  • Problem is most of the security stuff needs power obviously, so switch off the mains and no security. Can't see a normal ups running multiple devices across a house and pc for more than a few minutes.

    • I'm not sure what you mean there. They are clearing out their old alarm systems, so a lot of those parts are massively discounted. These parts won't work by themselves though, you need to have the older wireless GSM alarm system (full control panel) to go with it.

I do have one of those, so I picked up some more wireless sensors for it. Most of the sensors come with lithium batteries which last for years without needing to be replaced.

The main alarm console comes with a plug pack, but also has an inbuilt rechargeable battery so it'll stay powered on for a few hours after a power-outage. You could always hook it up a normal UPS if you wanted though.

The front "screamer/strobe" comes with a plug pack too, and also an internal rechargeable battery, so it too will last a few hours in a power-out :)

EDIT - What I don't like about their wireless alarm system is that their inbuilt battery is quite small. In my last house the NESS system used a beefy 12V lead acid battery (like a small car battery) - but that was a wired system so that battery had to power all the sensors as well. These alarm systems have a small pack of 8 AA NiMH batteries joined together!

  • Can't believe they are doing this again after the last massive stuff up. My $100 worth of gear is still sitting around as they didn't send all the ordered components.
