Doesn’t work with Coles gc :(

    • Via PayPal

      • Tried that too. Same declined message.

        • +3

I got the same decline message too twice on the Giftz checkout page when trying to use a Coles Mastercard gift card via PayPal.

I also tried once via PayPal using a Westpac credit card (by accident), but that also declined on the Giftz checkout page. My credit card transaction shows both a pending PayPal charge and a pending PayPal credit.

If the card issuer is declining a PayPal charge, it should have declined on the PayPal screen, not the Giftz webpage. I wonder whether there is an issue with PayPal on the Giftz website today…

          • @WookieMonster: Giftz historically have always had random issues with Paypal on their site. You can try this workaround I've previously mentioned https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15089727/redir

            • +2

@wangasm: it worked last run but this time NOT.

if paying by paypal directly, it would show "check balance" at paypal page as previous issue.
then used last method to go back cart, passed paypal but got:

transaction declined, pls contact bank or use another card

same on both Vanilla VISA & Coles MC.

              • +2

@test8888: same, received paypal emails saying 'you authorised a payment to Blackhawk.', but got declined on the giftz side. Waste of time.

  • Can it be used to make payments to gov/council ?

    • Works for my council

      • did you pay online or at auspost?

        • Online on the council website.

  • Can you buy with amex?

  • Can this be used for State revenue office, or Deft, or ATO?

Apple itunes card is recommended for these types of debt

    • +1

Deft yes. 0.4% for my strata

      • +1

How did you make it work for DEFT? I couldn’t pay my strata.

        • I haven't used this particular Activ card yet but the ones from coles.

Just used it on their website.

          • @abs898: Ok. I tried this card. Didn’t work.

  • There's a 3% cashback on this card with MyAmexShop so thats a $22.50 cashback + Amex points on a $750 card but you can't use the code 'HAPPY'. Isn't 3% cashback better than using the code or am I missing something?

    • +2

      Ineligible for cashback.

      • thank you. thought that's too good to be true lol

        • Would the cashback apply to the category choice grocery card though?

          • +1

@paultiffen: I would say no (at least officially speaking), because:

            • Giftz mentions prepaid Visa & Mastercard eGift cards as an exclusion. Category Choice gift cards are functionally re-branded Activ Visa prepaid gift cards that only work at specific Merchant Category Codes. (Yes, I have purchased a couple for myself already, and the activation process is identical to any other Activ Visa eGift Card or 7-Eleven digital gift card.)

            • Earlier this year, a Giftz store rep said the source of truth for cashback exclusions for Giftz' partners is on the Giftz Terms of Sale. Clause 2.4 specifically mentions Category Choice eGift Cards as an exclusion.

            • +1

              @WookieMonster:

              • Earlier this year, a Giftz store rep said the source of truth for cashback exclusions for Giftz' partners is on the Giftz Terms of Sale. Clause 2.4 specifically mentions Category Choice eGift Cards as an exclusion.

For all referring companies, individuals, websites and apps that offer programs such as credits/cashback/coupons and any other discounts on Gift Cards, the following Gift Card products are excluded from the such programs: Category Choice eGift Card range, Officeworks eGift Card, Giftz eGift Card, All Activ Visa variations, Mobile Pay digital Mastercard, Spending Money Mastercard, Pocket Money Mastercard, 7-Eleven, Appliances Online, David Jones, Bunnings, Big W, BWS, EG Fuel Card, Dan Murphy's, Woolworths Supermarket, Everyday WISH, Webjet, H&M, Harvey Norman, Flight Centre, and Total Tools. This list is subject to change from time to time without notice.

so what's actually left and not excluded? :)

            • @WookieMonster: Interesting to note that Topcashback currently have $2 cashback on all Activ Visa cards, despite Activ Visa being in that exclusion list.

They do say coupon codes are excluded from cashback but I have previously gotten cashback before from TopCB/Giftz on some coupon codes. Wondering if this will work here.

              • @wangasm:

Interesting to note that Topcashback currently have $2 cashback on all Activ Visa cards

Yeah, I know. I suspect the $2 cashback thingy is either something TopCashback AU has specifically negotiated with Giftz, or TopCashback AU is paying for it out of their own pocket.

They do say coupon codes are excluded from cashback but I have previously gotten cashback before from TopCB/Giftz on some coupon codes. Wondering if this will work here.

It is always worth a shot, as long as you do not mind missing out on the $2 cashback if you get declined this time.

            • @WookieMonster: Wookie what’s your guess about when the next coles mastercard sale will be ( either at Coles or giftcards.com.au)

              • @Ozpe1903: I have given up on guessing when the next deal will happen, because I cannot decipher whether Coles or InComm actually like running 10% off deals on Coles Mastercard gift cards.

If I had to guess, I think it would make sense to run one either this month or next month to help boost Coles' sales for this financial year.

      • Not necessarily with MyAmexShop, these guys confirm and pay your cashback in days compared to the typical 2-3 months with cr/sb, I doubt they care to check.

  • Can I use this to buy a gift card at Woolies/Coles?

    • Why don't you directly by that with your credit card as there is no benefit here?

Unless you need to increase your spend for CC or something

My only use case for these is to pay strata and council rates at a lower transaction cost.

      • Yep, I need to increase my spend for CC.

        • I have used these via PayPal to buy woolies GC at 4%

          • @abs898: So these can’t be used instore to buy gift cards?

            • @Slappie: Activ Visa can be used to buy gift cards in store at Coles (can't remember if WW ended up blocking these) I use the ShopBack Supermarket Activ Visa at 2.25% cashback to buy gift cards whenever Coles has some kind of %/FB points promo going on.

              • @wavesgreen: Apologies for the questions, so can I use this to purchase the Shopback Supermarket Activ Visa?

                • @Slappie: No. EDIT - Or rather I should say, I don't know but I don't think so.

  • -6

What's the point? There's no discount.

    • -5

Yep. Remember when deals meant you got more value than the dollars you paid? Why is this even on the front page?

  • +1

ELI5 about these kind of cards please.

  • +3

Warning this does NOT work for ATO payments. It'll come up with "error Transaction declined". Lucky I bought a small amount to try first

    • +2

      Thanks, you saved me.

  • Good for Amex spending requirement if you just got a new card for bonus points.

  • Can we use these for sniip payments?

    • +2

Yes you can. It is actually a great hack to use these on Sniip since they attract lower fees (0.85%) compared to credit cards. Using credit cards to purchase these prepaid cards will have no fee and still earn full points.

      • +1

Tried to add to sniip and now it wants my drivers licence and says it will take one business day to verify.

      • How many transactions have you done with Sniip? Did any reject or hang?

        • +1

I have done lots with no issues. My record is 27 cards for one bill. But there is some things to keep in mind

          • You can only add up to 10 new cards to Sniip per day. But can use Google Pay to get around this limit (Unlimited)
          • It's rare but some BPAY billers require full payment in a single transaction (No split payments). Vicroads is an example of one
          • Some BPAY billers disable the use of some/all card types and Sniip enforces this. But can also use Google Pay to get around it
          • Some BPAY billers are not supported at all by Sniip. Some abusable examples like financial institutions and gambling. No way around this.

when I try to buy 3 x $750 and enter the code, it still only gives me $4.95 off in total rather than for each card.

    • Max is 750 in one transaction. Do it seperate the other two times

    • Code only applies per order not per card.

First line of the deal post.

  • Can these be used for VicRoads rego payment?

  • Any idea when this deal/code will expire?

Anyone knows how soon the funds will be back after transaction declined by Giftz? I tried using PayPal and Apple Pay and both got declined and blocked the amounts on the card.
