  • Are their batteries interchangeable with other 18V power tools?

    • It would be good if it matched this but it doesn't look like it?????

      http://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-reciproc…

      • 5 year warranty!
Good to see Ozito undercutting Ryobi One+ by a huge amount.
Obviously just a small range at this stage.
Ryobi will have to drop their prices as the Ozito range expands.

        • +1

@yoyomablue: That stuff is the power x range, the deal is not part of the range. They have a power x equivilent, skin only for $50 though - http://www.bunnings.com.au/-ozito-18v-cordless-drill-driver_…

        • +2

THE BATTERIES DO NOT FIT OTHER OZITO TOOLS. Just an important note people might want to know. To clarify this, I went to buy this drill and the cordless orbital sander. The guy at the counter said the drill is on special because its the old battery type. So it looks like every other cordless Ozito tool uses the new batteries.

If you look at the batteries on the Bunnings website, you can see the different clips.

        • @chillybags:

Ozito was bought out by another company, the Ozito Red are the new models post buyout (according to Bunnings Toolshop STaff)

        • nice!
I'm going to buy one, it will likely die within the replacement warranty time and hopefully they replace it with one from the new range if the old range gets discontinued :)

    • +7

Are their batteries interchangeable with other 18V power tools?

Always. Its just a matter of duct tape and paperclips.

    • Definitely check with Bunnings first!

I made a mistake in thinking Kogan's ones were interchangeable (tool battery $29), but the garden tool battery one was different. Had to pay $12 to return the Kogan tool battery. I am still waiting (a long time too) on Kogan to let me know when the garden tool set battery becomes available. The garden hedge trimmer gets a lot of use so a second battery would come in very handy. They do discharge somewhat if not used for a spell too. We choose the battery items as they are much lighter for me to manage.

      • Batteries are heavy.

        • When you have 3 disc prolapses and double scoliosis the lighter a hedge trimmer or grass trimmer are the better. The battery powered models are far lighter than the electric or fuel powered counterparts and therefore easier to manage for someone like me. And no, I cannot afford to pay a gardener to do these jobs for me.

    • No, not even compatible with other Ozito 18V tools I already have.

  • +1

    How much is this usually?

    • +6

It was $129 on the 20th of April this year, same on the 22nd of July 2014. Didn't bother checking earlier prices, most likely that $129 is the regular price.

Even though its their in-house brand, it's a pretty good deal - 3 Year replacement warranty, 13mm chuck, 2 batteries which are only 1.3Ah from what I can find but that's forgivable given there's two.

  • Thanks OP

What other bits and pieces would a newbie need for basic DIY?

Always need wood to drill into

        Or a nagging wife

    • +1

Good solid wall for banging your head against.

  • Great… and I just bought this same one for I think $79 last week!! shakes fist at the world Seems okay for general around the house work, have only used once but would rate it as good for general DIY.

    • +4

If you have used it already, just buy anorher one at 49 then return for a refund with old receipt.

  • +1

I bought the non-hammer version over a year ago and for the price and warranty, it's great for general DIY. Hell I even got a masonry bit and drilled holes in the house easily
    enough.

  • +1

can i use this as a general in house non hammer use with standard bits and scre/unscrew ??? sorry stupid question… will this too heavy and bulky for standard use? thingking of getting one for in house use with my upcoming new house

    • It has a torque limiter - so yes it'll be a good fit for those sort of little casual jobs. It is by no means a heavy duty bit of kit, but it'd be fine for the occasional job.

I have a corded Ozito hammer drill, and it doesn't have the torque limiting - so isn't suitable for screw driving.

The size doesn't look much different to a non-hammer cordless drill.

    • +5

In general, hammer drills are not good for screw-driving because of torque. My hammer drill skips constantly. Your question is an excellent question and one I wish I understood when I bought my drill.

      • This can set drill or drive mode? Not as good as an impact drill of course

    • Dont be fooled by voltage. The max torque on this thing is only 30nm. In comparison an 18v Dewalt cordless drill (DCD995) has a max torque of 80nm. The Dewalt has 2.7x more power than this tool even though they both have the same voltage

Just bought a couple at my local Bunnings, and one set is for my dad's birthday in 3 weeks.

Please note, there are two different versions of this hammer drill available:
    - Red colour -> has 1 hour quick charge feature, but no drill bits included
    - Green colour -> has extra set of 9 drill bits, but does not mention quick charge

    I got the green version.

    • +1

Green version is older model, the red has replaced this.

There is a very cheap green model but is smaller and a model down from this one.

    • +2

Bloke working in the tools section told me the red version is the newer model with the quick charge. Green version does not have this.

  • +1

Just bought one of these from Bunnings in Cranbourne. What a bargain, thanks heaps OP. There were three left at Cranbourne as of 10am. Just opened it up and had a play, really solid piece of kit, will definitely be excellent for general household use. Plus with a three year warranty, you can't really go wrong.

    • Did you buy red or green one ??

  • A little bit off topic, but has anyone used a bunnings gift card before? I was surprised that you had to use the full value, or within $9.95 of it then they give you cash change. I did the liquorland amex deal, went to coles, bought a mars bar and 2x$50 bunnings gift cards. Got some other stuff with the drill as well. Thanks op, my other cordless drill had just shit itself.

    • They don't use a proper giftcard system like most other retailers, however, you shouldn't have to use within 9.95 of the gift card value. That's just the value that triggers the cash change. Anything above that, you'll get giftcards. E.g. If you spend $25 using a $100 gift card, they should give you 'change' consisting of: $70 worth of gitcards and $5 in cash.

  • I have generally heard cordless drills are not as powerful as corded and hence are not much useful. Is that so?

    • +1

If you buy a proven brand like Hitachi or Makita then you have all the power you need.
Also with 5 amp hour batteries they last a long time.

      • +2

        all the power you need.

You'll still notice the difference when drilling masonry. But a few extra seconds drilling is worth the convenience of cordless.
If the job is too big for cordless, its time for the rotary hammer drill.

    • +2

You wouldn't be so quick to say that when you have to drill a couple of holes in a fencepost where there is no 240v outlet to be found nearby :D Or just want to put a few screws in, or a hole or two, but don't want to have to run an extension lead or find the nearest powerpoint.

Cordless drills, depending on the make, voltage and quality are not as powerful as their 240v counterparts - it is just not possible - as they have to take their power source along with them. However, for most domestic jobs, where you are not using the drill/driver continously, they are more than up to the task. Impact drivers are much, much better at putting screws in - instead of relying soley on torque (and thus trying to twist your arm off), they start with torque, and then swap to impact - basically hitting the screw with small but numerous impacts whilst still trying to turn it, and making it go in so much easier. I've used the current model Ryobi (greenish-yellow) and can say their 18v range is excellent, and AEGs 12v impact drivers and drill are great, and their 18v hammer drills are as much as you could want from a cordless tool.

Since this is a 18v liithium iron kit, it should do pretty much whatever you want. If it doesn't, you are in the range where you should be using 240v equipment anyway - as you are making it do a lot harder work, or are using it more frequently.

  • Why do I need this again if I already have a cordless drill? Genuine question, looking for an excuse to buy it.

    • If you need hammer function and lithium ion battery that store the charge longer than nickel cad battery?

    • It is good to have two, so as not to be constantly switching between drill bit and driver bit. Though a dedicated driver is better than a 2nd drill/driver.

    • +1

I have 2 cordless drills. The battery on the Bosch one is dead and it costs between $45-$80 for a replacement + around $10 postage. For the second one, I just could not find the charger. So went into Bunnings and picked up the least expensive hammer drill in shop yesterday, without realizing that I've got a good deal. In between, I've got the quick charge one.

  • +1

NOTE: There are 2 types - a red box which is a newer version with the one hour charger, updated drill.
or the green box which is an older version, with a 3-5 hour charger.

Same price, Same code, Simler look

Ballarat bunnings had both stacked together,

    • +2

Which one is better value for money?

      • +1

The RED & white box, better - its version 3,newer updated drill + 1 hour charger, green & white is version 1, older version + 3-5 hour charger, it's written on the bottom of the box, same price.

  • I got one in Morley W.A. but it's the one with green high lights (3hr-5hr charge).
They don't have the red ones (1hr charge), probably because the older ones hadn't sold out yet.
Maybe Balcatta store or Malaga does.
I'm not complaining for $49 anyway. There were 5 left at Morley 1hr ago.

It's okay for me because I'll use this for light duty stuff (like I did with my old 14V Ozito) and if I need to do some heavier work
then I use my Dewalt, which was bought at a great price.

My 8 year old cheap $49 black and decker stopped charging yesterday so was going to Bunnings for a replacement today anyway, luckily I checked ozbargain first. Grabbed the red box one from Bunnings Oxley, they had the green ones too but the guy said to grab the red for the quick charge. Seems perfect for around the house. Was going in to get the $199 Ryobi one+ pack (have some other one+ products) but decided for $49 this would do. Already used it a few times and it is quite good

  • Oink

  • Rang a couple of Bunnings in Sydney. They are the green version that are on sale. Will go in person

    • This! Apparently its just the green version. According to Belmont,WA store the item code 6290260 only matches the green one.

I guess other stores marking down the red as well.
      Got a green anyway.

  • got a red one from thornleigh. had plenty left. definitely a fast charger

  • Went to the Harrisdale store to check. Plenty of green ones but only two red ones left. Grabbed a red one myself so there's only one red left as of 10:30 WST.

  • Bunnings Tuggerah - NO STOCK!!

  • +2

We should really thank Masters Hardware for this price.
Guy works at Bunnings said it was a price match with a competitor, that's all he would say.

    • +1

Would have been for a different brand though. Pretty sure Ozito is a Bunnings only brand.

    • I don't think this had anything to do with Masters this time around. This was advertised in all today's metropolitan tabloid newspapers. Masters had no such advertisement.

  • Bunnings nunawading have plenty green ones on display. They have red ones but hidden in aisle behind the more expensive drill. I could see about 4 there. Def newer version and 1 hr charge.

    • Thanks for the advice. I was there just before closing, and was told they only had the green one left. Feeling disappointed, I decided to try my luck and checked behind the expensive drills on the bottom shelf. Found two red ones. I'm guessing there should still be one red and one green left first thing Sunday morning if anyone is still interested in getting one.

  • Called Bunnings Seven Hills this morning, they said they have 18 in stock. Went there to pick up and saw only about 10 left.
All Red & White box with 1hr quick charging feature.
    Model:LHD-7100

    Thanks OP!

  • At least 5 green packet ones left at Mile End, S.A. (I grabbed one) as of 30 minutes ago.

None left at Kent Town, S.A., but they said they are getting some more stock couriered over from another store.

  • +1

I went to bunnings Maribyrnong VIC and they had the red quick charge version for the same price $49

    • Much stock?

      • There were 4 or so boxes left at 2pm

  • Zero stock at all local stores nearby. Never had any stock either.

  • Bunnings Bonnyrigg has not many left. I grabbed one, they had to go somewhere out the back to grab one. It's the new fast charge too.

  • Nothing at either Launceston stores.

  • A couple left at Nerang …red version

  • Bought one from Bunnings Knoxfield, had quite a few left when I bought it this morning. They were selling the red quick charger one.

  • At least 20 green left at Cockburn central WA. Probably more. Thanks a lot OP!

  • Just got one from West Footscray, only one in the shelf, but a clerk said there was ' a tonne of stock', which would make sense since it's a brand new store.

Included in the box is a zip up carry case (with straps inside to hold the drill), two batteries, a small charging unit and the drill 'skin' itself plus a small instruction/safety sheet.

Great value IMO for $49 for occasional hobby/household stuff.

Comparing it to a DeWalt I have, it's build quality is obviously a lot worse, but I don't think anyone is going to be bringing an Ozito drill to the worksite anytime soon.

  • Anyone know when this sale finishes?

  • Out of stock Oxley Qld.

  • Is OZITO a good brand?

    • +2

good enough to guarantee for 3 years.

  • +2

Don't get the red one. The older green one is much better quality, has 2 gears, 13mm single chuck. Different factory - Ozito has had a change of ownership.

Plenty of green ones at Melville, WA.
Also, twin cutter going for $39. And remaining old stock mailboxes for brick walls down to $5.

    • The red one has the same features (as you mention) as the green one but with rapid charge

      • Ah, must have been a different model at Melville. Worth checking.

    • -Red colour -> has 1 hour quick charge feature, but no drill bits included

      • Green colour -> has extra set of 9 drill bits, but does not mention quick charge
      • Green model has charger rated at only 380mA.

  • thanks OP. Cheap and capable thing. I bought one this morning and 3 left at Geelong.

Came home fixing my gate wiht a couple of holes and screws. I dont think I can ask for more at $49.

    Body 3 year warranty

    Batteries 1 year warranty.

I like the bag most, very orgainised.

  • +3

I grabbed one. I don't know what I'm going to use it for yet.

    • +2

Yep same haha, grabbed one with no real need for it :) Got a red one from the new bunnings at Yarraville

  • This is cheaper than replacing the batteries on my old Bosch drill. Got the last green one at the new Bunnings in Collingwood.

    Thanks OP!

  • Grabbed the last green one from bunnings Midland WA around 2pm today. Asked about the red, but only 1 lady actually knew about the red and said they had like 2 and sold out early. Everyone else had excuses ranging from:
    1) the website is based in the eastern states (lol)
    2) yes that's the same number as the green (turns out both models have the same numbers)

  • Only green one on display special at The Crossroads. Found some red one on the shelf with price tag $129 and scanned $49 at the checkout, there still two red one left.

  • +2

So is it the battery or the charger that allows the faster charging?

    • For Eneloop batteries, it is the charger allows faster charging. For Apple devices, it needs both charger and device to allow fast charging.
I guess this Ozito drill battery should be similar to Enelooop battery ?

  • +1

Bunnings Innaloo WA has a heap of red and green ones. I bought mine from there.

Balcatta WA only has green ones and a heap of them.

    • How many red ones? I might go there tomorrow and take back the green one from Malaga.

    • I went at 12pm on Saturday only to be told they (Innaloo) had sold their only Red one early in the morning. (A keen Ozbargainer looked through the whole pile and found a Red one in the middle) I looked in the tool area and I could only find Green units. Are they elsewhere in the store?

They had a heap of Green ones, which I ended up picking up, but they said they had only ever received a few Red units. They even called through to Balcatta for me to try find a Red one, but as has been reported, only Green at Balcatta. There was a pile of Red Ozito drills next to the Green plie but they were a different model.

I guess I am happy enough with the Green unit as it will do the Job, always like to get a more recent model, but don't have the time to go back and swap even if they now have Red units.

      • A quick update. Had to go back for some DIY supplies today and saw that Innaloo now have plenty of both the Green and Red drills in the tool section. I guess I purchased yesterday just before they restocked with Red ones.

  • Bunnings Malaga only had about 6 green ones left. I asked if they had the newer red ones and he said I was the second person who asked about that and the newer red version shouldn't be on sale as the product code is different. But it seems people successfully scanning the red ones through at $49. Feels.

EDIT: Checked bunnings website and the newer red version is advertised for $49 and specifically mentions quick charge.

  • +1

Also wondering does quick charging reduce battery life?
Is it why battery only 1 year warranty?

  • Thanks unity.

  • Grabbed the last red one from North para Bunnings, last green one left.

  • Can anyone recommend a good masonry drill bits set?

  • Thanks Op. Purchased a red from Albion in Qld, there were at least 6 yesterday when I bought it. Couldn't see any of the mentioned green boxes.
