LG G Pad 8.3 Wi-Fi $298 at JB Hi-Fi

360

JB Hi-Fi have the LG G Pad 8.3 for what seems a good deal to me. They only appear to have white.

My wife has been wanting something a little bigger than 7" (in tablets people. Head out of the gutter!) and after a lot of research I settled on the LG G Pad being the best bang for you buck in that market.

Slightly cheaper than this deal at Bing Lee which is now at $317.
Best price according to staticice is Bing Lee and then Harvey Norman at $328.

Seems like a good price for the specs:
* 8.3" Full HD IPS display
* Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quad- Core 1.7GHz CPU
* 2GB RAM
* 16GB eMMC
* Qpair smartphone connection
* Quickremote programmable remote control
* Android 4.2.2(Jelly Bean) - Upgradable to 4.3 and 4.4.2 coming soon
* 5MP AF Camera
* 4,600mAh Li-Polymer battery

Some reviews:
ZDnet - 9.5/10
engadget 8/10
cnet - 8/10

Main complaint seems to be the price point, and at sub-$300 I don't think it's too bad.

    I've got this tablet and love it. Just chuck on Mahdi or CM11 and it's perfect.

    Great tablet. Perfect size in my opinion. LG already has released 4.4.2 ROM for it to upgrade it to.

    "something a little bigger than 7" (in tablets people. Head out of the gutter!)"

    I hear 'tablets' can help you get there ;)

    • +5

      +1 for going the extra inch

    • I see what you did there. Well done!

    • Is the black one bigger?

    It's been this price for awhile now (1-2 weeks?), It started at $399.00 when they had exclusivity but they didn't move.

    It is now priced at what it is worth, so hopefully they will start selling them now.

    • It's been this price for awhile now (1-2 weeks?)

      Yeah….at least….i'm hanging out for the black one.

      • Yeah, I only started looking for these tablets a day or so ago, and noticed this was the best price around and was less than a previous deal that people seemed to like. Wife has white macbook, so white tablet will compliment. :)

          "Macbook, you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen"

      • I don't think we are able to get local stock of the black one as only the white model was released in Australia

      • +7

        Yeah….at least….i'm hanging out for the black one.

        I think the black one is 10"

        • No, Black's just doesn't seem to be available for Australia retail yet.
          You can get grey imports from kogan though

        • They come in grey as well as in black and white?

          How many shades of grey do they have.

    i paid $284 which included a sandisk 16gb class 10 micro sd card form JB HIFI. great tablet totally worth it.

    • hey where did u get this deal from? which store?

      • +1

        Castle Hill which is in Sydney

        • i couldn't get them to do me the same deal in Dandenong, Victoria. i paid $284 without the memory card. the store price is actually $289 not $298. thanks by the way.

  • Guys, I have been thinking to get this one http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tablets-accessories/asus-me102a-… from Dick Smith which would primarily be used for internet surfing. Should I go for it or the LG G Pad?

    • +1

      LG G Pad for sure

    • Yes,you should….The Asus has a terrible low resolution screen, slower processor, and only 1GB ram.

      Don't buy any android device with less than 2gb of ram…..very sluggish.

    My head wasn't "in the gutter" until you mentioned it.

  • Originally I want Nexus 7, then did my research and been to the store to see the products in person. Now I am thinking to get this G pad or Galaxy TabPro 8.4.

    • +1

      Yeah, I was looking at the TabPro too. It looks good but seems a bit overpriced to me. G Pad seemed like more bang for your buck.

      • I got the Tabpro recently and it is a beautiful device.

        Can get it from DWI or eglobal for around $370 delivered now.

        You won't get local warranty on it though - but I do not regret my purchase :-)

  • I sold my nexus 7 and bought this piece. Totally not regret at all.

  • any price matching guys?

  • +1

    Good tablet but slower than my phone (Nexus 5). I think I'll wait until the Nexus 8 to be released.

    • I assume you are just talking about the spec difference between Snapdragon 600 and 800. I terms of real use I find it very smooth on Kit Kat. I am not a game player so that may be one area where it may show up. Otherwise this is the smoothest tablet I have used including in comparison to my iPad3.

      • No doubt its fine for browsing, and even gaming with all games released to date. The Nexus 8 will have much better specs though, might cost around the same and will be better able to handle future, cutting edge games.

        • That would mainly be applicable if you feel that you need/want to play cutting edge games at full resolution. For most other people this tablet should perform well for 3 to 4 years. The main reason that me and others would consider holding off for the Nexus 8 would be getting more future software updates beyond 4.4.2 KitKat.

    Love mine. Have the latest version of KitKat running on it - it's amazing. Best tablet I've ever owned.

  • Is this JB's new normal price for it or does this deal have an expiry?

  • +1

    8" for $298? Seems like good bang for buck here!

  • +1

    Just bought one of these - not even out of the box yet. My local JB Hifi still had it signed at $398 - staff were very surprised when I told them it is on their website for $298 and almost seemed a little reluctant to sell it at that price.

    • Nice. I had a run with the one I bought last night. Seems super smooth and an incredible display!
      Also installed the update to 4.4.2 (KitKat). Awesome!

      • i better open mine tonight and test it out, bought last night as well :)

  • I am having problems with the wifi ( still on 4.2.2). It connects OK to my home wifi and I can browse and download "small" things — but as soon as I try to download large files, the wifi disconnects from the Internet after every 10 megabytes or so - if I turn wifi (on the phone ) off and back on again, the download continues for a while but then repeats the cut off — have to turn the wifi on and off about 5 times to download a 100 meg file.

  • Bought it last night from North Sydney store after Chatswood store refused to accepted the Web price, yesterday was last day for the deal, updated to kitkat and wife is happy :-)

  • Expired.
