Nespresso Compatible Machine That's Not De'Longhi

My De'Longhi Citiz has been leaking into the capsule catch can so need a replacement machine.

No amount of cleaning the pressure plate has helped.

Having previously had an exgf's Citiz repaired for the same leak a couple years ago I'm thinking maybe try a different brand.

Got a shitload of pods so stuck with Nespresso.

Based on current prices, looking for sub $130 deals.

Thank you.

  • Breville Creatista Plus
    Breville Essenza Mini
    Lattissima One
    Latissima Touch
    Breville Creatista Uno

  • If you're inclined to upgrade the Breville Creatista models per @jv offer adjustable shot volume, milk temperature and milk froth level

  • Thank you. Will check them out.

  • I’ve had a Breville Creatista Plus for 5 years now. Never missed a beat and never been serviced professionally either.

I use regular tap water. After I pull a shot I will release the capsule then run a blank shot of water to clean out the nozzle, then I’ll put in some tap water in the milk jug use the steam want on it as if it were milk to clean that too.

When pulling the water shot it will start off brown and dirty then by the end comes out nice and clear so whilst it’s not written in any manual I do believe it does a good job preventing buildup.

Then I just do a 3-6 monthly descale.

Second the Creatista plus. Definitely more than $130 retail, but you can get them off marketplace for $200-500. If you get one that's in decent shape I'd expect it to last longer than a low budget machine, and with more features.

We use the urban brew pods, they specifically suggest the cleaning regime above.

      • Good to know something can verify my cleaning process as probably doing some benefit.

        cheers :)

        • i have the dDe'Longhi Citiz and have always done the drop the capsule, run a couple of blank shots through after making a coffee method, and it is as good as new, must be getting near 10 years old now

    • Sounds like what I do with my De'Longhi Nespresso Lattissima EN 520 except I keep my milk in the milk frother and use the steam function to clean it.

10+ years old and descale every year.

  • I am nearly in the same position. My Nespresso essenza mini has started leaking into the capsule catch too after only a couple of years. Only 1 pod per day too, disappointing as a Nespresso U I had before lasted 10 years before the pressure plate snapped. If you want cheap and cheerful and can wait, I would go for this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760270. Free Nespresso compatible machine with purchase of $120 of pods.

As for myself, I only have about 120 pods left, so I will just use them up and get a mid range espresso machine or a aeropress.

    • lol I did actually go this deal but only for the pods. I sold the machine on Marketplace.

      • Good news for me, managed to get Nespresso to replace my Essenza Mini under warranty even though it's 1 month out of warranty. Had to quote the ACL a few times but eventually the agent relented. Seeing as these machines don't seem to really last now, I think I will keep an eye out for a entry level espresso machine like the DeLonghi Dedica https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/825829.

        • I ended up grabbing a new Essenza. Got a $50 gift card with it.

          • @scottb721: Maybe you should use that $50 gift card to buy a Dedica haha.

  • Get yourself a mid range machine and clean the machine after use e.g. run a cycle without a pod so the machine doesn't build up coffee scale/particles.

    I'm still using a my De'Longhi Lattissima EN520 from 2013.

Pretty certain I found the deal on OZB - Amazon Italy. Anyone else using still using their Lattissima EN520 from the same deal?

Works out to under $30 a year.

I've used other cheaper machines (including other brands) at friend's houses and also tried cheaper/compatible pods but am happier with my machine (with built in milk frother) and the genuine Nespresso pods. For the say, 2 pods a day we use, I think it's worth the extra 20-30 cents a pod.

I also had the leak about 2 years ago. I replaced the Infuser Piston Brewing Unit from eBay and all good.

    • Thanks. Will see what I can find.

  • I think it is spring fatigue against the oring.

There is a solution out there somewhere, I believe they cut the top ring lip off a pod and place it inside. So now the pod has an extra few mm of pressure against the seal.

Outside that, local e-cycling bins. Normally full of fully working pod machines.

  • I have a machine that's lasted about 15 years or so and is starting to play up. I have no need for milk, what's a good unit that does coffee only? Original pods one, I still have a ton of pods left over.
