  • I'm looking for some too but never heard of this brand

Is it as good as Turtle Beach?

    • Well, I got four touchdowns in a single game if that's worth anything…

As a brand with over 40 years of experience building premium home audio products, Polk Audio's first foray into the gaming space with the 4Shot headset for Xbox One naturally piqued my interest. After all, decades of audio engineering experience would surely result in an exceptional gaming headset, right? Evidently not. In spite of its unique style and exceptional comfort, Polk's 4Shot is poorly constructed and provides an audio experience that is, at times, fatiguing for the user.

Edit: Apparently there was a software update after this review which fixed many of the problems.

    • I'm going to guess that "licensed" means "not made by", and that's why they're so keen to have it in front of these products.

Nice find!, just ordered a pair for myself, EB selling these for $219 so $58 is a great bargain.
Also watched an unboxing online and they appear to come with the official wireless headset adaptor for the controller which retails for $39.95

    • +1

Exactly why i ordered it, at this price it's a certified bargain !

  • Says it's only online on Big W site

Do click and collect if there's a store near you

      • Thanks

        • I don't have that problem, I was able to order to my local Victorian store.

        • Fixed it now

  • Can this be used on a computer instead?

    • Yes - you just need to buy an audio/mio splitter.
search at staticice - shouldn't be more than 5-10 bucks

  • It seems to work for the PC. Check the Amazon page, it mentions it. Though I'd like to know if it works for the Xbox 360 too

For those after something for PC and wireless, the Turtle Beach X32's can be had for around $85 delivered.

Amazon Reviews link, seems Polk has fixed the mic problem by now:

    Edit 3/28:

Note that video review consists of pt1: original mic sound, then it is immediately followed by the fixed microphone at the 30-second mark.

As many know, the mic quality (that is, other players being able to hear you speak) is problematic. Turns out it's not a hardware issue, it's a firmware issue. Microsoft is aware of the problem and they are going to be updating the drivers, which should resolve the mic issue.

But first, Polk has responded to the mic issue by sending out a hardware fix. They promised this a few weeks back, and I received mine today. (They're in San Diego, I'm in Los Angeles, so quick shipping. I'd imagine it may be a few more days for east coasters, but that's just a guess.)

It basically replaces the cable you use to connect the headphones to your xbox controller. The new cable has a small, flexible mic sticking out. I've done a test, and it absolutely fixes the problem. Don't take my word for it, I've recorded a video (gotta love the xbox's built-in ability to record clips and add voice over to them), and I'll upload the clip here as a video review. You'll hear the before and after.

Remember to register your headphones and you'll get the new mic sent to you for free. And my hat is off to Polk for not waiting for the firmware to be fixed, but rather they went proactive and are dealing with the problem themselves, to make sure we've got a great headset.

    Short version:

Pros: excellent game sound. Forget the "stereo" designation — the audio is immersive and you absolutely can track sound all around you.

I wonder if they would send a boom mic for us Aussies !

    • I would say yes

      • They most certainly do. I have one already.

  • +1

Just purchased one for delivery, due between 12th to 16th will let you know how it goes! Planning on trying my luck getting the boom mic and updating all the firmware either end. At this price for a new X1 licensed headset have to be happy with it!

Any difference in regards to nova blue to black other then colors and price? I notice black are $124

    • Just the colours, that's the only difference.

  • I saw the review and they said it works on PC and smart phones.
But does it work via wireless or it needs to be corded on these devices?
    Anyone can confirm?

    • Needs to be corded on these devices, its wireless through the xbox one controller.

    • Smart Phone - comes with the cable
PC - will require you to buy a audio/mic splitter to use microphone (5-10 bucks from anywhere).

No wireless - even on XboxOne (though the Xbox One control is naturally wireless)

    Anyone got theirs yet?

    • +1

I received mine today, Even though it said I would be getting it on the 17th to the 19th of June

      • +1

wow nice. what do you think about the sound quality and the mic?

        • +1

The sound quality is really good, as good if not better than my Autotechnic m50. I haven't used the mic yet but apparently it is quite good. The build quality is also quite impressive, they don't squeak at all (unlike my G930) and the just feel very solid (The brackets that holds the ear cups are metal).

The one draw back is they are a little uncomfortable to begin with, after about an hour my ears start to hurt (I have only used they for a total of about 4 hours). I feel as if they need to be "broken in" because the more I wear them the more I get used to them.

Over all for the price I think you will never find a better headset and I think the fact you can use these with your phone and Xbox one (and maybe PS4) is just the greatest part.

thanks for the feedback. i'm still waiting for mine to arrive at the macquarie big w.

Mine arrived today, very happy :D

        nice! any feedback?

  • I ordered mine for click & Collect but haven't heard anything yet :(

    • same here

    • I received an email that mine were ready for pickup today so went in and grabbed them this evening. Vic, Southland.

      Great headset for the price!

  • Received it today and tried it on Tomb Raider X1, quality is incredible. Both sound clarity and build feel is amazing.. Wayyyyyyy better then my Afterglow wired headset on 360 that was $5 bucks more expensive on Sale.. For the price compared to other headsets its head and shoulders above!

  • Just brought my pair, anyone else going to use this as a gaming headset for pc? Quite annoyed there is no guides or any reviews for the pc portion of it all, currently using turtle beach wireless ( not sure which model ) for pc gaming and skype, ive heard these are good so i hope all the best. If anyone knows or is doing similar to what i am please let me know and discuss! From what i know you need the adapter to convert 1 jack into the 2 seperate ones for pc.

    • These arn't going to be the best PC headphones. They will work through your headphone jack but they will only be stereo sound and I don't know how you would go about using the microphone in them for chat. They are only stereo on the Xbox also but the Xbox sends DSP sound to them for the surround effect. I would look elsewhere for a good PC headset.

      • +1

I like them as a PC headset - you just need to buy an audio/mic splitter (5-10 bucks from any online cable retailer)

        • Ive brought mine, how do you get decent mic quality? I tried them on Skype only issue is my voice is so feint and nobody can even hear me. I love the sound quality, but im waiting for the boom mic, apparently that should fix my issues, unless you have other ways you got them working? Please share!

  • Picked up mine today. Awesome value considering that it comes with the chat adapter which on its own is $40. Extremely comfortable and great sound. Not sure about the chat, have to do some more testing with my mates.

    • Hi Spartan, what date did you pay for the headset online? I just tried to order it yet it only allows me to place it on layby for the Christmas period. I then called up Big W head office and they said that you can only order this item for Christmas, either that or wait till Thursday next week, when this price will be offered in-store. This is confusing me as a lot of Oz-bargainers here have already received this item through delivery/click&collect, and even the lady I talked to was confused??

      • I placed my order on the 10th of June it was only for a short time I believe.

Just been chasing up the Boom Mic and been emailing Polk for the right process. They have provided the following response for others in the same boat (mine is on it's way)

"Hi Rick, the best way is to use the website http://www.polkaudio.com/4shot_promo.php to register, and just be careful when filling in details that the State, Zip Code and Country are carefully filled in. We’re despatching quite a few Chat Pros from the registrations, but they tend to go out bi-weekly, so there may be a small delay sometimes. If they’re in a hurry, or run into problems, I’m happy for them to email me direct, but I can’t add anyone to the registration database so they miss out on quite a lot of relevant info and support by not registering."

Pretty good follow up service from the guys at Polk and looking forward to receiving the boom mic, the build quality and sound is great and for the price this is a steal, especially with them providing the boom mic for free.

    Thanks
    Rick
