this should be a better deal on the lumia 520 than this one below , but it's locked to telstra
also price match at OW for $94.05?
lumia 520 gsmarena spec , as it's a telstra phone, it would be one of the 850MHz version, so no optus 900MHz.
Dick says it includes $10 credit before u click in under "hot deals", but u dont see it on the actual page.

also there is this Dick Smith $110 Gift Card for $100 someone might be itnerested, but no click and collect and postage costs $4.95

edit: crammed the title to include the lumia 1020 as it seems to be the best price around

  • just got lumia 1020

Au sttock ! cheaper than Kogan $639, but without grip.

  • Got a Lumia 520 for my mum!

  • 568 + 82 (camera grip) = 650, 11 dollar more expensive than kogan for au stock. Don't forget 20 dollar appstore voucher

  • how easy is it to unlock the lumia 520?

    • +2

I think $27,50 through Telstra. You could use prepaid credit for the unlock though, so if you find some good deal on Telstra prepaid it'll be cheaper. Used this method to unlock mine, $15.

      • hmm. but this only works after 6 months right? It costs more before that?

        • No, straight away. Someone mentioned in the earlier deal that after 6 months it would be free but I forgot to even ask. Of course I could've I had the phone already for 6 months…chat with telstra online and verify?

        • From livechat:

          The unlocking fee will be
          - for the first 6 months $100
          - after 6 months - $27.50
          - no unlocking fee after 2 years

        • Ok, maybe they made a mistake in my case, or you could say you've had it for 6 months. :0)

        • +1

Advise them you need to use the phone overseas and need it unlocked. Have had success with that in the past and no fee.

        • bit risky if they won't do it… $100 is a lot to unlock.

        • so… you may as well buy the unlocked version at DSE for $129.00 (or pm at OW for $122.55)… lol

        • but who knows what the unlocked version frequencies are. :/

  • Can you use Boost Telstra SIM on this $99 Lumia 520 (Telstra prepaid)?

  • Anyone know if the 520 would be considered "superior" or "inferior" to a galaxy s2? On paper it looks a lot worse, but i've been told that reality is a little different. I don't do anything other than communication with the phone (i.e. no games etc, but I do use skype, whatsapp, viber, sms, calls, emails(gmail). The only other app I have is a profile scheduler, but it's not a big issue if I can't get this. My s2 seems to crash a few times, so I wanted to get a different phone.

    • No front camera and no flash.

      • Should have added, I almost never take photos with my phone… I am more concerned with performance; i.e. will it take a few seconds for the screen to activate when i remove the phone from my face, will it take a few seconds to get into sms apss/ calling screen etc. Sorry I wasn't clear.

The 520 will perform faster than S2 because windows phone doesn't use much memory.

I've compared to the GSII and although the camera is worse (which you don't use), everything else is easily on par. Even if you look at the specs they are very similar. Build quality is much better on the 520 and the GSII stopped receiving official updates although you can easily go down the path of CyanogenMod.

There's no lag navigating around the phone at all, some apps will take a moment to open but once they're up and running switching back to them is instantaneous. No perceivable lag opening SMS folder (even with thousands of msgs as it merges with Facebook chat if you wish) and no issue with proximity sensor when removing from face.

We have an S2 and a 520 at home. The 520 seems much faster and smoother to use than the S2. I have not seen it lag and switching between apps is almost instantaneous. However, sometimes, depending on the app, it can take a few seconds to launch it. Though the S2 takes better snaps, the 520 isn't bad and takes good casual photos. There are also quite a few camera enhancements that you can download from the windows app store for the 520.

All in all, I am very, very impressed with what the 520 is capable of given the spec and the price I paid($149). The only issue is the windows app store leaves a lot to be desired. For example, the stock browser isn't bad, in fact, it seems to load sites faster that S2's stock browser. However, when it fails to load/render a site correctly, there isn't any other decent alternative available on the store. You do get Office and free offline turn-by-turn navigation.

I also think the 520 has got a better speaker than the S2, but that could just be me.

UC browser is an excellent alternative to the stock browser.

        • Thanks, thewingman. Will try it out.

  • [deleted], i can't do internet

  • "also there is this Dick Smith $110 Gift Card for $100 someone might be itnerested, but no click and collect and postage costs $4.95"

Just incase anyone is buying the $110 gift card, it's free postage, not $4.95

    • home delivery only
this sale will expire by the time the gift card is delivered

  • Does Dicksmith giftcard work at other places? Big W, Woolies etc.

    • NO.. not any more.

  • Has anyone tried OW price beat yet?

  • Can the 520 do optus 3g?

    • the telstra locked one has no 900mhz 3g. no specs are given for the other one.

  • Wish I had wanted to get the Lumia 1020, incredible price with free delivery here.

  • I need a cheap second phone so I was thinking the 520. Whats this about frequencies? Will it not work on some networks or just some frequencies some networks use?

  • can you run Viber voice/text on 520?

  • Thanks OP :D got the 1020 for the ms :D
