Aldi get 250L chest freezers in at $249-299 and they’re fantastic

    • How do you transport them from shop to home

      • Hyundai i30 with flat folding rear seats

Once in a Suzuki Swift, which was interesting aha

        • I wonder if one of those maxi taxis would be able to do it

          • @AlienC: Physically, yes

However I’m 99% certain they don’t allow “large items” and “furniture”
            Could always call and ask

  • Hisense HRCF199 is showing $499 for me atm, unless you were looking at TGGC?

      • @Karansingh D’oh - thanks!
Trying to decide whether to keep my 17 year old Westinghouse 422l upright Fridge/Freezer as well as my 3 year old Westinghouse 690l Side by Side Fridge/Freezer. I want extra freezer space but the additional fridge space gets used for drink storage. I wouldn’t mind the extra freezer space but it’s switchable Fridge or Freezer, not both from what I read or at least that’s how I understood it. Still not a bad price,
I don’t think it says frost free, so I assume that is what the drain is for.

@linkindan As for ALDI models, there may be nothing inherently wrong with them but how long do you have to wait before they have them as a Special Item purchase?

If ALDI had the opportunity to click and collect items after their Special Items sales, they would sell a bunch more because I bet they just sit in the warehouse until the next sale or they buy them on consignment and ship back the ones they don’t sell. AFAIK the items not sold in many stores just get discounted and discounted until they sell.

ALDI may have some decent products from time to time, but I can go to TGG and buy this Hisense tomorrow and not have to fight pensioners and bargain hunters at 8:30am.

        • I think the special buys are used a means to get people into the stores and buy regular groceries. I don't think selling special buys are the ends itself.

  • I have the 300L version and it's great

  • What’s the normal price?

    • 499 it looks to be

  • yeah id rather get this - temperature at 0 degrees for up to 135 hours after powering off.

    • Independently tested?

      • thats what google is for…..

  • Got this unit for I think around $295 last year. Will recommend. Quiet - does the job and can be converted to a Fridge if required.

For the real ozbargainer .. here's the Aus energy rating website:

    https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/FridgeDetail.aspx

Basically there is a fairly large difference in running costs of fridges and freezers. You might think "ooh it's $100 cheaper what a bargain" only to find out that the running cost over its lifetime is $400 more. For example, for 200L chest freezers, 10 year running costs are:
    Kogan KAMN198CHF*: $1396.89,
    HISENSE HRCF199 (this one): $1232.55,
    HELLER HCFH200: $1084.64,
    HISENSE HRCF201: $854.57

So yeah, even with a different model of the same brand it can be almost $400 less running costs and the difference between the Kogan and HRCF201 is $550. Sometimes the real bargain is found in total cost of ownership is all I'm saying.

    • Thanks for the detailed explainer NNOP.

I don't know enough about the HRFC199 v 201 models, and can't seem to tell based of the spec sheets but found it interesting that the 5.5 star energy rated 201 had a lower rrp of $499 whereas the 3.5 star rated 199 (this one) had a higher rrp of $599 on hisense's website. Wonder if that's a misprint.

      • I'm guessing, like so many products on ozbargain, the 'regular' price is nonsense and jacked so retailers can sell it at $339 or whatever and say "ooh look .. 45% off rrp!".

    • Any idea what the most economical 300L chest freezer might be right now? Doesn't have to be a hybrid just looking for extra freezer storage atm

      • All I can say is go to the same govt website.

For 300 litres the most efficient and only 5.5 star chest freezer is also a Hisense, hrcf301. Don't seem easy to find though. CHIQ also have 5 star ones. The 4 star ones are $250-350 more for 10 year running costs and the 2.5 star ones are around $800 more running costs.
