There is a reason you're the only OB that I'm subscribed to! Now just waiting for some cheap Hobart to Japan in September deals, hopefully I haven't missed them all

Jetstar have had some great deals to Japan in the past (~$600) & I'll be posting them as soon as they appear. A quick Jetstar/Tiger flight to Melbourne & you'll be in Japan before you can say
      神聖ながらくたはゴジラということです?
(That took way too long to do)

      • Kekeke I will watch out for them. Thanks for all your posts saving us from searching every day, I really do appreciate it even though I've never been able to take advantage of any of them yet. I've got my eyes peeled now more than ever!

  • Can you help me by answering a couple of questions?

I am looking to take my family to USA again.

Question 1 - how old is an infant? My DD will be 1 when we leave and 2 when we return as she will have her birthday there. How does that work for flights?

Question 2 - why won't any site let me search on 2 adults and 5 children? Surely there are other families like mine? Do you have any suggestions about how to book for us?

    1. Infants are less than 24 months (2 years) at the time of travel. I don't think you are going to like this answer, but I am pretty sure that you are going to have to purchase an infant fare for the departing trip, and an child fare for the return.

    http://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/information/long-haul-i…
If your infant turns 2 years of age after the forward journey but before the return journey, the flights need to be booked as two one way trips indicating the correct age at the time of actual travel. In this case, forward journey would be booked as an infant and return as a child.

This rule may change between airlines though, so once you know the airline that you are flying with check with them.

There are a few posts about this issue:

    1. Sounds like a bug! I'll check it out & it should be fixed in the morning.
    • Thanks :)

I wish I had your access. Last time we went I got 2 adults and 4 kids for $6200 qantas return to LA. Now that there are 7 of us it's going to be more but the prices aren't that cheap either. Looking at leaving 20 June and returning 18 July if you have anything - we do actually have a LOT of qantas FF points too but I don't know how to use them lol.

      • Hi Diannesa,

Everything we have is already on the website. I haven't seen Qantas do flights to LA for less than $1200 for a while, so it will be hard to beat your previous fare. If you are ok with Air NZ, they have been offering flights to LA for ~ $960, which makes it a bit cheaper.

      • Case in point:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/186055
$1200 for Qantas off-peak flights to LA.

  • How about some good deals to Orlando (Florida).

  • Love your posts!

I am flying to LAX in October and return on 16th January 2016. It looks like the best fare at the moment is a Virgin/Delta fare for about $1150? Delta looks like the cheapest way to return in January 2016. I cannot find another option.
