SEO Linked ads... to the company I work for

I work for an Canadian/American company, not a household name but we're a leader in what we do. Often at times I find it easier just to google our company so I get the right dept. in US or Can or the EU… or I need web resources on our stuff and google does that best.

Thing is google has taken that and on ozbb and other sites, I get bombarded with our own products… "Hey Tony we know you been searching for widgets, we got a great deal on widget XYZ only $299… from company Widget.com, leader in Widgets"

Hey google, I have three of them things brand new in the boot of my car. In fact my email is [email protected]. Shut the hell up.

I wish there was a way to control this? I find it ironic now that every website I go to, including this, is reminding me of where I work, like literally.

  • Install adblock?

    • But then I miss out on all those other useful ads and I wouldnt want to deprive people of their rightful ad revenue.

      • Not to mention missing the chance of being extorted via ransomware by merely loading the ad in your browser, who wouldn't want ads I ask you sir!

  • Google ads should respect the do not track header

    Also, https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662850:

While you can’t remove ads altogether, you can remove unwanted ads. In Google Search and Gmail, you can block ads from specific advertisers. On sites that are part of the Display Network, you can choose which interests or demographic details are used to show you ads and, in some cases, “mute” ads that you no longer want to see.

  • Also note that while OzBargain uses Google's AdX to match up ads, not all the ads are coming from Google directly. Other buyer-side networks might be trading on Google's exchange. Usually you can just click on the AdChoice icon on the top-right corner of the ads to change the setting to remove yourself from re-targeted ads.

External websites may still track you with cookies, but Google will keep your searches private.
