  • I like this deal, but concerned about the cashback. On Catch of the Day they are stating the cashback ends on 31st December 2009, but on the Acer site I could only see the cashback ending 30th November 2009.. Maybe I have missed it though??

    http://www.shopacer.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Load…

Also, anyone know if officeworks pricematch from these websites??

    • Yeah, that website does give the impression that the cashback for the 751 model has ended on 30th November. I was keen on this deal (that is, until I read the thread on Whirlpool on acer cashback) so this date ambiguity regarding the cashback pretty much puts the nail in the coffin on this deal for me.

  • OW won't pricematch to one day pricing websites, only regular advertised list prices. Also while this is cheap, the Z520 processor is pretty slow - I had one of these and sold it after 2 months as it was even laggier than my previous Atom 270 netbook. I changed it to an 1810T (which looks very similar) but has a dual core processor. If you only need this for web browsing or one application at a time it'll do you fine though.

Yeah i was concerned about the cash back expiry date, but the Catch of the Day site does say Dec 31st, so if it's not then i will be demanding it from them, or a refund. I know that Acer have often extended their cash back offers in the past, so it didn't seem out of place to me.

  • this machine is epic-ly slow . no joke

(no hard evidence to support this statement)

  • I've played around with a couple of these, they're immense value. Screen is good quality, decent amount of RAM & HDD space, and can handle all normal office work functions (word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet, accounting software etc.).

The 6 cell battery gives it a nice long run as well.

I'm considering nabbing one and selling my Asus 1000HE.

$79 Cashback means, it is a 3-cell battery model

      • It's a 6-cell battery model.

      • -1

Any particular reason this was a reply to my post?

    • +1

Keep your Asus mate. Put Win7 On it and game over.

      • -2

I see no reason to put a slower OS on it…

    Hi,

This model has a $79 cashback until 31st december, Acer website will be updated shortly.

It is the 6 cell model, 100% confirmed.

    QQQ.

    • really confused, but anyway thanks

      • Basically the Acer website says $89 until January 31st 2010. This is incorrect.

It is going to be updated shortly to $79.

This is straight from the top at Acer.

I've also triple checked the battery size, and it is definitely the 6-cell/8 hour model.

        Thanks.

        QQQ :>

  • Will this play divx video smoothly?

    • Regular definition (~350MB per hour), yeah. High definition (~1GB per hour), no.

  • Good one except for the CPU (1.33Ghz)

  • Looks VERY suspiciously like the one we saw earlier this month for $299 after cashback.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/18609

Why buy from COTD if you can essentially get the same one for a whole $50 less?!? Also since it's been around for a month maybe OW will beat it?

    • Looks like the same model but this comes with the 6 cell battery which is worth the extra $50

  • Good deal

2 year warranty option isn't bad too with 12" case for $30

The CPU I read can be overclocked

All in all, an excellent machine if your primary uses are web surfing and word processing (i.e. uni/business work)

    • 15% failure rate by 2 years for an acer… so I got 15% chance I'll need the warranty!

  • -1

this is the same deal that was $299 before elsewhere.

    • +2

no, if you read above it's a 6-cell battery (worth much more than the $50 difference)

    • Redtiger, please update your profile status to "rep", its getting embarrassing now.

      • -1

it was $299, I dont know what your problem is matey.
I think your deal is embarrassing.
Dont shoot the messenger, and you should cut the paranoia, i am a customer of yours also and i bought a few things from you in the past, when your deals were genuine bargains.

I think you should apprecaite your customers a little more.
I am a professional hardware shopper and buy off most of the companies on ozbargain, and ozbargain is the best thing since slice bread, if its a bargain i will point out its a bargain, if i think it is not, i will also point that out also.

        • +1

It's been explained why that wasn't the same deal.

Would you like to counter that, or are you just going to cross your arms, put on your sad face and screach "NUP! SAME!"?

          • @[Deactivated]: umm
I have a few at work.
its the same deal, I guess you can come to my work and i will show you the 13 machines.
some of them were 3 cell some were 6 cell.
I am certain there are other ppl out there who bought them at $299 with 6 cell who can also verify this not just myself.
some had $79 cashback and some had $89 cashback.

            • @redtiger: So you're saying that other deal for $299, came with different batteries depending on how lucky you were? Some people got 3-cell, and some got 6-cell, for no apparent reason?

Also, did that other deal have 1yr extra warranty + a case for $30 extra?

            • @redtiger: Not the same deal if it was a "lottery"

            • @redtiger: Some had $79 and some had $89 cashback?

Until we did our deal both models had standard $89 cashback, 3-cell and 6-cell.

The cashback was changed on 1st of December to $79.

              Again, details are contradicting.

      • Hi QQQ

how long do these normally take to dispatch.

i ordered mine on the 1st and it still stays processing?

        thanks

        • I also ordered on the 1st (i was probably the first buyer seeing i bought 2hrs after the deal was posted, at 5am), and my order status is still "processing". Pretty slow, it's been 4 working days.

          • @Josh81: Yeah…

These deal a day sites are pretty notorious for slowww delivery

  • I recieved an email from COTD today with a tracking number for Aus Post. Keen to know from other OzBargainers how long after this things usually arrive. It is my daughters Birthday on Thursday and I am hoping to have it before then.

  • Where are the instructions that they said would be emailed on how to claim the cashback?

  • Got an email today with confirmation of shipment. No instructions re cashback in this email. I assume that will be provided with the item iteslf. Or you just go onto the Acer website, and hopefully they've updated it to show the new expiry date for the CB offer.

  • The COTD product webpage said detailed instructions will be sent via email when item is bought, so have they forgotten about it or are they going to email us later? QQQ?

  • Claiming is pretty easy.

    Google "acer cashback". Follow links.

  • Umm - I'll organise an e-mail asap.

The acer website has also been updated to the correct $79.

    • I still have not received an email.

      • me too… pretty poor form when you write a product description saying you'll send instructions, then clearly not even having such an email and promising you'd send one asap

        • Should have been sent.

There was a mis-communication between myself and the gents at CS, they should be e-mailing it today.

Its just a link to the Acer Cashback claim page, the procedure is as normal.

On the day of sale for some reason Acer website was advertising $89 cashback, when the actual amount is $79. I didn't want customers to think it was $89. So advised that we would send instructions seperately.

          Sorry,

          QQQ

Just received my laptop…just in time to give to my daughter when she gets home from school today for her birthday!

    • thats perfect timing! I am in NT… probably wont see it until next week, but thats normal

  • what state are you in? I'm hoping I get mine today too

    • Hi, live in Melbourne outskirts.

  • Mine arrived today, 30mins ago. I'm in Brisbane.

  • Mine just arrive too . Sydney , NSW.
Hope I can send the claim in time as it expires on 15 Dec ! :(

    • I was about to say what the… it expires on the 31st of Dec. But then i see that you only have 14 days from date of purchase to send your claim in.

      2) All Cashback claims must be registered online. All supporting documents should be sent within 14 days of purchase. Applications sent after this period will not be accepted. No extensions will be given under any circumstances.

I'm not sure what they mean by "should be sent within 14 days". Do they have to receive it within 14 days, or if i SEND it within 14 days and even if it takes another week to get to them i'm still covered…?

This is bloody Catch of the Day's fault, taking 5 days to send it out. Plus the bad luck of it arriving on a friday, and i didn't have time to send it out immediately. So the next soonest is monday, giving it only 1 day to get to Acer. Looks like i'll have to send it Express Post, costing me $4.50 instead of a 55c stamp. I want a refund of $4 from COTD.

bobkillgy from the NT a few posts up hasn't even received his yet. If it doesn't come monday then he's missed the cashback. Are COTD legally accountable? Seeing as they've sold it under the basis that you CAN get the cashback.

      • Well I interpret it as us sending it within 14 days… we can't control when they will receive it!

If there are issues, I will be demanding COTD give me the cashback directly, or giving me a full refund (and I've already used my computer!)

    • well i live in wa i haven't received it yet,so i wont be sending the cash back til 14th at least. if acer don't accept it because longer than 14 days i will be getting cotd to give the cashback, or they can issue a new invoice dated later for me.

  • Can someone please download CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and tell me what their speed is running at?

    Mine says 798Mhz???
