Now I need to figure out WHY I bought that thing… :-)))

You bought that thing because it is cheap. Never mind what it does :-)

Now I need to figure out WHY I bought that thing… :-)))

Better on your shelf than theirs.

  • Apart from iPhones with non-expandable storage why would we buy one of these? Storage is so cheap now? Seriously though isn't this old redundant tech?

    • +1

Also iPads, and other tablets without memory card slots.

We have two iPads and a nexus 7, so I got one of the usb stick versions of this (SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive). Use it for playing movies and tv shows on our tablets.

Would grab one of these too, but can't be arsed going out to Ringwood!

      • "can't be arsed going out to Ringwood!"

        Pun intended?

    • +1

I bought one for my iPad as it has limited storage

  • I have the 64GB USB key version of this which I think is the better option if you are looking for portability. An additional benefit I have discovered is being able to transfer files to my secure work laptop via wifi as the USB ports were blocked.

I have written about what you can do with this type of device in past posts but one other benefit which seemed to resonate was the ability to store your comics on it and a comic book reader on your iPad to read them.

  • Beware, the 32GB version does not support NTFS, even if you use a large microSD card.

    • You can possibly use those programs that format high capacity cards to FAT32…

      • Not sure about this device, but on the flash drive version of the SanDisk Connect, only the 64gb one can accept 64gb+ cards (using exFAT). Even though all models use removable microsd storage that can be easily replaced, the 16gb and 32gb versions cannot take larger cards, because the flash memory controller used on the lower models doesn't support exFAT (nor NTFS). This is a hardware issue that can't be fixed by firmware.

Not sure whether this device is similar, but I wouldn't be surprised.

        • So the 32gb would be fine with SD cards up to 32GB though (but not higher)?

        • +1

          @fookos:

Actually you CAN use cards higher than 32gb, but they will have to be formatted in FAT32 using software on PC. But once formatted to FAT32, it should work. (If it's the same as the SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive).

What I said above was slightly incorrect: it's correct that the 16gb and 32gb versions of the Flash Drive do not support exFAT (only the 64gb version does), and thus they will not support 64gb+ cards natively. But I believe that larger cards will work if reformatted to FAT32 (using a PC). Obviously the 4gb+ filesize limitation of FAT32 will remain.

But as I said, this is for the SanDisk Connect Flash Drive…I have no idea if the same applies to the Media Drive (the product in this post).

          Thanks for responding :)

Nice - just grabbed one - still a good price with shipping applied compared with elsewhere, and I will use it when we do car trips with the kids.

I note it has an SD expansion slot to extend the inbuilt 32GB so it should be a winner :)

    Thanks OP.

This is one of those things you think you won't use, but, sometime in the future you will have a quiet little chuckle that the 20 bucks was very well spent. The SD expansion slot did it for me and reviews are pretty good.

        Heres good meme…

  • Thanks OP! Ordered 2 so the shipping charges won't hurt much. Will give one to a friend who's kid needs to watch a lot of videos while they driving. Would save them lots of mobile internet i assume. ;)

  • Can I use this with chromecast and iPhone?
I.e play movie wirelessly on iPhone and mirror to tv?

  • Thank you heaps OP, been looking for one of these for ages

  • I don't know what use for this one but I got one. What am I doing? LOL

I was doing my weekly grocery and dropped by camera house in my local area just to ask how long it may take. She said roughly 1-2 weeks wait in case anyone is wondering.

    • Was just thinking about that. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Is that for collection in store as not been contacted to pick up yet seems a whilr to wait?

      • Yes pickup in store one was my query. Wouldn't be surprised if delivery would be similar time frames

    • I can confirm that the salesperson at Broadway Nsw said the same thing to me today

  • Folks, the page has gone now but, from memory, it did say 'one to two weeks' for item availability beside the product image.

  • Ordered mine on the weekend, notified around 5pm yesterday that it was ready for collection, collected today. Not a bad little device for $20 - I mainly plan on using it to back up photos from my camera's card while I'm out and about.

    • What store did you collect from?

    Got this today

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent purchase of the Sandisk Wireless Media Drive 32GB Connect through the Camera House website.

We have received an unexpectedly high volume of orders for the Sandisk Wireless Media Drive 32GB Connect over the past few days. Although we had adequate stock for this item unfortunately due to the high volume of orders we received we will be unable to fulfill your order.

    We sincerely apologise about this.

As a replacement, we would like to offer you an upgrade with either the Sandisk IXPAND 32GB Flash Drive (compatible with Apple) or the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive 32gb (compatible with Android). These models perform all the same functions as the original item that you ordered, the only difference being that they are not wireless. These items will be supplied at no additional charge.

Please let us know which alternative product you would like us to send.

Alternatively, if you would like to cancel your order please let us know and we will issue an immediate refund.

We are expecting the stock to arrive into our Sydney warehouse within the next 14 business days.

We cannot apologise enough for any inconvenience caused by this.

    • I got the same email. Ordered mine on the weekend too (like FaultyTaco), so feel pretty pissed off. All the are offering is an OTG USB drive….no WiFi, no expandable memory. That's a crappy replacement offer I will not be taking up!

Considering the deal was going for 5 or 6 days (from memory), surely they should have had enough to go around.

Do I have any recourse? Is this allowed?

      • Pretty sure they can't do that.. might get on to the ACCC tomorrow

        • Doesn't the offer of a refund cover them?

        • they're offering full refund, or the choice of an alternative product…there's not really anything more you or the ACCC can ask for, unfortunately.

  • I got this too.

    What should i do?

    • What should i do?

depends entirely on what you want.

if you bought this for accessing files on ios, and only need to access files one at a time, the Ixpand may be suitable for you (if 32gb is enough). on a quick search, $20 seems like a good price for the 32GB Ixpand.

if you bought this for accessing files on a micro-usb device, you're better off getting the refund, as the Dual 32gb looks like it's available cheaper.

if you need wireless for access from multiple devices, or need more than 32gb, then refund.

  • I popped into the store yesterday and the rep told me since it was an EOFY sale and lot of orders so there is no view on the ETA. It has been close to couple of weeks already so….wait is the only option.
BTW, I haven't received the apology email yet.

  • Anyone got them yet, order on the Friday of seeing it posted on ozbargains and did see some orders canceled from others on here.
All i have had is my order email thats it not an email to say be a little wait or anything.
Even emailed them a few days ago for an update still no reply.
What sort of business do they run if they cant tell you whats happening are they just going to keep the money a little longer and then refund or are we going to get the items?
Be great to even know whats happening im just hearing it from others on here.
Come on its not hard to notify customers

    • I received a call early last week and picked it up in-store last Thursday. Have you tried calling the store?

  • ?

  • Arrived today. Tiny little bugger. Will try it out tonight. Thanks again OP for posting. Will be very handy when travelling with the kids.

  • I ordered 2 which was to be sent to wa since purchase its been few days short of a month.
I drive 30km to pick up and only one, girl said i think they messed up i noticed they tried to give me a flash drive but never took it as it was 2 media drives i ordered.
What is the flash drive about? And good or media drive better?
They said they try and locate one for me,i said well its took a month to come and one of them is not what i ordered and not only that i drove 30km to pick up.
They took my address and said they send one once they get one.
    When?
They online did not even say look we dont have two but one and a flash drive is that ok.
So where do i stand here are they obliged to get me one or just make and excuse about none to get.
Girl said they dont make the media drives anymore lol plenty of places still selling them.
What should i do dont know nothing about the flash drive one so never took and its not what i ordered.
Is the flash drive one the same price elsewhere as media one is as media one is way more other places.
