Seems like a pretty good deal considering Sanity are charging $29.99…can't wait to see this movie again! If there is no Big W near you, Coles have it for $25.

Hope this deal helps you save a few bucks!

Cheers

It is worth noting though that Sanity are always extremely over-priced.

But yes this is a good price and gets my +1 even though I've got no other to compare against

  • I was gonna post this earlier but got distracted. Chaos have it for $36.99 and EzyDVD have it for $34.97 so this is definitely a bargain. If you don't have a BigW near you maybe you can get Kmart to price match.

    • kmart used to offer price match + 10% off the difference in the old days. These days they will only price match. Still a great BigW price for a new release. Considering all the online stores are priced over $37. Even the exclusive JB cover releases (kirk, spock or nero) @ $33 are still expensive.

You'll find Big W is ALWAYS the cheapest place for new release DVDs, as they sell virtually EVERY release well under wholesale cost, undercutting every other chain in the marketplace.

Wholesale cost for this 2-disc version (the single is a rental-only version) is $29.99 EX gst ($32.99 inc), with a RRP of $44.95 … of course no-one is going to sell this for anywhere near the RRP, as its almost double what these undercutters are selling it for. Really #$%#%^s over the smaller independent retailers, as theres NO way to compete with this.

(Plus if Big W has any competitors nearby who dare try to complete, they'll usually go even cheaper than the advertised price.)

Useless fact - you could purchase this from Big W's online store for $30.84, or Chaos for $36.99 - yet they both ship from the same place!

Yes its a bargain, but its to be expected.

    • Agreed, They sell below cost, and place in the back of the store hoping you by other items. On Average Sanity only make a couple dollars on new release titles, if that..

The couple of Big Ws around me used to put them at the back, but over the last 24 months they've been brutal with their pricing & placing them outside the store (in the mall), inside where you walk in, and all over their home entertainment sections.

They sell below cost, the DVD companies swear black & blue they don't give discounts to enable this, yet they have lots and sell lots (therefore losing lots of $$$ - yeah, right!).

  • So what's the story with the Blue-Ray 3 disc version, including digital copy (for $29.87 on page 5)?
    Does that mean 2 x BR + 1 x DVD???

    • 1 digital copy, 1 DVd version and 1 BluRay version? Thats the norm atm

      • What IS the digital copy then please?
        A DVD-ROM disc with an .avi/.mkv/.mp4 file???

yeh its a Dvd-rom, (with the code that comes in the case) unlocks the file which then can be transferred onto a portable device, i.e. ipod

@swimmingtoad: Yea as swimming said, when I bought Wolverine it had a digital copy. As an ipod user I opened iTunes, went to redeem a code, entered the code supplied and it then extracted the file off the disc into my itunes library. Presumably now that is registered as purchased by my itunes account and I'd be able to re-download it from the store or copy from the disc agree completely free of charge.

Essentially I can now watch it on the computer (without disc obviously), or have a licensed version to copy to my iphone.

  • ….and then in a couple of months it will be selling for under $15……

  • Bluray for me thanks! But reportedly these are not available at BigW till Thursday, despite being available at other retailers.

  • picked up Star Trek at JB Hifi today for $30 as the Big W Melbourne city store absolutely sucks for getting stock of blu-rays in.
