The article mentions nothing of number of users in each area.

Vodafone gained huge numbers of customers last time around by having the cheapest plans and ended up having customers leave in droves due to issues closely linked with network congestion. Could be a repeat.

I wouldn't take that to heart though, i believe it depends on the area the user of that particular app is in (i dont use it, i have 4g with virgin, optus network) and i'll seen speeds of 44+Mbps in some areas and some round 20ish Mbps. The results could be skewed towards certain areas.

Still that's pretty nice since vodafone's (when i used it last, it was round 5 yrs ago) reception was so terrible back in the day, i couldn't wait til my contract finished…

  • Don't even have 4G on the Sunshine Coast…

Still Vodafail for me, I got zero phone reception and terrible 3G reception at my house and in the surrounding area - even if internet is faster, I still wouldn't be able to make/receive calls without constant drop outs. Switched to the Optus network and haven't looked back.

  • No reception in certain parts if Humpty Doo, full 4G reception witn telstra and full 3G reception with optus.
    Voda (epic)fail.
Vofafone shop in Palmerston closed down within 12 months….

Yeah because no ones on the network… and/or because many of their customers don't have 4G enabled phones.

Quite a while back I was consistently getting 70mbps on Telstra's 4G network but that slowly dropped as more and more people joined the network with compatible devices. Currently I average around 20-25mbps with peaks of ~45 in Sydney.

Over a year ago a similar article was written about Optus 4G speeds trumping Telstra's but look at where they sit now in the latest speed results…

& I won't even start on the reliability and coverage of Vodaphones network…

    • Bingo.
      From the linked article
Among the reasons Vodafone came out on top is the fact it currently has more 4G spectrum and fewer 4G customers than its competitors.

  • Still VodaFAIL

They selectively allow user to use 4G network (even if the users are in 4G coverage area and have 4G compliant equipment). Selection criteria being the type of plan. So if you are on plan with low usage (and hence you are low paying customer), chances are you are still on 3G.

By allowing only a few many users on to their 4G network, they will of course get better speeds.

  • Yesterday I got a call from optus as I had left them 2+years ago and they wanted to win me back. I told them the vodafone $30 ($35, got $5 off sale) BYO plan I am on and all they could offer me was the same plan for and extra $10 a month! All optus were prepared to do to get me back was talk down the vodafone network and not argue contruscrively or cut me a deal.

For this I can see vodafone climbing up the phone network ladder and knocking out competitors, who are hardly competing, such as optus.

  • Just waiting for my voda plans to expire, then telstra prepaid using starter kits is my way forward.

Voda has been quite good to me: Free voda to voda calls, 10% off on addl plans, addl 6gb free for a year, $20 off on my $49 plan, iPad with data for less than $30 a month. But the reception in my area never improved. To think I'm close to the city. Someone would call and can't get thru though the phone is idle, very slow data connection, cellular data pretty useless.

  • My 4G is getting very slow, only about 7mbps download now… It used to be 30+… I guess there's more people on 4G in Sydney city now… (On Optus network)

  • Im on vodaphone $45 p/m unlimited calls and texts to anyone.

Only have 2gb data but thats ok because I mainly use wifi.

Im not sure if my galaxy s4 is 4g ?? How can I tell if I get 4g when im not on wifi?

Ive had many years of signal problems with vodaphone but stuck with them because after a few complaints they gave me 6 months free unlimited. .. now signal is a bit better but still nowhere near telstra and optus.

I live 10 mins outside wollongong. I get no signal at uni lol

    Pookie

    • S4 shows 4G on on the signal bar when on 4G,
      H means it's on 3G (or it can show H+ or 3G)
      E or G means 2G

      • Thanks for the info :) I only get H+

Ive never seen 4g. But I checked and my phone is able to do 4g.
