Pretty average - own one and picked up when they were half price (about all they are worth).

No timer and low runs a bit too hot for most meals to draw it out to 8 hours.

But for the price if you dont expect too much and monitor / stir hourly you should be right.

agree with you runs to hot for a slow cooker, if a recipe says 8 hours this thing
        will do it in 5

Yeesh! Having to stir it (hourly no less) definitely rules it out as a functional slow cooker.

    • Cheers, Xmas sorted.

Ideally you shouldn't be opening up a slow cooker while cooking. If I think it needs a stir I pick the whole unit up and grip the lid tight and give the whole thing a swirl. So far I haven't dropped it, this would make a good spare I think.

Edit. Sorry this in reply to pw2002au above

    • Taking the lid off is much safer, and no harm. It's not like a Weber.

    Great for winter time.

  • I'm still on the hunt for a deal on a quality slow cooker, happy for any suggestions! This looks like a good price though.

I like stew. Coming home to warm food sounds good.

I think you'll find most new slow cookers really get a bit too warm to be left on for 8hrs +.

Why? Apparently the "ideal" slow cook temp is about 72C+ to ensure most bugs are killed and older slow cookers hit that or a little bit over e.g. 80-ish C. The problem was that people were putting in frozen food so that even over 8hrs the final temperature never really hit the mark. Hence, most new slow cookers get too warm just in case and of course it reduces potential legal bills due to undercooked food etc.

Me? I converted mine (Kambrook) to a Sous Vide cooker but of course the same temperature probe will allow it to slow cook perfectly as well.

I think Kambrook 6L is better quality for $35 reduced from $79.95

Eh? Looks like identical design, made in the same Chinese factory.
Since Kambrook and Ronson are both just brands owned by Breville, that is not surprising.
Neither has been a real company for many years.

  • i would get the target branded one for $29 great unit for the money

    • I've bought several different Target Essentials items. They past the point of diminishing returns. ie: They were crappier than their cheap price. More cons than pros.

      Just my 2c
