[VIC] Buy One Get One Free - 1 Day Only @ Scroll Ice Cream

1190
ILoveEneloops

Hey everyone!

I just started an ice cream store at 190 High Street in Windsor. The concept originates from Thailand where we pour our secret ice cream mix onto a really cold plate, this plate will instantly freeze the ice cream whilst still allowing us to mix in fresh fruit and ingredients. As an example, with our cheesecake flavour you will see me cut a slice of cake from a freshly baked cheesecake and smash it into the ice cream.

This creates a very even mix throughout the ice cream. Best part about this is that we use 100% real ingredients, our milk is from St Davids, our cakes are freshly baked and fruits freshly picked (from the market).

To help you in your decision making I have drawn up a quick snapshot of the pricing if you get our buy 1 get 1 free offer, which means that for $3 each you can treat you and your special someone to an unforgettable ice cream experience. To put that into perspective, $3 will get you:

~1/2 an eneloop battery
~1/5 of a Skinny Wallet
~1/100 of a Dyson

So why get half a battery when you can get:

~an experience as interesting as Jar Jar Binks life
~that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you read about TA's new position
~better informed like the travel advice from Travelwiz

Also if you mention you are from Ozbargain, I will make sure that you are treated like a VIP. I will also be offering double passes to a private ice cream making session for the first five people who say I LOVE ENELOOPS.

We will also be doing pop-ups in Sydney and Adelaide around mid-December. If any of you are able to like the FB page I would be really grateful and when you come in please make sure to tell us you found us through OzB and I will make sure you get something special!

Sorry for the long post guys! Final thing, if you have any flavour suggestions please let me know, each week we pick 2 crowd sourced flavours and you will get naming rights and a week of free ice cream!

For those who haven't seen the concept before here is a link:

Freshly made ice cream

Cheers

Justin

Bit out of my way but love your blurb and promo phrase. All the best in your venture!

    • +4

Thanks Green Possum! If you do ever drop by the offer will still be available for you. :)

  • All the best Justin! Sounds yummy

    • Thats DaWeizOne, appreciate your support. :)

  • Good luck

  • Flavour suggestions:
Fresh coconut, fresh chilli and lime
    Cold filtered coffee

    • That's an awesome suggestion, we actually got a flavour at the moment where we pour a fresh espresso shot into the ice cream, makes it smell so good!

The coconut chilli is an interesting one, I will give it a try in the next few days and send you a few photos, or if you are nearby let me know and you can give it a try.

  • +1

Damn! Thought it was Windsor NSW not Windsor Vic. I'll keep an eye out for the pop-ups though :)
    Good luck!!

    • +2

Awesome! We have a space at the Eastwood Night markets.

  • "an experience as interesting as Jar Jar Binks life"

Op. Why must you remind us of Jar Jar Binks?!

    • +1

Haha my apologies, I feel like he gives me a real insight into the life of others… Whenever I have problems I go back and compare it against his…. I usually sleep quite well after.

Plus he raises such interesting topics :P

Heard of Cold Rock? There's no such thing as a new idea .. -:( .. !!

    • +10

I don't think you have seen the video… haha! I promise you that this is 100 times better than cold rock, if not I will give you your money back plus money to go buy some cold rock. :)

Personally I feel cold rock ice cream tastes like something from the supermarkets as the ice cream isn't made fresh? Ours tastes much better, and ours turn into ice cream scrolls! We also have the option to change the sugar levels and go sugar free such as stevia. Every serve is made specifically for you, the base included.

      • +1

I love that you offer better sweetener alternatives! It's quite hard to find places that can do this simple substitution.

    • +3

This is very obviously nothing like Cold Rock…

  • If I can make it down, you'll be sure to see me! A watermelon and apple ice-cream might taste interesting, too :)

    • +1

That would be awesome. Would love to see you there! :)

Good idea! because we are using fresh fruit its sometimes hard to get the flavour across… if we could work out how to get a strong watermelon flavour across.. just trying to work out how to do it naturally. Apple crumble works really really well though!

  • I live in Windsor - nice and close so will try to make it down (in between 2 birthday parties. Good luck from me too - can't have too many good icecream choices.

    • Awesome! Would love to see you there and thank you! really appreciate the support. :)

  • Sounds yummy, hopefully I can drop by the Sydney pop up :)

    • Yes, please do. We will be at Eastwood, around the 15th of Dec.

      • Not sure I can make that, but I will be visiting Melbourne soon haha :)

Is there a thai milk tea flavour? Would be cool to try some fruit mixes, I really like the mixed fruit drinks they have at Vietnamese shops e.g. durian/jackfruit/avocado (not sure it would translate to icecream though) or something like lychee/mint/strawberries?

        • +2

Haha can't wait to see you! We are working on a thai milk tea flavour.

Lychee is in a few of our flavours, including our vegan coconut base. Durian is on the cards however I am still working out how to thaw it without chasing out 3/4 of the customers due to the smell. Jackfruit is easy, however very hard to source fresh and where possible I would prefer to use fresh.

        • @Justing197: f
If you manage any of the above mentioned flavours…I'm sold!

        • @Henryneko:

We have a matcha with fresh lychee and mango, the others are in the works!

  • +3

Best of luck man, you sound like a nice and decent guy,

    • +2

Thanks man, appreciate the support. Just trying our best, customer service will be as important as awesome ice cream to us.

  • I tried these in Thailand recently great concept and the flavours somehow go together quite well. Probably won't be able to make it but best of luck.

    • Thanks mate, that's where I tried it and my gf and I had it every day we were in Phuket. haha. We have spiced it up quite a bit though, like warm brownies and toasted marshmallow toppings.

We will be open 7 days a week, come in and say hi whenever you get a chance!

  • I LOVE ENELOOPS

Do i have to say it in person or here?

    • +2

hahaha it needs to be in person to the person at the register, which reminds me I need to include this in our training session.. otherwise you will get a lot of blank stares :P

      • +2

Can't blame a girl for trying!

  • Even though I'm all the way from the westside, I might still drop by if time permits and try this out!

    • +1

Thank you for the support! We really appreciate it. Even if you can't do Saturday shoot me a PM when you come on another day and I'll organise for you to still receive the discount. :)

  • +1

A bit like Cold Rock and Nitrogenie combined but better.

Pineapple and coconut. My favourite but not many stores have it often.

    • +1

Yes, a bit of both, but a little bit more entertaining as it is like teppanyaki ice cream!

I will give that a try PVA and let you know how it turns out. :)

  • +2

I'm giving you a + for the entertaining write up and you also mentioned eneloop which is an automatic + vote anyway

    • Haha, glad you liked it mate. Eneloops become a pretty important part of your life once you start ozbargaining.

  • +1

Good Luck Justin. Right time of the year to start an ice cream business :)

    • Thank you! Haha yeah it worked out quite nicely :)

  • They look awesome Justin - I live that side of town so might check it out! I presume this is Saturday? You haven't mentioned it in your post here…?

EDIT: Just noticed that it's marked as happening in 4 days - so that's Saturday. Sorry, I spent too long reading the description! Haha

    • Haha, no worries mate. Appreciate you commenting and looking out for us. We need all the support we can get! :P

  • I've tried this in Thailand. It's amazing and delicious. Good luck with the venture, mate.

    • Thanks mate! appreciate the support.

  • any plans for a brissy pop up?

    • Yes! You have not been forgotten. Aiming for early Jan

      • great stuff :) good luck with your pop ups etc. :) hopefully catch you in Brissy!

  • Not in Melbs, but good luck!

I had this in Taiwan a few times. But I always wonder how you would make decent amount of money, unless you have like 5-6 of these metal beds to make them?

Because in general it looks like it takes quite some time to make and it's quite a bit of effort.

    • Yes, we have 7 machines, with a few more coming in. Yes, you should check out the triceps of our team members….

  • sounds like it takes quite a bit of time to make one serving and you may get a big turnout on opening day. And it looks to be a bright and sunny day. I hope it goes smoothly for you as otherwise you might get a lot of angry customers waiting in line for too long in the sun.

Good luck in your new business!

    • Yeah, it does take a while. We've got a lot of water and some treats planned… hopefully it isn't too long. Maybe we might take phone numbers and call before their ice cream is about to be made. Whilst we want to pump them out quickly making sure every ice cream is perfect is the top priority!

  • Sounds great. I work in an office on the corner of Chapel and High once a week, I'll be sure to drop in next week to give it a shot.

    • Awesome Atom C, hopefully this can become a regular ice cream destination for you!

  • So u do vegan ice cream?

    • +3

Yes we do. It's a coconut base with fresh fruit mixed into it and topped with more fresh fruit :). We are thinking about chocolate with coconut, but haven't had a chance to experiment with vegan chocolate

      • That is awesome! I will definitely come by.

  • Noo why must it be Saturday

    • Don't worry mate, if you are still planning to come down, just PM me before you do and mention this post. I'll organise the discount for you :)

      • Awesome! Would've been great if the grand opening was today xD

  • Special bonus for saying I LOVE ENELOOPS while wearing a Gibbons Legal t-shirt, maybe?

    • haha done!

  • tfw i thought there was finally an eneloop deal :( good luck with your business dude! hope summer brings you lots of good fortune :)

    • +1

hahaha sorry bro! I will make sure I give out a pack of eneloops with each ice cream or something in my next deal!

  • Up voted for the blurb alone — talk about tailoring your pitch for the audience! :)

    • +1

Hahaha, thanks mate. Took hours of research… lol jokes, all those hours of procrastination has paid off!

  • I like that you are using St David's milk, I'm a big supporter of businesses who take the time to source for good produce to use in their product. Good luck with your venture, will pop by one of these weekends when we're at Prahran Market for our weekend shop!

    • Awesome! Yes, you can really taste the difference and at the end of the day good ingredients is key. Would love for you to pop by and say hi!

  • secret ice cream mix

I feel a bit silly, but I don't quite understand… so it's not just ice-cream? How is it secret?

    • +2

Haha, well yes, I should have clarified, basically everyone has their own recipes, the one you will be trying is ours. I was using the word to make the whole concept more mysterious, but I am sure you have had good and bad ice cream. Our mix has been designed to make awesome ice cream!

      • Cool, just checking if there was a not-so-nice chem involved for the liquid phase, but I getcha now :)

I just looked at your pics, they look nice! The garnishes (is that the word?) are pure beauty :)

        • +2

Oh right, noooo haha our priority is to keep it natural and healthy. We actually don't use any egg or binding agents in our ice cream. This makes it super smooth cause no crystals form.

Yes that is such a nice word… we were calling them toppings before. Do you mind if we change it to garnishes? haha not sure if I can afford to pay a royalty yet though….

  • Flavour suggestions:

    Creamy saffron
    Custard-apple
Nuts and lollies (not the peanuts though.. referring to cashews, almonds, macadamias, and pistas) ;-)
    Brownie Bits
    Pineapple and Papaya
    Custard and Orange

    • Haha we have tried saffron though we need to use a lot to get the creaminess through. Custard apple is an awesome idea.

One of our most popular flavours at taste of melbourne was nuttella, peanut butter and tim tam smashed into the ice cream, garnished with freshly roasted macadamias, freshly baked gooey brownie, wafer and tim tam dust.

I will give all the ones you suggested a try in the next few days. The papaya one sounds interesting.

  • All the best with your new venture Justin.
Will be sure to come check it out (You're not too far from me).

    Cheers,
    Justin

    • Awesome, we got the same name? At least we won't forget each others name haha.

Can't wait to meet you. :)

  • Awesome! Can't wait to try this out on Saturday! See all you ozbargainers there :)

    • Can't wait for you all to give it a try! :)

      • Separate queue for ozbers? 😀

        • haha, hopefully we get a line… not going to count my chickens until they hatch.

  • All the Best !
    Good Luck !

    • Thanks mate! appreciate the comment. We need all the luck we can get

  • +1

Met these guys at Taste of Melbourne. Delicious ice cream, and the servings were more than generous. Will be dropping by to say hi for some weekend ice cream!

    • Awesome! Glad you liked it, we also have quite a number of new flavours as well. :)

  • Sounds great - hope you make it to Perth sometime!

    • It is on the cards, but might be the end of summer.

      • No problem - please post a Perth offer when you open!

  • I was in Thailand just last month and was wondering when this concept would hit Australia!

Are you guys going to have more than one cold plate? (edit: I see that on your facebook that you are using 3!) the biggest issue I found in Thailand was the length of time it took to create each serving, I think we waited over half an hour, yet there were only about 5 people ahead of us.

I live close enough that i'll definitely check it out next time i'm down that way! good luck with your new business :D I think it will be a huge hit!

Also for a flavour suggestion…. chai and coconut!

    • Hi Luna,

That is an awesome flavour suggestion, I will give it a try and let you know how it is.

We actually have 7 plates at the store, with quite a few more on the way. Even then depending on the number of people there could still be a wait. Please do come down! We really value any feedback and support!

  • Can't wait! We'll be one of the first in line! I'd love to see a tiramisu with cranberries and pistachios!

    • +1

Haha can't wait to see you Anastasia. We have been working on it, the flavour is easy to get through, however the texture still needs a bit of work! We never thought to top it with cranberries and pistachios though so will definitely make this your flavour of the week when we perfect it! :)

  • Good luck Justin!
Would love to try passionfruit. Bit busy this weekend, but might try to pop in next weekend.

  • OK, I'm down, OP. Not sure if I can make it on the 5th as it's my little one's birthday, but will try. Any chance of a cheeky rain-check?

    Regardless, all the best!

  • Suggestions of ice cream flavor!
-vanilla/chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, popcorn and pistachio nuts

  • -Avocado ice cream with pistachio nuts
-pineapple ice cream with sweet coconut gel drizzled with condensed milk
-vanilla ice cream with chips and bacon bits

  • Cola ice cream

  • Just bought two-for-one. Had Nutter Butter Peanut and Coco Lychee ones. They were great - really tasty and innovative serving. Didn't mind waiting either, I liked watching the process. The service seemed a little disorganised, as no one was taking orders when I arrived, but as it was the first day in the store I can't judge too harshly. Hope it goes well.

  • Couldn't make it on Saturday as was at a lunch reception but I think there's plenty of opportunities this summer! All the best with this new venture, haven't tried this style of ice cream so keen to give it a go :)

  • Hi Justin
When & Where will the Adelaide pop up be?
Would love to try your creations, also another vote for Pineapple & Coconut, or Pine Lime but not sure how fresh citrus would work.
    Regards
