  • Wasn't there an Open Source Software that did just this? Called Synergy

    • This is the same thing / people. They switched to a paid model for the compiled binaries vs donate. I still think they have the source available by Git hub (possibly a version or two behind the current release) - but seriously what % of people will be able to build a working exe.

If you can't afford it, don't pay for it. Although I remember when Synergy was a free (and buggy) app, it's now a company with real full-time staff and real support (and a lot less bugs). If you use the software & can afford to, consider paying for it. (and it's on sale! Woohoo!!)

Its still free, they just don't advertise the older free version.
I'm using the free version on my windows and apple computers and didn't need to compile anything. Look for version v1.4.18.

They are doing A / B testing for their pricing.

The link OP received is version A, which offers $4 and $12 US: http://symless.com/flash-sale-a

    I received the version B, which offers $3 and $8 US: http://symless.com/flash-sale-b

And the Basic/Standard version is actually being offered free here: https://stacksocial.com/sales/free-mac-bundle-airradar-by-ko…

    It's software….

The Standard addition was a giveaway on Thanksgiving last year (Nov 24th). Its likely that the same deal will return again this year, if you don't mind waiting out a little longer.

For the sake of $3, it probably depends on how OZB you are.

  • Sending unencrypted keystrokes does not seem like a good idea to me. I suppose your private network should be secure, but most people use the keyboard to type credit card numbers and passwords.

It's really best suited to setting up new systems and troubleshooting purposes. Definitely don't use it for your office PC and work laptop haha…

    • It hasn't been unencrypted for a long time.

      • Back in 2007 you could use RC4… still I wouldn't trust the software to be actually secure.

    • I haven't typed a credit card number in years. pats Lastpass

More so.. why would you type one to a remote screen?

If you only need to share between Windows machines I can strongly recommend you use Mouse Without Borders (done by Microsoft Garage). I found it much better than Synergy.

    • Synergy worked fine with 20 computers and one mouse for fun years ago.

Yeah the Microsoft offering does have some limitations. I can't use it because I have a win2k machine in my quiver.

Have been using synergy daily for years at work, and it works really well. I'm using the latest free version.
