Z506 are a great price. I've got a set in my workshop and they are brilliant

    • How do you set up? Plug sound sources into the sub and Every speaker plug into the sub?

      JB has it $149
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/accessories/logi…

      • +1

That's exactly how I set it up. I plug in aux cable from my phone to aux in on the sub. Quality bass and volume is amazing (for the price)

    • I Used to have the Z506 i personally hated them. While they made great thumping bass was extremely muddy.

Also two of my units broke and volume not even quarter the way up.

      Not bad for the price.

      I now own Logitech Z623's

    • You dont get brilliant sound for $10 a speaker

  • The SanDisk 32GB are $27 for 1, but then you add 3 for $36?!.. logic

  • Anyone know if these speakers would work for a projector?

    • Should have checked the page. Says they work for TVs

      • No reason why it shouldn't as the sound would be coming from another source such as computer with a 3.5mm cable.

        • Yea. My projector is cheap and a little buggy so I'll try it today. The other big thing is the projector placement

  • The new Type Cover is a huge improvement over this one. Buy it instead, even for the price differential.

  • Morning all
Can I use SanDisk usb to make my laptop faster? I have a lenovo with 4gb ram..i heard with usb 3 you can use it as flash drive to make laptop faster

    • +4

      Short answer is no
      Long answer theoretically

    • +1

      No.

    • You're probs thinking of ReadyBoost. Not as effective as real RAM, but it can speed things up a bit if you have a slow hard drive.

    • +8

Switch your HDD for an SSD. That will make it faster. $100 for a 240GB.

    • -2

      Haha,you are funny :)

    • Yes - ReadyBoost definitely helps - for tasks involving random (in contrast to sequential) access in systems with little RAM (eg. 1-2GB) and slow hard-disks (eg. laptop HDD). Besides speed, it will also reduce read-access to the hard-disk, thus reducing its trashing - useful if computer is writing at same time (eg. simultaneously playback and recording using Windows Media Centre).

Windows performs a speed-test prior to allocating space - if USB access is slow, it won't allow stick to be used for ReadyBoost. With a viable USB stick and a spare USB port, ReadyBoost is free performance improvement.

      • Thanks mate so basically since my laptop has a Hdd and a 4gb ram …the fast usb will b a readyboost…and my laptop will boot faster ???

        • … i heard with usb 3 you can use it as flash drive to make laptop faster

          … boot faster ???

Read the bit about 'random access' above (also, 'cache' in general.) ReadyBoost is free (as in beer) to try and see for yourself.

  • Stupid naming system that Alcatel uses.
The Alcatel Pixi 3 4.5 is a rubbish phone, but the Alcatel Pixi 3 4.5 (4G) is a reasonable phone for the money. The 4G model with Optus is quad core, 1GB RAM and 8GB storage with a good range of 3G and 4G bands for $49.

    • True…as a main phone..but these cheapy smartphones are great in the kitchen to listen to internet radio…my fave is the ABC radio app…part live radio, part podcast facility. Always something to listen to while cooking or breaky, esp. if you lime discussion, talk back, current affairs etc. I got a smartphone for $9 once at woollies (voda smart mini 4) which makes a great kitchen radio streaming off home WiFi…often the speaker is loud enough.. If not then permanently attach to am old Bluetooth or wired speaker and keep permanently on and on charge..problem solved. Hide everything behind (or IN) a nice retro facade (like many cheap radios these days) and w.a.f. taken care of also.

  • I just picked up a set of z623 Logitech in store for 137 down from 229 so there are other bargains available that aren't online.

    • Looks like office works is matching that price too.

    • +1

137 for Logitech Z623 is really a norm price, 229 is a rip off. :)

  • I so didn't want to give in to HN but so many deals!!

What are these Sandisk drives like in terms of speed? Those Z506's worth the coin? I'm on my way and my wallet is in front of me , help!

    • +2

For 58 the z506 is definately worth the price. The sandisk 118 read and 47 write

Just be aware of when you are moving large files the usb gets quite hot.

  • +2

I used to own a z506 then the sub exploded so I immediately looked for an alternative. Then I found a set of second hand z2300 for fity bucks. They sound much better than the z506 both treble and bass the satellites have so much more detail and the bass is louder and deeper and fires accurately. I have yet to hear my z2300 sub distort. My friend picked up a z623 later and we did a side by side comparison.
    Z2300>z623>z506

Dont get me wrong though the z506 can seriously shake your house. Just make sure you dont turn your sub too high or it may distort at high volumes. Hope this was useful

    • Thanks man. Don't need the house shaken, just need some quality sound. Will that do?

      • +2

Yep. Just keel in mind if you are using that for a small room the sub cant show its potential as much

        • +2

Ok cool. Too cheap to pass up I think for what I need, and to think I didn't know what I needed until this post ;)

        • +3

          @4892:
Just a useful tip that I learned the hard way make sure all cables are plugged securely into the sub before you turn it on. I had the control pod half plugged and when I turned it on… pop!

        • +3

@Bacons: Thanks. Now the challenge is finding a store with stock!

Huzzah! OW has them for more https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/logitech-z…

          5% price beat here I come! :P

        • +1

          @4892:
          Good luck ;)

        • @Bacons:
          Successfully Priced matched! $55.10 :D
They seem to be busy with all the clueless parents after the back to school items, didn't even check if Harvey Norman had stock.

    • +1

      Z2300's are king!
I've had a set since 06 still going strong, bought another set second hand off ebay for $70 in 09 and also still going strong.
2 sets hooked up together is ground rattling!

  • Is the Sandisk offer available in-store? I can't use my gift card online :-(

    • +1

If you show them the website they will match it if it doesn't scan up. Done it many times.

      • Good to know. Thanks mate.

    • It didn't scan at the store I went to. I told the guy that the online store had the deal and he said no problem he'd charge at that price before I could even show him the page on my phone.

  • I wish the SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB USB2.0 had a similar deal

  • +1

Those compact USBs seem a better idea than the thumb size thumbs, sticking out, waiting to get bumped and damage something.
It's not as if they have to be big when micro SDs manage to fit as much and be tiny.

    • +1

I keep a couple in a "pill container" on my keyring. These are the perfect size for it.

      • +4

Are they a bit hard to swallow though?

        • +2

Less so at $12 a pop.

  • Cheers OP! Got a couple of sets of Z506s as gifts. SO cheap!!

    • What do you foresee them being used for? PC or TV?

      • One set will be used on a PC and the other just as 2.1 on a Digital Piano. Nothing special required fr either application.

      • One set will be used on a PC and the other just as 2.1 on a Digital Piano. Nothing special required fr either application.

        • I have both. I'll try it out today!

  • Points Rebate(nearly 2%) for Hardly Normal from RewardCentral, probably the only place to earn something back from online purchase.

  • +1

I hate f…g Harvey Normans, went to 2 stores both said no stock of the Sandisk 3 packs, get home both shops showing stock :(

    • Happened to me before with something else, I thought it was weird so I ordered online but then was able to pick it up at my local hn…

  • Thanks OP couldn't find a HN within 75k's of me who had Z506 stock so went to local Good Guys & they price matched.

  • The Sandisk or Samsung? Which is better value/ quality?

    • +3

Usually Sandisk is better. But for the recent 2 deals:
      - Samsung - metal casing is stronger
      - Sandisk Ultra Fit - gets very hot after 1-2 minutes of large file transfers
May be Samsung is slightly better if you do not mind it is bigger than Sandisk Ultra Fit

      • From what i can tell from reviews the 64gb sandisk ultra are much worse than the 32gb ones when it comes to overheating

      • +1

I got the Samsung one yesterday and believe me it gets really really hot in use. Like almost too hot to touch after about 3 min of transferring. I guess the metal housing is not just for show but is there to act as a heatsink. I could only get 139 read and 61 write from it, not bad but hardly high performance. I'd imagine the heat issue with the Sandisk would be worse since it doesn't have a large metal heatsink to help it cool. Interestingly the 5 year warranty on the Samsung packaging was covered with a sticker so I don't know if you'll get the full 5 years. The Sandisk should come with 5 years though.

    • Ultra fit if you need 3. Otherwise the samsung looks pretty swish. For the record, ive never had an issue with my ultra fit.

  • Picked up 3 sandisk ultra fit at liverpool HN and the sexy samsung for my keychain, heaps of stock. Officeworks liverpool has plenty of z506 so could probably get an extra 5%.

  • Got the Sandisk USBs from QV Melb CBD, plenty left

  • Got the speakers from OW with a price beat.much easier for returns and warranty from there

  • Thanks got 3 SanDisk for $36, Rundle Mall. Still some left, a guy looking to buy one heard my discussion with the cashier and now has 3!

  • How do you add 3 Sandisk to cart for $36 ?

Clicking "Add to Cart" then changing quantity to 3 didn't work for me - total was $81

Same for clicking "Add to Cart" 3 times

    • Just add it 3 times, discount will show at bottom of Cart page

    • Just go to HN and show them this offer. They should match the price.

  • I bought 3 of these $81 was charged. The funny thing is that there is a red colour message saying Add 3 to cart for $36!
Don't forget to double check the total price before you actually pay on online….

I am requesting partial refund for the incorrect charge at the moment.

I asked the refund on online chat, the sales guy said he doesn't have a power to refund but he will raise a support ticket. :/

    • Really? It said that for me too but at checkout there was a discount of $45.

      • Yes I also saw the discount message but after I paid it by paypal, I seems like it was only a message of discount and $81 was charged in fact.
Online chat support guy confirmed me an error and raised a support ticket.

  • Bought this for $79 last week at JB. Still BNIB. Should I return it and get the Z506 instead (assuming surround sound is not really needed)? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/accessories/logi…

  • +1

these sandisks are both cheap and fast having picked one up for $14 or so bux other day via a deal here.. (believe user MMD recommended this ebay deal which was about half price of officeworks equivalent..
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-32GB-CZ43-Ultra-Fit-USB-3…)
but as people have mentioned DAMN they get really really HOT assuming i have my product codes and devices right… when it's in my macmini it's hot really hot then i put it into the panasonic ST60 50" (thx ozbargain $994 deal via appliances online price matched from dicksmith a few xmases back still an AWESUM TV)
i usually use a nas.. .but my zyxtel setup has some glitches at moment so gone back to a quick torrent/usb solution and had this drive sitting around and the sandisk it is both really fast for price and really hot…
assuming sandisk have tested it so it doesnt burn or blow up :)

  • If anyone is wondering whether they should get this particular phone (Alcatel Pixi 3 4.5), please keep the following in mind…

    1. It's rather slow. It is very noticeable after a few hours of use.
    2. Camera is poor.
    3. Android is stuck on 4.4.2 (at the moment at least). No more official updates are expected.
    4. There are NO roms for this version - regardless of what the spam sites might say. XDA does NOT have a rom for this. The current roms on XDA are indeed for Pixi 3 version 4 but not version 4.5 with the model 4027a. I have personally attempted to install recovery AND the supplied ROMS but for some bizarre reason, this version of the phone is not compatible. Other uses have noted the same for this model. (Official XDA thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-alcatel…).

As mentioned, get the upgraded Optus version instead.

  • Picked up the Sandisks from Harvey Norman Moorabbin this afternoon. Plenty left as they're not marked as being on special..

  • Thanks OP. Price matched z506 @ Officeworks for $55.10 delivered.

  • Thanks OP, picked up the SanDisk Ultra Fit deal at Melbourne QV at lunchtime today.

  • Thanks OP, got the SanDisk Ultra Fit Deal.

Although a warning to those who have bought it or are planning to buy it: They get hot really quick.
After around 10 minutes of copying files, I disconnected it and I could barely touch the USB.

This MAY damage your USB ports. I would definitely not leave this in my computer for long periods of time.

This also might explain why they're 3 for $36.
