Xbox 360 Arcade $199 from Target/Kmart/BigW

211

So, starting boxing day, most of the big retailers (Target, Kmart, BigW that I've seen) have dropped the price of the arcade Xbox 360 to $199. I figure this is more a price change, but they do all have expiry dates, so might be for a limited time only?

mod - sirable1 writes that the Target sale ends on 6/1/2010, unlike BigW and Kmart who look like they end their price drop on 3/1/2010

  • Don't see any catalogs advertising it for 199?

    • Just got the letterbox drop this morning (QLD), so might not be on lasoo for a couple of days - but it's for real!

      • Nice! Good find.

    Says it all doesn't it.

  • Good price, these consoles come with the moddable DVD drives dont they…?

  • If my modded console gets banned, I'll just pick one of these up for Live.

This is not a 'bargain'. I don't see why this should be posted if all major retailers are dropping the price.

Because it has a start date and an end date. If, at that end date, the price goes up, it's not a price drop, is it?

my thoughts exactly, hence the post :D

I will quote the original post
"So, starting boxing day, most of the big retailers (Target, Kmart, BigW that I’ve seen) have dropped the price of the arcade Xbox 360 to $199"

If most of the big retailers are selling the Xbox at $199, why does it matter that one of those retailers has an expiry date?

Unless I am missing something, and all of these big chains are teaming up, releasing this same deal at the same time, all with the same expiry dates etc. Is there a link where the start date and end date are this 'bargain'?

Computer hardware prices fluctuate all the time. When the price of a GPU drops $50 bucks or so, that isn't considered a 'bargain'. I believe the same can be said for this.

        • As I said in the post, there is an end date, so this may be a limited time offer - sometimes referred to as a sale - just because Microsoft is doing a great deal doesn't mean it's not any less of a bargain - suppliers often supply many stores from different retail chains (computer hardware being an excellent example), and these suppliers have sales to retailers, who then pass on these sales to consumers - I hope this helps explain things a little clearer :D

@Mazley: Do you have a source of there being an end date though? That's the only pickle I have with this :p

            • -1

@Broden: It just says end date in the catalogs I sourced the Xbox pricing from

              • -1

@Mazley: Can I see it then?

                • -1

@Broden: I don't have a scanner, but I'm sure the catalogs will be in your mailbox soon - I did state in the original post there was an end date as well - I'll try and organize a picture of the catalog dates just for you though - I'm sure you'll have it by new years :P

                    @Mazley: It's okay. I believe you :P

      • That's BS

I went to HN Auburn yesterday

asked the guy to price match $193 or $198 can't remember but i had the scanned receipt from someone on whirlpool.

You know what the guy said to me?

He said the guy that allowed to sell that cheap was on crack! LOL!!!!

        EXACT WORDS!

Cheapest he would give me was $250 I said LOL! I'll be back!

        Alamodey Did you read this??

Please watch the negative voting - opinions are welcome, but use the negative vote wisely you do seem quick to use this.

And at least provide a link to where HN advertises this at $193. A quick google search yield nothing current

Thanks ozpete - good to see a bit of a crackdown on frivolous negative votes.

If I don't think something is a magnificent bargain, or if it's the 'average' bargain price, I simply don't give it a vote, or I comment (without voting) and explain that it's a normal price or if it's cheaper elsewhere. I only negative vote for things which are blatantly not a bargain or are a scam in some sort of way. That's just me, and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but some people hand out the dumbest -'ves and it only discourages bargain hunters from sharing deals otherwise.

      • the smart money would be maybe buying a 360 from HN now, then go in on boxing day with the catalog, and get there price match plus 10% of the difference…if their price policy covers consoles, which I'm not sure if it does :D

        • tbh i think its better not buy it at HN, and give your money to a company who is advertising the cheapest price - not pricematching.

          • @Davo1111: I agree - just offering it as an option for those so inclined

Broden Well it alerts us to fact that price will be dropping, and if we dont have a real need to buy now we can save money. From a Mods point of view the Deal stands

Also there is the report button if you consider this NOT to be a bargain, that way the mods get alerted to a suss deal and can make a ruling, by deleting, changing etc. Probably more effective way to get your issue looked at rather than a negative vote

i'm always giving neg votes, and this doesnt satisfy the criteria for a neg imho.

    not a bad price tbh

    post from me.
