Unreal - fair enough if they had good content smh

    • -8

Price rise appears to be targeted.

      My plan price is unchanged.

    • -7

      good content smh

Wow. Does it really come with the good content subscription called Sydney Morning Herald?

    • +11

Aparently to make up for subscription cancellations due to cost of living pressures.

If thats the case they should DROP prices instead.

Time to tell Netflix where to go.

      • +1

I heard someone else say it was because the Australian government have forced Netflix to make Australian content - that no one is watching - so they have upped the price for that Australian content.

        • +3

          People watch Australian content.
All over the world there is a certain blue heeler that is a stalking you wherever you go. Somewhere in a village in Mongolia, there is some little shit ready to go 'Naaah'

But that's on iView here, so Disney doesn't get to stream it and count it to their quota numbers - which aren't in force yet.
Part of the proposal also includes anti-siphoning provisions (similar to what exists currently for FTA vis-a-vis Foxtel), basically so streamers can't keep certain events of "national importance" behind a paywall.

        • -3

you know what, i wouldnt mind another chris lilley mockumentary series

        • world watch Australian content kath and kim is just one of many

      • +4

While cost of living pressures are real, I personally cancelled because they kept raising the prices and segmenting their own user base. Why am I forced to pay for a family to gain access to full 4K? The quality of their full streams has dropped substantially since Covid too, the excuse of Covid causing numbers to explode has now well and truly played out and to top it off, they have started to crack down on me sharing with my family (the only thing making a family plan worthwhile in my opinion ) I just do not consider it a good value proposition anymore and don’t miss the service at all.

    • +2

Simple, don't watch it, switch over to cheaper ones like Amazon Prime, only $6.58/month if you buy annually. I stopped watching Netflix ever since they cancelled my plan, their loss as I get what I want for cheaper and they get nothing now.

Netflix came in to save us from ad-riddled cable TV. The irony.

      Stremio changed my life forever

      • +23

For me, it’s Plex, an eye patch, a hook for a hand and a private cabin booth on a galleon full of riches.

        • +2

Yep Plex is amazing. Wish id jumped on it earlier.

          • +7

@hazzad: Tried jellyfin? It's a really good plex alternative

        • +3

NAS & Plex for 4K Remuxes, Stremio for stuff I don't wanna keep

      • +7

I used Stremio for 3 months last year, got 4 seasons into The Americans, then switched to the many free adware-ridden streaming sites for the last 6 months.
In that time I've progressed one more frustrating season.

Last week I paid $25 for another 6 months of Stremio. Why did I ever stop, this is great.
Interface could be better though. Some reskinning etc could go a long way

        • Stremio is free though?

          • +9

@ldd-mn: they likely mean RD for the back-end Stremio source

          • @ldd-mn: You pair it with Real-debrid so you don't need to worry about VPN. Yes I know there are other providers but Real-Debrid is the one you want.

      • +1

I ended up getting Offcloud/Stremio/Torrentio a few months ago.

I can only stream cached content and can't stream anything higher quality than 720p without continuous buffering even though I have 250mbps internet

        • +5

this is thanks to Offcloud, if you use real-debrid, you can easily stream 4k HDR content without any issues.

        • Get real debrid bro, won’t regret.
Did fallout in 4k no problem even on 5G.

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I'm jealous of your 5G/Fiber connection… and here I am trying to make-do with a 3G connection.

            • +1

@Kangal: Haha bro, you are about to have no connection if you are still rely on 3G only! What are you doing?!

        • +3

To repeat what others have said, offcloud sucks. I wasted money on that junk and it was a struggle to get it even a little bit working.
Went back to RD, it's night and day

      • Installed that on my tv but it seems to be just a browser that then takes you to other streaming apps. I need to look into what else needs to be done..

        • Torrentio at a minimum, ideally also use real debrid

      • Been thinking about this but some movies I want to see in best quality ie remux.
I was told that remux quality is available using Stremio. Is that correct? If so, is it only for selected movies?

I wonder even if it's marked as remux, would the quality still suffer as at the end of the day it's still "streaming" and suffer with compression etc..?

    • +4

Shhhh it's a forgotten skill. We need some to pay for it or they will stop making good content.

Narcos and dark are great shows. Most shows are missable though

        • +1

There are loads of great shows on Netflix, some really good fun movies too. I do think it was better when it was only Netflix and they just showed content of other studios though. That change to making its own content is what landed us in the full circle back to cable.

      • You mean we shouldn't keep talking about Ublock Origin and SponsorBlock?

        • +1

Well, maybe not. Look at Google's animosity towards ad blockers for Youtube. Once there's enough users that it starts hurting the bottom line it becomes a problem.

          • @bamzero: The thing with the ads is I didn't mind when it was once in a while, but unskipable ads before and after every vid, plus in the middle of a 10min vid, yea no thanks, if I didn't have ad block I wouldn't watch YT at all. Which is why I will likely move to firefox or something else when they implement the new system in chrome that breaks ad blockers

            • @xazark: If you ever go down the Streamio/RealDabrid route, try SmartTube which is YT but free from all adverts, even skips the sponsor segments.

        • I think the average ozbargainite would know already, it's in their nature.

    • +5

Stremio and Real Debrid all the way!
I am a noob with this stuff but even i was able to install this by myself. …approx 16bucks for 3 months and everything is watchable!

      • Isn't Stremio free?

        • +5

          Real Debrid isn't

          • @smalltime0: Torrentio is

            • +2

@ldd-mn: Yeah but Torrentio without Real Debrid isn't much impressive unless you always watch content that has lots of sources

              • @nahkk: I guess I'm just lucky then, haven't ran into an issue yet

              • @nahkk: which plan of Real Debrid are you all using? What's Fidelity Points for?

                • +2

@wjojff: 1000 fidelity points bring 30 premium days.

    • P.s Tor browser recommended

$26?! Thank god for Netflix thinking I reside overseas…

    • That's still a thing?

      • +1

        Why not?

        • Is there a particular method that allowed you to not get caught up with everyone else's account cancellations?

          • +1

            @cooni: Just Turkey gift cards.

Originally had an account signed up via credit card, which failed once the credit card expired, so created a new account purely using Turkey GC's, has been fine since. A couple of hiccups a couple of months ago, but managed to get it to work via mobile from memory

        • Most of us that were using cheaper regions had our subs cancelled a while back…

      • I can confirm, it's still working. However I got a relative overseas to create my Netflix account and use their credit card for monthly payment which I pay them every month. No need of VPN for watching content.

    • yeah im still using Turkish giftcards to top up my netflix balance. but soon will cancel since there isn't enough good content

  • with the 4K plan now costing an extra $3 a month ($36 per year)
    4K plan: Previously $22.99, Now $25.99

    Typo? $26 a month? $36 a month?

    • +1

      extra $36

    • Soon it will be that and more.

Need to find a corrupt Foxtel installer to give us free Foxtel hookup for $200. Would pay for itself in just a few months compared to Netflix.

    • +9

Jerry's gonna be a Cable Boy. a Cable Boy, a Cable Boy.

    • I’m enjoying free Foxtel. Probably watch it the most out of all the streaming services

    • +2

I think nowadays you just need to know someone who has Foxtel and pay the $10 a month for multiroom (if they don't have it).

Connect up an IQ box via internet and away you go at up to 4k quality.

      • access to 2nd screen via app is $15, or $25 monthly if you want full IQ box setup.

Been thinking of 2nd option and splitting the bill , but with foxtel soon to be fully online i’m guessing IP location rules might be coming.

      • Obviously not as good quality, but if they are happy using Foxtel Now you don't even need multiroom. Can login with 5 devices.

Feel like Netflix stock price going from $170 in mid 2022 to $610 today is telling in how far in excess of everyone's expectations their price increases have been, over the past 2 years. Hard to see how Netflix today is worth the equivalent of nearly 4 Netflix's in 2022 otherwise.

    • +1

You say that, but think to a time just before the Season 8 of Game of Thrones dropped. That was peak Netflix. It's been a steady decline in quantity and quality since then. And there's been a rise in competition from Disney+, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and even Paramount is becoming legitimate.

Instead of multiple cable connection channels, they're now moving to multiple streaming services. More things change, more they stay the same.

  • +7

    Time to cancel….

  • +10

Surprise surprise, a business wants to make more money.

The price of everything including electricity has gone up; I won't be surprised if their running costs have gone up too.

No one is forcing their customers to subscribe. If they're not happy with the prices they should just stop using the service.

The only way big companies like that will change is if their customers actually end their subscriptions in protest (and not resubscribe in 2 months).

          • @Bruceflix: Try India. I'm using it for 11 bucks a month for top tier plan.

            • +3

@Jaydip: To be honest, they did me a favour by cancelling it. Never watched it anyway.

              • +1

@Bruceflix: I was really just watching old Seinfeld reruns… which thanks to someone here (forgot who) let me know there is actually a 24-7 channel on the channel 9 app that just does random Seinfeld reruns

            • @Jaydip: India hasnt been cancelled?

            • @Jaydip: Local credit card? Which one?

      • Erdogan has watched oz Parliament!

      • Nah was getting too expensive in Turkey now and after the purge, I cut the Netflix umbilical cord and nor more stupid begging emails from them.

Ho, Ho, Ho and a bottle of rum……

  • Does anyone know how these increases impact you when you're Netflix is included in your telco plan. Will optus, in my case, cover the increase (8 months into their 3year 5G Entertainer) or will they likely hit me with the gap as an additional fee.

    • +2

I believe the telco and Netflix have a deal so i wouldnt expect any price increases.

This week my profile was blocked as I was sharing it with my mum who lives in a different house. There is no more option which says "I am travelling" and despite logging in my profile at the household IP, it doesnt work anymore like it used to. So Netflix is cracking down hard. It has been a good ride for a couple of years. But still not going to subscribe to it.

    • +1

You need to watch something on Netflix on your device on her wifi. That’s the theory at least.

      What’s IP? You tried already?
