    Still no plus models

    • yeh they come out on release date due to supply issues/uncertainty

  • thanks, sold!

  • re iphone 6 plus…..

Hi there unfortunately Apple strictly advised that they will not be accepting pre orders for the 6+ since it will be sold directly first on our Virgin stores beginning September 19 then online on a later date.

this is from there online chat

  • Their phone insurance is terrible value - $238.80 over 24 months + $200 excess
    Compare to AppleCare+ which is $129 for 2 years + $99 excess

    • +9

but a lot of purchasers might not b thinking all that straight as they rush to be in the first batch of people to receive this marvelous piece of revolutionary…. hang on - this new phone

    • +13

AppleCare+ does not cover lost/theft phones, which virgin insurance does.

      • Whoops
Though I wonder how many people exploit that…

        • +4

It's not worth exploiting, cause you have to pay the excess every time, they block the IMEI, you may have to go to the police to file a report AND you're paying the monthly fee as well. Too much effort. You get a refurb usually too…

  • Love to see if Virgin comes up with iphone 6 plus 16 gb for $60 pm

    • +1

They are $60pm on their website.

  • Note that these orders may take up to four weeks to arrive…

  • +4

Note they calculate the 64GB phone "equipment charge" to be worth $1344 or $56pm, something to consider if you're planning on leaving the plan early.

    • Where did you find that info?

  • +2

wow so originally they were gonna offer 300mb???!!!!!! Gee whiz

    • +2

I find Virgin very stingy with their data. I am considering moving all our family mobiles away from them.

  • +2

Are these prices considered good? I've always considered Virgin to be tight…..

    • +2

      Pretty good I would say.

Assuming your regular monthly use is $20, then $60pm makes you pay $40 for the phone each month, thus the phone costs $960 in 24 months. Not pointing out that you may also early upgrade.

I would say $450 and 2.5GB data worth at least $20pm.

      • With $60 per month you only get $300 + 2.3Gb

        • +5

good thing about virgin is unused credit gets rolled over! i am on $450 a month but this month i had over $700 in credit to use since I didnt use much the previous month.

    • Don't know I have no experience myself

      • It's ok, they'll be gentle…

        • +3

I just want it to be special though

    • +5

If you feel it's not a deal, then report it. No need to neg it.

      • +28

        FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!

      • +3

I'm just stating what the procedure was with a different popular mobile phone when first released. Why should different sets of rules apply. Removing my neg.

        • +5

Virgin is cheaper than other companies, which made it a deal

        • @dars:

Google sold the nexus cheaper than HN and Kogan, point is?

      • What is the neg button for then?

        • A very specific set of rules. Only in the very very worst cases you can use a neg otherwise you will be scolded by the mods.

        • +23

The neg button is the point of no return…you would have wanted to be captain of the school debating team if you push it…I've hovered over it many times, only to chicken out at the last second and bury my negative thoughts deep in my soul.

        • +1

          10/10 would read again

    • +13

when I posted the nexus 4 as a deal when it was first released

i think you need to let it go ;)

      • +2

        let it go

        let it go…let it go….

        • darude sandstorm?

        • Can't hold it back anymore..

    • Don't worry Davo the next Nexus will be a great deal, race you to post it!

    • +1

      iPhone.

  • Does anyone know when the extra 2gb deal will end?

    • +3

      19oct

  • +1

If the preorder was available on Sunday 14th when I tried, I'd be getting one. But since the allocation at that time had run out, I got over the hype and decided to try Android (HTC One M8). We'll see how that goes, and maybe the iPhone 6S will win me back.

  • +7

    Is it better if:
    1. Buy Kogan voucher from eBay 15% off (ends midnight) of up to $960 in value.
Therefore spend around $816 in separate transactions (eBay limit up to $667).
    2. Buy iPhone 6 at Kogan which presumably cheaper than Apple Store. At the moment it's not cheaper, but let's assume it will drop say $40. The assumption is on the base that Kogan would better Apple price.
    3. Get Prepaid from Spintel and spend around $20 pm, or Lycamobile unlimited $29pm

In total, you spend approx $816 outright for iPhone 6 64gb, and spend $20pm on prepaid mobile and no contract.
In 24 months, you would spend total $1296, compare to this deal of $1440 with contract, you saved $144 or $6pm.

    • +1

You're a true bargain hunter sir, hat off to you :).

    • +3

Well, you did not take 'time value of money' into account. Paying for the phone month by month is better than paying some big money at the start.

      • +1

That's a good point, honestly I would go with the Virgin deal, it's much easier and better bargain, I think

    • +5

I'm guessing nobody read the t/c in the eBay 15% off deal
      11. Gift cards/certificates/vouchers are excluded from this offer.

      • wha…..???

    • +2

Personally I would go this, but I prefer the Telstra prepaid just because I love the speed and coverage.

What many people forget to include in these calculation is is the fact that a $20 plan per month can easily cost you 60 or $70 if you slip up just once (which is bound to happen).

Much less of a problem on prepay.

      • +1

If saving money was an issue yes you would pay for phone outright then go on prepaid. Im on Vaya at $18 a month and its great value. But I want 128GB iP6+ so Ill be happy to pay over two years and claim on tax.

        • If saving money was an issue, people would be buying an iPhone 5 right about now.

        • @muncan:
iphone 5? lol if money was a problem and you are in need of a phone there are a lot of android phones in the budget area.
          no money, no apple

        • +1

@astarman: I said if money was an issue…
Sure if you've got a problem, then get an Android ;-)

        • +1

          @muncan:
if money was issue or problem… whats the difference?

    • consumer law in aus is 2 years warranty for aus iphone products. Kogan one someone mentioned was from the states. I don't know if it's still covered for 2 years compared to the standard 1 year from Apple/Kogan site

Australia's Laws and Consumer Legislation do not apply to phones purchased from Kogan HK P/L and then privately imported by the buyer.

iPhones purchased from Kogan HK P/L may have been first purchased in the USA, Europe, or Asia. Depends on the model, almost all 5c were from Asian market, all the 5s were from the USA.

Can you provide a source for this information? Kogan is a registered Australian business, hence they're bound by Australian consumer law. The origin of the product is irrelevant.

        • @ComfortablyNumb: Kogan HK P/L

        • When I had an iPhone 4S, bought from Kogan, that suddenly had a faulty power button, I contacted them and got issued a full refund 2 years after I bought it (used it to buy a new 5S.. woo!). If that's not statutory warranty, then I don't know what is. And no, I didn't have Applecare.

        • @ComfortablyNumb:

Can you provide a source for this information?

Sure. Kogan's website, and Kogan's eBay listings, and many, many, threads here and on Whirlpool.

Kogan is a registered Australian business,

Kogan Australia Pty. Ltd. you mean.

hence they're bound by Australian consumer law.

Yes, but the iPhones offered for sale on eBay (and via the Kogan web site) are not being sold or supplied by Kogan Australia Pty. Ltd. They are being sold and supplied by a Hong Kong company. Hong Kong Consumer Protection Legislation applies to these sales.

The origin of the product is irrelevant.

Not really. If Kogan Australia Pty. Limited was selling Apple phones that had already been imported into Australia - 1) The two year Australian Consumer Guarantee would apply. 2) There would be no local support for warranty from Apple Australia.

        • @ejsteven:

When I had an iPhone 4S, bought from Kogan

From Kogan Australia or from Kogan HK P/L?

If from Kogan Australia it might have been subject to our Consumer Guarantee (depending when it was purchased).

I contacted them and got issued a full refund 2 years after I bought it

It may have been sold by Kogan Australia. It may even have been an AU/NZ Market model.

If that's not statutory warranty, then I don't know what is.

          It may have been.

And no, I didn't have Applecare.

AppleCare would have meant you would get a replacement handset from Apple. Not a refund of the purchase price.

          @A3Australia:

Sure. Kogan's website, and Kogan's eBay listings, and many, many, threads here and on Whirlpool.

No it doesn't. It clearly states that products shipped by Kogan HK are covered by Australian Consumer Law:

Kogan HK will repair, replace or refund faulty or damaged Products in accordance with the Warranty Terms and Conditions and Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Returned Kogan HK Products, under the Returns Policy must be returned in their original packaging with all accessories, and must be in a re-saleable condition. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this clause limits or restricts Your ability to make a claim that may be available to You for failure to comply with a guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law. If you are returning a Product due to a fault or defect under a guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law, you may be able to return the Product without its original packaging.

          http://www.kogan.com/au/terms-and-conditions/

Stop purporting this asinine rhetoric every time someone mentions Kogan.

    • not worth the extra effort for the small saving

    • +1

except for the fact it takes 4 weeks to kogan to ship. I would assume you can get them on first day from virgin

    • Buy iPhone 6 at Kogan

You meant "Buy iPhone 6 from Kogan HK P/L" correct?

If so, you only receive a one year warranty from Apple HK, and a one year warranty from the reseller who is Kogan HK P/L. If you purchase from Virgin AU you have a one year warranty from Apple Australia and the two year Consumer Guarantee.

    • It would pretty much be the same in the end. Spintel will cost $24-$27 per month depending if you choose 1.5gb or 2.5gb. 27*24=$648 648+816=$1464

      • don't forget the $25 SIM fee from spintel…

It's still a bit cheaper to sign up to VM than if you use cash rewards to get an iphone from apple then sign up to spintel for 24 months (~$1453).

May work out to be $1383 if you go overseas and claim GST. Kogan would be cheaper but you would have to do away with the ACL and an adapter.

    • I am not sure about the warranty of grey import.
But "Apple gives Australians two-year warranty"
      http://www.afr.com/p/technology/apple_gives_australians_two_…

      • I am not sure about the warranty of grey import.

Grey imports have not been mentioned.

Buying from Kogan has been mentioned.

If one buys from Kogan Web Site, or Kogan's eBay listings, the phone's are 'private imports' - sold by Kogan HK P/L. Therefore, no warranty from Apple Australia and no Australian Consumer Guarantee and no Australian Consumer Protection. Any consumer protection is under/subject to Hong Kong legislation.

But "Apple gives Australians two-year warranty".

Sort of - Apple warranty is for 12 months. However, there is an Australian Consumer Guarantee of at least two years. Which, of course Apple (now) supports.

    • you won't get the extra 2gb data per month and also you get less call credits with prepay

    • What ur also forgetting it with kogan ull be luky to have the phone by chrismas and that if they don't cancel the orders because they can fulfil them in the first place 4 weeks later like they did with the iPhone 5. Beware!!

  • +3

Could someone here clarify something for me?
Is the 2GB BONUS they are doing only to people that are changing NOT from Optus network?
I read the fine print and it says :

"Bonus 2GB: offer ends 19 October 2014. Available when you port your number across from a provider that does not use the Optus network, or you upgrade with us, and connect to a 24 month Virgin Mobile Postpaid plan. You will receive a bonus 2GB on top of your standard monthly data allowance until you cancel or change plans. Not available to use with other data offers. Data is for use within Oz, is counted per kilobyte and includes uploads an downloads"

So by that, I am technically upgrading with them from optus to a 24month plan.. so do I get the bonus 2gb?

Tried calling, put on hold for 20 minutes and had to hang up :(

    • +4

port your number to a $2 vodafone prepaid sim and move to virgin from vodafone.

      • If I apply today, when should I port my phone over to vodaphone?

Just when I receive the new phone or a week before?

    • Would like to know also as I am currently with Amaysim. Those plans would blow without the 2gb bonus.

      • +1

I was on amaysim… I ported to virgin prepaid, then "upgraded" to the 24mo contract. (found this out over the weekend when I visited a virgin store)

    • +1

Ok, I have sorted it out by talking to their online chat.
It is true, you will not get 2gb bonus swapping from an Optus based network.
Even the sales agent recommended swapping to a non-optus based prepaid then swap back onto virgin so I guess thats the go.

  • +3

You also get $35 referral bonus if you can find some existing virgin customer to refer you. If you can't find any, I'm happy to help. :-P

    PM me if needed.

    • +1

      Me too :)

    • +1

      pm'd
edit: if youre both offering i'd be happy to do a referal with either of you.
planning on signing up anyways ;)

    • Me 3 =]

    • could I get a referral please

    • late to the party, but happy to help with a referral too ;)

  • +1

Without virgin I would have never realized how great Vodafone's network was.

    • I think it depend the location, I am with Vodafone last year until August then switched to Virgin, Virgin has better 3g and calling reception than vodafone. I am still using 3g phone, so no idea on 4g.

      • That's true. I'm vodafone and think it's great. 4g in my suburb I live and where I work. And works generally well any where else I go

      • As of Oct 1, Optus/Virgin gain 20MHz and Telstra gain 40MHz of extra 4G spectrum on the 2600MHz band.

Voda do not — the only expansion they're doing to their network bandwidth is splitting their 850MHz spectrum in two, and allocating just 5MHz to 4G (by cutting their 850MHz 3G bandwidth in half)

Long story short — Voda's 4G bandwidth advantage in certain capital cities isn't going to last much longer, and willl be in 3rd place much like their 3G bandwidth and general coverage.

        • Actually your numbers are a bit skewed and to date there are no phones that support the 2600mhz spectrum yet every phone supports the 850 so Voda's move is smart.

        • +1

          @jimbobaus:

If by "no phones" you mean many recent phones including the iPhone 5c/5s/6/6+, Galaxy S4/S5/Note 2/Note 3, HTC One/One M8, LG G2/G3, Xperia Z1/Z2, Nexus 5, and even cheapies like the Moto G 4G…

And if by "skewed numbers" you mean published on the ACMA website:
          http://www.acma.gov.au/Industry/Spectrum/Digital-Dividend-70…

I know you work at Vodafone but stop spewing BS.

        • Thanks for the info. Very interesting and useful when deciding what provider to go with. This is why I love prepaid :-)

  • What about the 6 plus, are they getting any in stock on launch day?

  • I'm heading to the USA soon - would I be better off getting an AU iPhone 6 for AU$790 after 10% TRS, or a US iPhone 6 for ~AU$784 (US$649 + ~US$59 tax).
Hmm, I think I've just answered my own question :-)

    • +4

AU version is a no brainer

    • Does iPhone US works here?

      • My iPhone 5S from Kogan is a US model and works fine. Figured I could take Kogan out of the picture this time.

      • +2

There are two US models. See http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

The model sold on Sprint is identical to ours.
The model sold on AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile is not, and doesn't support the same LTE bands — although in practice it supports most AU bands (just not band 40, which is only used in Canberra on Optus right now)

Arguably no US model is worth it once you factor in the second year of warranty you get for AU models through Australian Consumer Law.

        • The model sold on Sprint is identical to ours.
The model sold on AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile is not, and doesn't support the same LTE bands

And it is the "AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile" model that is sold as 'unlocked' by Apple in the USA - is it not?

Arguably no US model is worth it once you factor in the second year of warranty you get for AU models through Australian Consumer Law.

Not to mention the first year of warranty from Apple, which is only valid if one takes/returns the phone to Apple USA.

However, if the saving is high enough some may take the risk…. I took it for a $550 16GB iP5s and friends took it for $400 16GB iP5c phones.
