  • Wonder if the charging card for the galaxy note 3 will go on sale too?

  • Going to have to wait a long time to get it. Doesnt leave the ware house for 20 days!!

  • +1

The charger mat is pretty solid and good quality, not plastic made.

YES, plastic made. In fact it is made of 100% plastic, with a plastic front, a plastic rear and plastic finish.

We got one when they were $19 - it works well to charge a Nexus 7.

Only hassle is that it is too small for a tablet, so you have to fiddle about to find the "charging sweet spot". My son finds it easier to place the talbet down on the shelf, then lie this charger thingy on the top (rather than placing device on the charger). This would not be the same problem with a mobile phone.

    • Is the top a soft touch finish? Not that I need any more Qi charging pads..

      • +1

yes it's got a soft rubbery feeling top.

    • Thanks for the correction.

  • +5

The input current really should be 1.5a or higher.

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676249

I guess you can get one earlier and cheaper off ebay.

  • +11

    Kogan means I will pass

    • To be fair, I have the non-slim model and it's the best built wireless charger I've owned..

  • What is its output current? With an input current of 1A it's likely to be only ~500mA output yeah?

    • It depends of the charger and the quality of your usb cable.

      For me ~800mAh

      • That 800mA reading, is that what your phone is measuring? Looking at these charger reviews it seems ~780mA is the max that the N5 takes as input, if this charger provides 780 also then it seems like it's charging at the maximum pace.

  • +1

Nah, the INPUT is the rating that's recommended max for the power supply. The less OUTPUT on a plug pack power supply, the cheaper it is.

A manufacturer including a 2A supply for a 1A product is good practice as a supply run at 1/2 it's rating will last a lot longer than one run at 90% of its rating

By providing just a 1a supply, the company is being cheap.
Output current will still likely be 700+mA, assume only 80% efficient circuitry (conversion to wireless) and you're driving that supply hard.

    • You'll find the conversion is 70-73%

  • +1

I have a cheap eBay QI charger and it says 1a supply. I also have to jiggle it a bit to get the sweet spot
I put it on at night and its always fully charged in the morning. I believe that it is better to recharge batteries slowly anyway

    • +1

It is, but it's also better not to expose batteries to heat (which wireless charging tech seems to generate a lot of). So we'll need to see review some studies on battery life.

      • It depends on the charger - My Nexus 5 gets hotter in general use than it does when charging on my Nokia DT-900.

    • i assume i have a similar one runs about 500mA but yes after a night it is charged

  • Whats with the $1 ones on ebay? Do they work?
Or even the $9 ones like this. Is there a technical difference for the $15 Kogan one?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Qi-Wireless-Charging-Pad-for-Sams…

    • $9 is for the receiver.

      • Have a closer look. I think you will find it's for pad and receiver.

    • Check the options, it's $23 for the charging pad.

Here's one that appears to truly be $9.70: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201048336286

EDIT: Kind of funny - while it's being delivered cheaply from Hong Kong, it's still estimating that it could arrive by the 27th, beats Kogan as they wouldn't even be shipping by then.

  • Add a 5 year warranty for $2.25 which brings the total to $17.25 :P

  • Does anyone know if the power plug is .au? or do i require an adapter also?

    • +3

      What's in the box
      Qi Wireless Inductive Charging Mat
      USB Cable

  • +4

I've only bad experiences with Kogan. Takes a while if you pre-order stuff like iphones. I'd rather have the money sitting in my account rather than theirs. I'd pass and go straight to ebay.

  • thanks op.

  • To use this pad I would need to buy the charging card for my Galaxy S4 which is currently $15, so add up to $30 am I right?

    • +1

      yes.

  • +1

Has anyone tried one of these with a spigen/rubber case on the Nexus 5?

    • I had spigen slim armor and spigen ultra hybrid cases. All works.

    • Not sure, but I have one and it charges with a Diztronic rubber case for my Nexus 5.

  • Anyone got this working on HTC One?

    • +1

you can't insert a charging receiver into the HTC One, unfortunately.

      • Waaaa~m :'(

        ALMOST miss my lumia 920

  • Been wanting one of these for a while for my Nexus. $15 why not :)

  • FYI, my Nexus 4 gets about 10 deg hotter compared with charging over usb and, naturally, takes longer to charge.

  • These work really well with the Nexus 5.

  • +1

Ordered. Also grabbed a few other things :) Started with $15, checked out $63

    • Awesome. You shall receive those things around June……
Still waiting over two months for my Fridge Thermometers.

  • Good for Lumina 920?

    • +1

Compatible with the following phones with no additional hardware:

      Google Nexus
      Nokia Lumia 920
      Nokia Lumia 928

  • 31 mar hey? So I'll expect the kogan item to arrive in 2 months or never?

  • +1

bought one last year to charge the nexus 7, takes alot longer to charge than by cord. i dont mean just a few hours either i mean more than overnight and its still not charged, sometimes it would just stop charging too.. wouldnt recommend

  • I got one last time they were on sale. No complaints, but I marginally prefer an eBay one I bought about $22.

    • +3

It says 1 sold, so that's you ?

  • Anyone know if Sony xperia work with this Qi?

  • Does nexus 5 / nexus 7 need charge card to work with this?

    • +2

      Nope, it's built-in.

      • Thanks mate! Bought one =)

        • +1

Oh I should have also mentioned, the 2013 Nexus 7 is the one that has wireless charging. The old one doesn't.

  • Damn missed out. If anyone changes their mind….

Are there any similar small/slim ones on eBay?
I was going to try rig one in my car, and thus risk breaking it.
    So needs to be cheap!

  • Dispatched via AP.

  • Received my charger yesterday.

  • Got mine on the weekend (Perth).
