$40 for 720P res 4.3" PMP a good deal?

Hey guys was looking through DX's new arrivals, not even sure if this is a deal but what caught my eye was that they bothered to put a 1280x720 screen in one of these cheap ass pmp's. The best I've seen in them are like 800x480 and most 480x272 at the same price or a bit lower (say 30$). I'm actually tempted to get one even though I have a 5.5" phone just to see what it's like. If the interface is half decent (but I highly doubt it) and the audio quality is good it wouldn't be a bad mp3 player. It's got TV out albeit via old composite cables too, output res is unknown.

  • And when you click through the title says

    A131021023 1080p 4.3" HD Touch Screen MP5 Player w/ TV Out - Black (8GB)

    • yeah DX screws up info all the time, I actually wouldn't be suprised if it isnt actually 1280x720…

  • +1

What's the point in something like this when you can get a second hand phone with a 4.3" 720p screen for like not much more than this?

    • show me a link for a 720p device 2nd hand and I'll agree, the cheapest I'd think you'd find would be about 85-100$. Ie first smartphone that came to mind would be an old Galaxy Nexus - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-Google-Samsung-Galaxy-Nex… still 2 days remaining so it'd probably bump up to 100$ if not more by the end. I'm not saying this device is for everyone but if you wanted simply a pmp, 2.5 x the price is more than a few dollars…

      • Yes, the Galaxy Nexus was the first device that came to mind, and you can definitely get one for $100 these days, those things depreciated like crazy due to the Nexus 4 and 5's price.

Yes, it's 2.5x more, but it also acts as a phone. If you're really interested in just a media player, how about a 2nd hand iPod touch, such as this:

        http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/central-coast-nsw-region/mobi…

It's listed as $75, but given it's GumTree, the seller will probably be willing to sell for around $60. I still don't see the point in this thing, it won't work as well as an iPod touch and if you have a phone, then it's redundant.

You could probably also get a chinese tablet for less than $100.

Also, it won't really be a decent MP3 player either, it's massive!
