot of controllers and recently nabbed the Vader 3 Pro. Highly recommend it and it allows you to bind any kb keys to any buttons it offers. The polling rate and latency is respectable too.

  • +2

Downvoting for the QC issues, had 4 of these all with an A/Y button that doesn’t activate on all presses

    • I'll second this. I bought one and the RB button died within four hours. Staff at JB weren't surprised that it died, but were surprised it failed so soon ("It normally takes six months before these come back").

      Real mixed bag on reliability.

    • I have one these that went through about 4 warranty claims. QC issues are certainly a thing, although the warranty process is pretty easy. I'm out of warranty now but the current one hasn't had any issues.

    • +1

QC is horrible. I went through 8 elite 2 controllers with different issues… But… If you can get one that actually works… It's a great controller.

      • Same here. Either this one or the core does not have good build. Went for a few claims about the bumper and buttons.

    • Yeah had the same issue on my first and got a refund instead after reading many others were having similar issues. This is a very good price, but yeah I'm not willing to take the risk and have to go through the hassle of returning etc

  • +2

Got mine Xmas 2019. Still going strong, no stick drift, rubber still intact.
Maybe one of the lucky ones.

    Would recommend at this price.

    • Play harder

    • +1

Sounds like someone spoiled themselves for a certain modern warfare release… ;)

(i'm guilty of the exact same thing! lol)

Had mine replaced 3 times and the gave up after that. Dealing with dodgy RB and just now got some drift starting to show itself on the right stick).

  • It does has QC Issues, but with this price and 2 year's warranty I would say a no-brainer deal.

  • -2

Note these do not have gyro aim, I never used mine since I discovered gyro aim as I can never go back to playing without it.

    • Whats Gyro aim? You mean like on the PS4/PS5 controllers?

      • Like on just about every other modern controller - PS5, Switch, Steam Deck, all smartphones…

      • Tilt sensor

  • Great controllers but let down by a few issues. Mine developed stick drift on the right stick after a number of months. Hoping an elite 3 with hall sensor sticks is on the cards. Occasional issues with shoulder buttons not always working too.

  • Love these controllers. Personally these are my favourite controllers and the material and feel is great although QC is questionable. My first one had the RB button not registering and I wasn't able to fix it myself so sold it off for cheap notifying the buyer of the problem.

I bought a second one (where you customise your colours) but if there are any issues, I won't be buying another.

  • These are a good controller to play games with however they do not last. The grips fall apart and the sticks get serious drift. Not worth buying.

  • Love these but mine has just given up the ghost. The rubber is falling off and the right thumbstick has stopped working.

I suppose I'd bet get another one.

  • Ripper deal OP! I already bought one for full RRP last year. Got one for my mate, looks like my $10 Ebay Plus membership is coming in handy :)

  • Was keen to get one at this price but after reading on google and reddit there are a lot of people saying stay away

They seem to break very easy compared to the standard controllers

  • +1

Love mine but the joystick is no longer smooth, I have had mine for idk, 2y plus
RB has to be pressed like it owns me money
I tried to fix it, it improve but only temporarily.
I play shooting every freaking day so that could be it.

I guess I will pray for an Elite 3 version to be released.

  • +1

Bought one of these a while back and doesn't last! First was stick drift and then the LB button stopped working 50% of the time but outside warranty.

Have since gone for an 8bitdo ultimate and it's much better value for money.

  • Be warned: the LB and RB buttons fail on these. I've had them become problematic on mine.

  • +1

Had every Xbox since the 360, never once had stick drift. Bought this - stick drift.

  • Have had mine since late 2019 too.
Love it. Fair to say it copped a LOT of use during Covid
Initially one button was a bit sticky but it went away with minimal use, about a week.
The rubber has only now just started peeling away.
FWIW I prefer the feel of the standard Xbox controller but 100% need the trigger stops and paddles.
If I had plus I’d be buying at this price
