    Would have got this if I didn't order the Sapphire R9 380 for US$209 (US$191 with AMEX) a couple of days back. I think the 380 is a slightly better card but this 960 has silent cooling…

      That's pretty much always the case with competing AMD cards huh? Came across the same thing researching before I got my 970. They offer slightly better performance at the cost of noise and heat…

          @TheContact: Oh. See I have got R9 280 with i5 4th gen and 8 GB RAM. I keep an eye on when gaming to see if they are maxing out. They dont. Its the GPU which makes a lot of noise due to high temps and I can live with it till the time I am getting good display. Temp. stays at 62-67 degrees on average. I play BF4 on high settings with W10. In summers heat might be an issue if you have a small room, but I am happy with the performance as a whole for my PC.

        now that does makes my feel better - cos my R9 380 has shipped already now. From my reading there seemed to be a bit of debate as to whether the 380 or the 960 was the way to go… but the 380 was the general consensus it seemed.

        I think the big problem with the GTX960 (locally at least) is the price. Probably partly the $AUD to blame here. It really is a pretty good card, for performance, temperature, noise and power consumption at 1080p resolution its great. The GTX970 is more powerful yes, but unless you are gaming at greater than 1080P resolution you probably wouldn't notice the difference in a lot of games.

          Even when the AUD was on par with the USD, we Australians were still getting in screwed with prices on hardware, hence the reason so many purchased from Amazon and the like back in those days.

          In general but more noticeably on PC hardware, we are also getting rammed from behind on price down under.

        Yes. I was going to go the 960 from my old 560ti. Made the jump to 970 instead.
        960 isn't really worth it IMO unless you have a very old card.

          Don't, you'll want more VRAM for that resolution and the GTX970 has issues with over 3.5GB of VRAM usage.

          You'd be better off with a R9 390/X - Even then, both of them would likely be a downgrade compared to your CF 7970's - even if they do have "only" 3GB of VRAM

          The CF 7970s are struggling with anything FPS, even being GHz editions. Might need to look at the higher end cards.

          Most single GPU's under the 980/290X will struggle pretty badly at that res. It's not until you get up into the Fury/X and GTX 980Ti that you would find good performance at higher settings.

          StarCraft 2 works fine though.

        For gaming yes, but not for 4k streaming or h.265 decoding.
        Apparently Nvidia add some feature to this version of Maxwell core, namely HDCP 2.2 and ability to hardware decode next gen format h.265 aka HEVC.
        Older version of Maxwell core (GTX970, GTX980) doesn't support h.265/HEVC decoding (only encoding) and doesn't support HDCP 2.2 copy protection scheme, so some protected 4k content may not be able to be displayed.

    I was gonna buy it for 4k@60fps via hdmi 2.0 but it only supports HEVC and not VP9. 4K@60fps Youtube is gonna struggle.

      I am in the exact same position and most people seem to be saying not really… better to o/c CPU or gfx a little or just hold out for now unless you really need too.

      That being said if i saw a drop in the GTX970 MSI i would be hard pressed to not buy it…

      Nope, not enough to waste this much money on.

      To get decent performance at medium>high settings, look at the GTX980/Ti or R9 390/X

      Your best bet would be to drop the resolution of your games to 1080p in the settings as it should scale perfectly on your monitor.

        The 4GB of ram would help a bit with higher resolutions, compared to the 7970's 3GB but probably not worth the upgrade. If you are or have dropped cash on a 4K monitor you should be looking at least something like a 980 GTX or higher

          Yep, i expect due to the AUD now, it is is quite expensive to get a graphics card worthy of upgrading. My OC GTX 670 seemed to play the Star wars beta fine, so im going to sit tight for a while yet.

          Well, people have reported issues with the 7xxx in Crossfire with Windows 10, apparently not as bad with 2xx. But that could be the vocal minority.

      msi 980ti. Its under 800 with amex and using 28 degrees to buy amazon gift cards. Overclocked like 15% out of the box. Otherwise the gtx 970 ssc from evga is good at under 400.
