    Nevermind, OP has changed the site to a slightly more reasonable price. Still, the 32GB is 1999 RMB (~$426 AUD) direct from Xiaomi China. Those of you with relatives in China should probably make use of them and save a few bucks. Once stock levels stabilise and the initial rush dies off.

      generally resellers sell the phones for 30-40 bucks up from the RRP, reputable places are vickmall and banggood among others. but you should never pay 800 for this phone, thats just retarded

        I don't think it's launched in Taiwan yet. Doesn't appear on the Taiwanese website. Could be because I'm not using a proxy though. Going by the previous Xiaomi releases, stock will be pretty thin for the first month or two. Xiaomi are copying Apple in more ways than just the phone design and UI.

      The G5 is much sexier but. Removable battery, SD card slot, and packing all the extra cutting edge goodies.

      I already have my heart set on the G5 — after owning a G2 for so long I'm sick of cellphones with no SD card expansion.

        Yeah it is a bit odd the lack of card expansion. Other than that the phone looks like a great deal. Very high screen body ratio too which is important to me.

          Improves read speed and battery life. I can't remember where the comparison was but having a phone that doesn't use efs 2.0 off internal storage is not as fast. I would rather 128gb internal than plug in micro sd.

          In layman's terms it means 4G reception may be worse than that of a phone with a wider band range.

          I.e. on my current China droid 4G is great in the office and at home, but terrible if on a moving train.

    Surely you will find a lot of price variation, it all depends upon when do these websites actually start sending the item.

    There are a couple of trusted suppliers on Aliexpress who start shipping the item from today itself but obviously their price is slightly higher.

    This is a great phone. An equivalent Samsung will be about double the price. If you are in China, you can buy it for $A100 less. Still a great deal. Remember buying from China, the phone does not include Google Play, but most people here are comfortable/able to install Play Store anyway. Buying from reseller like Oppomart will come with Play Store and multi language installed.

    Avoid xiaomi phones if you wish to install another rom like cyanogen mod. They have locked the boot loader in the newest phones/updates, and in order to unlock so you can install another rom, you need to send them a message e.g. bullshit such as: you need to unlock because phone is bricked (in chinese). It takes a week to a month to get the SMS, which confirms they will allow you to unlock, and even after getting approval a lot of people can't get past 50% during unlock process.

    So to summarize, in PC speak, xiaomi have stopped users from installing a different variant of the OS on hardware you have purchased with cold hard cash. Imagine you had a laptop that came with UBUNTU, and you hated it and wanted to install another version of linux, or even windows and the manufacturer said sorry you need to contact us for approval and even after approval it may not work.

        You got a good point.

        Personally I don't touch any apple products. I don't touch windows phone either. The main point is, with apple you know what you are getting. With Xiaomi a big majority of people buying these phones who don't live in china, buy it and plan to install something more western friendly as its android. Even without installing a non-xiaomi rom, I doubt Xiaomi has released a global (english friendly) rom for any of their NEW phones.

        Bottom line Xiaomi priority is their chinese market, they don't care about people purchasing from other countries. I provided the above info, so those Australian planning on buying it and not using the xiaomi rom which is currently tailored for china, AVOID. I am providing info so that the Australians who want to install another non-xiaomi rom, don't waste their cold hard cash supporting xiaomi, and these chinese resellers, only to find out later, xiaomi new policy.

      I have a Quad HD phone, I'll be honest 1080p is fine, it's really hard to tell the difference. Full HD will save you battery.
