    wow great price for a decent brand 50inch smart tv

  • Smart android. does it have an android OS so I can play the phone games on the TV?

    • Bought the Sony. Only certain games and apps designed for android TV are compatible.

      https://play.google.com/store/apps/collection/promotion_3000…

      • You can install ES File explorer and load apps from a USB drive. Most android apps seem to install, however a couple have compatibility issues-would be a good idea to hook up a wireless mouse. I've got Spotify and Freedome vpn running-need to get the apk files online. Also, the apps don't pop up in the app drawer and you must use Google voice search to find them, but ymmv (I'm using the x8500C).

        • I sideloaded a few apps onto my previous android TV nexus player a while ago, most were frustrating to use. The mouse is a good idea. This Sony TV can pair with Dualshock 3 and 4 controllers also.

          I used sideload launcher to access apps.

    Darn good price but i need a 55+ TV

    • i've had my finger on the trigger for 6 months now, indecision on whether to get: 55+ inch led tv, wait for a decent VR headset or go for the cinema projector speaker combination. At least my bank account looks healthy in the meantime.

  • why is there such big bulge at the back of the TV I wonder

    • ok went into the store and did not buy for the following reasons

      1. The big bulge at the back is where the USB ports and hdmi ports are. Not easily accessible in my opinion.
      2. The power supply is like one you would find in a laptop or the xbox 360 slim. Did not like that.

      Other than that, the picture looked ok. Bought the 48" Samsung instead for $853 Series 6 TV as per this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221776. Picture on the Samsung seemed better.

      BTW, bought from JB HI Fi. They happily matched the bing lee and Harvey Norman prices in case you wanted to know.

  • Not sure whether to haggle down http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…
    4k 55" $1686 (try to get to $1550~)

    Or wait until boxing day..

    • The link shows 55" x8000c model.
      The next up model 55x8500c was recently on sale for ~$1500 @good guys!

    • Definitely worth waiting. As hbaruas said, the X8500C (2 models above the 8000) was 1500 not long ago-a lot better than the 8000C.

    The Sony 50" is a fantastic deal for gamers. I have the model before (KDLW800b). It's fantastic and has one of the lowest input lag times in the market

    • +1

      Yep agree have that one as well great TV. Only bad thing is the loading time it takes from when you turn it on to when you can change channel.

    • I couldn't see the Hz listed for the Sony, do you know what it is?

      The Panasonic 40inch has 100Hz so I guess it would also be good for gaming? Not sure about its input lag though.

      I recently was researching TVs that are good for gaming and it is all very confusing, most manufacturers don't list all the important specifications.

      • +2

        The Sony's 100Hz. Check them out in store if you have a chance-I found the Sony to be a lot more fluid as far as motion.

        • Thanks.

          As someone mentioned already, if the 43 inch Sony was cheaper it would be perfect for me.

      • 100hz being better for gaming is a common misconception. As 100/200hz is motion interpolation it is actually disabled while in game mode as it increases input lag. If you are getting a TV mainly for gaming, save your money and buy a 50/60hz TV.

        • Interesting. Thanks. Won't a higher Hz provide a smoother image i.e. less flickering? Or is it not noticeable with gaming frame rates of 30-60fps? In which case, it's only really good for watching fast paced action, like sports?

        • +1

          @Dan83:

          100/200Hz only helps with video, in particular blu-ray/HD rips (24p) and sport. It doesn't benefit gaming at all since while using Game or PC Mode it is disabled to lower input lag.

        • +1

          @Ryballs: Great, thanks! So it's all about input lag. Will help when I finally buy a TV.

        • +1

          @Dan83:
          Yep input lag and response time is what to look for when buying a TV for gaming. Most TVs have similar response time nowadays except for OLED which is practically instantaneous.

      • -3

        Its not a real 100hz and that features useless for gaming

        This is a real gaming monitor - https://www.pccasegear.com/products/28307

    • Samsung actually have the lowest input lag out of 2015 TVs. Sony dropped the ball this year: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-test-results/input-lag

      • Not true, they didn't review a lot of the Sony TVs for 2015 (ie x95, x94, x91 etc) but almost the entire Samsung has been reviewed there. Also if you average out latency with interpolation turned on the difference becomes a 50-70ms to 70-120ms difference.

        • Sorry if you're a Sony fan but it's true. Other review websites have shown similar results. It's not that the input lag on Sony is bad or anything it's just this year Samsung is better. Regarding interpolation, no one games with it on so it's irrelevant.

        • -1

          @Ryballs:

          What? What does being a fan have anything to do with this, unless I struck one of your nerves with the truth and that's all you can say. They didn't review all the TVs and yet somehow you didn't even question that…hmmm yeah nah credibility out the window.

          As for interpolation and no one games with it on, that's already an incorrect assumption because I do and you can bet the majority of users do too because either it's too bothersome to switch modes or you want the post-processing effect because that's where your colour calibration settings are at. Also say good bye to effects like dynamic LED or HDR, why did you even buy such an expensive TV just to game on a flat picture?

          Bet you didn't even consider the real world, because you were too busy looking up white-paper specs to compare.

          tl;dr

          @plmko: You mad?

        • -1

          Okay I didn't want to respond but as people are negging my comment above here goes..

          unless I struck one of your nerves with the truth and that's all you can say.

          You called me a liar and wrote the massive comment above then I'm the one with the struck nerve?

          They didn't review all the TVs and yet somehow you didn't even question that…

          Here's another website, same 2015 results: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag I've listed my references, where's yours? Or shouldn't we question you?

          As for interpolation and no one games with it on, that's already an incorrect assumption because I do and you can bet the majority of users do

          Actually I bet the majority of gamers don't because over 50ms input lag many action games become basically unplayable. Hence why the mode that disables interpolation is called "Game Mode".

          Dynamic LED

          No such thing. I think you mean dynamic contrast? Not good for gaming as it crushes black.

          HDR

          No game console outputs 4K HDR and even if they did or you're using a PC, HDR would still work in Game Mode.

          Bet you didn't even consider the real world

          I'm the one in the real world. You're just making stuff up.

        • -1

          @Ryballs:

          You called me a liar

          When did I even… yeah OK you win :)

        • @plmko:

          According to you I'm not saying the truth which is basically calling me a liar, however it appears you are the one unable to back up your statements.

  • How do i get the Voucher??

    • +2

      Click the "$25 Off $150 Spend" link and read…

  • could you go in store and haggle some more?

  • +3

    Hmmm… wonder why the 43" Sony W800 is dearer than the 50", even though it's marked as a special as well. Chatted to a rep, they're looking into it. Looking for an Android TV for the olds, 50" is too big, but 43" is perfect.

    • +3

      Just get the 50". After a while they will be glad you talked them into it.

  • Hi Can someone share the voucher I did not get any even after I have registered and created account?? As I am seriously looking to buy this —

    Thanks a heaps in Advance

  • Thank you all - I did receive the voucher however I am only getting $25 discount on the total???

    • +5

      That's the deal buddy. $25 off min $150 spend

      • Complete brain fail. I kept reading Sony $972 down to $720 (after voucher). Guess that's what breakfast beers will do to ya.

  • Do you have to buy an adapter to wall mount this?

    • ^^ My mistake, I was looking at the KDL50W800B. The one in the deal has VESA® Hole Spacing - (400x300mm)
