Dimensions & Weight
Height
25.5mm (1.0 inches) – 32.8mm (1.3inches)
Width: 268mm (10.5 inches)
Depth: 197mm (7.8 inches)
Starting weight:
1.37Kg (3lbs) with 6-cell battery

Note only fast track models are currently available so you can't upgrade to the HD screen
or get the broadcom adapter.

In this model the 6-cell battery sits flush with the netbook (finally!).

Battery life is advertised at 9.5 hours, but expect about 5-7 in real use.

I personally think it doesn't look as nice as the old Dell mini and it is a tiny bit heavier and larger.

  • interesting i wonder how the n450 atom is compared to 270 and 280

    • I thought it's just the power usage, as n450 has graphics and memory control built into the chip?

      • sounds like your right ,they reckon 20% less power ad 60% less weight hmm interesting :)
        http://www.techpinas.com/2009/12/intel-atom-n450-vs-n280-n27…

interesting it looks to be using faster memory than n270 ie 800mhz now nice

The Z530 is still much better imo! :P

          • @Koonit: my thoughts exactly =)

            z530 has 4 200mhz graphic cores, and decodes h264
n450 has 2 200mhz graphic cores, and doesn't decode h264 (lower power consumption is the major plus)

@kimmik: Shame about the god awful Intel driver support though.

Got my fingers and toes crossed it'll improve before it's completely dropped.

  • This is wrong—

    "Video Card
    Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD"

    Should be —
"Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150"

If it was 4500mhd, it'd be able to play HD vids. But it cant.

excellent bargain for new gen netbook

    • i thought it was the 3150 too, but I copied the specs directly from the order page.

If you actually put it into your cart, the part numbers still show it as a 4500MHD:
      Video Card: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD MJYP5 1 [490-11927] 6

    • If you go to the "Tech Specs" tab you will find:

      "Graphics:
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150"

      • Yep.

I was quite disappointed that 3150 cannot decode h264.

In this respect, the Z530 Poulsbo is still superior.

Poulsbo could also output 19201080 VGA whereas 3150 could only output 14401050

        • Hi Kimmik,

why would you want to decode h264 on a netbook like this , just wondering am i missing out on something ;)

          • @Mikinoz: lol, i like to watch my HD vids on the go =)

the benq u121 with poulsbo plays 720p back flawlessly on its 1366*768 screen. 1080p it does with some jitter but no syncing/lagging problems.

so h264 decoding is very important to my netbook selection!

            • @kimmik: The almighty Z530! :)

            • @kimmik: Ahh fair enough :) thanks, for me i watch most of the movies i download on the big screen i couldnt watch them on the small screen, getting too old

            • @kimmik: …but if you think about it this screen can only display @ max 1024x600.
so you won't even appreciate the difference between 720p and 1080p, it would hardly even be any different from SD/DVD quality at that res.

I know it doenst help that all your source video is probably 1080p, but perhaps there is a way to downscale/transcode it so it will run?… then again, perhaps not. :P

  • Absolutely despise the design

    • just checked this Dell out at JB, with you on the look. The Asus and Acer both more appealing, better touchpad. Plus I think the Dell is a Wireless -g, and the Asus is an -n. Good Guys quoted me $466 for an Asus 1005P.

I believe this code will work on other (all?) "fast track bundles"
    ie Inspirion 11Z http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/notebooks/inspiron-11z/pd…

    • -1

Definitely working on the 11z, nice find.

    • To be specific:

    Mandatory:
    "Dell?? Eww!"
    :)

  • People what about the performance compare to n270

    • Roughly the same as the old N270/80 but memory controller/gpu are built into the one chip. So it uses less power apparently.

  • can ya hackintosh these new ones?

  • When are the Ion-equipped netbooks going to hit our shores?

    • They're already here, we have Samsung ION based netbooks in stores now. They're not cheap and they never will be.

  • Wait for the Apple tablet computer announcement tomorrow.

    • Probably won't be at sub-$400 though.

Awesome netbook for a mini hackintosh (PC with OSX installed) http://osx86sv.wordpress.com/2009/12/31/osx-10-6-2-snow-leop…

    • May be incompatibilities with 10z vs 10v. Needs to be tested…

  • Guys, I saw this at JB today… it's pretty big for a netbook. I think biggest out of all!

  • so this is the new processor , also known as pineview….

  • this is 440 through link not $390

    • wow they upped the price by $50 overnight!

i can assure you it was 499-99 just yesterday.

      • +1

price is 499 for non fast track which has no discount

  • Are you sure it's 6 cell battery? Can't see anything on the website saying that… Says there's 3 cell and 6 cell available for that model, but they don't actually give the option when I go to order?

    • add it to your cart and go to the detailed view.
      the battery shows as:
Batteries 56WHr 6-Cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

  • Which one is better
