Asus ROG G551JM Gaming Laptop (i7 8GB 860M 1TB BR 1080p) $1250 @ Futu eBay

CTREAT20

This is a previous generation laptop, main differences are the CPU (Haswell instead of Skylake (soon to be released), which isn't a huge difference in performance) and the GPU (860M instead of a 960M, which is basically just a rebadge). If you want a Skylake version, it will likely be released at a much higher price because of the AUD/USD drop.

  • Gaming laptop + 5400 RPM HDD = fail.

    • cheap ssd upgrade and leave that in as storage though…

    • Lemme fix that for you - a $1250 laptop + 5400rpm HDD = epic fail.

    • You can always replace the HDD. Add the cost of an SSD on top and it'll still be considered cheap.

    • laptop + factory 256gb ssd = $300 more
      laptop + diy 256gb ssd replacement = $120 more + a free mechanical drive

Thank god there are still mechanicals in factory computers

  • I realize most people game with a mouse— but I despise the touch pads without actual buttons!

  • Would be good to know whether this particular variant of the G551JM has the IPS panel and 4GB 860M. I believe it's just the TN panel as the NTSC gamut spec is only 45% where as the IPS panel should be 72% .

  • the recent lenovo deal was better
