    Thanks to the OP for posting. Been looking to get my hands on a 2nd one of these, and this is a price that can't be passed up.

    Only annoyance is the process you have to go through to order from their outlet. My first time, chat based seems like an inconvenience.

    What are the uses of a second monitor if I am not really studying anymore and just working now.

    Have 2 at work and is amazing but not sure if can justify 2 for home.

    Using computer mostly for gaming at home and youtube etc.

        Not really a good idea without fast internet haha, but I alt tab and thats pretty fast which I kinda have to do anyway to reach the second screen whilst gaming in full screen.

      Things to look at

      Panel type, specs etc
      Quality of build
      Colour accuracy
      Stand (height,tilt,rotate,swivel)
      Inputs
      Warranty

      Dell excels in a lot of those areas, of course you generally pay more though

      Hard to tell without knowing the exact panel in the HP, but Dell Ultrasharps have better connectivity (2 HDMI, DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort), adjustable stands (tilt, swivel rotation), USB ports and VESA compatibility.

      Dells are also generally considered pretty high quality in general, have a nice design, and have a warranty for dead pixels (though I'm not sure if that still applies to the outlet).

      Screen specs look the same, but I'd go the Dell hands down for connectivity (DP is a must for me) and it has a much better stand and vesa compatibility.

      The most important thing is colour accuracy IMO. While the Dell has decent specs, it's not designed to be a gaming monitor, it's designed to look good and be high quality.

        Also, the Dell is designed to be reliable and last.

        I've had 2x of these HP IPS monitors, and their service life was both <9mths. When you rely on your monitor for work, you don't want it to break down during the middle of a day.

        Would never buy a HP monitor again as a result.

          A technical answer would mean talking about viewing angle, response time, resolution etc.

          With a TV, the viewing distance tends to be fixed. You don't want to move the couch, so bigger is generally better.
          Also, larger viewing distance is good for more seats watching.

          In this case its more about feelings. A bigger screen feels better for games. Same as big speakers :-) Gaming with headphones just ain't the same.

      I have 3 x u2414h monitors for nvidia surround and absolutely love them, but if I was starting over I'd probably just get a single larger screen. Its a tough call because this really is an amazing monitor for the price. If you do pull the trigger I'm positive you will love it!

          1440p might be overkill if it's just casual use. What do you define as 'casual gaming'? Solitaire? Less intensive games like LoL and DOTA, or indie titles? Or your typical AAA shooter? If it's the latter, you'll be wanting a better GPU that can push the extra pixels.

      If it's 1080p, then the pixel density wouldn't be that great on a 27 inch monitor. You're better off getting it at 1440p or maybe a 24 inch 1080p.

      Daisy-chain needs DP, not hdmi. For a second external monitor, you'd needs a USB video device.

      Then you get a formal quote sent with your name, which you need to formally accept or decline, and then give payment method. You can pay via web chat.

    As i mentioned last time its extremely easy to overclock with custom timings. I did say 75hz but I checked again and I'm only at 72hz but still can't complain about the extra Fps. If you are going to use these for gaming I'd reccommend checking google for u2414 overclocking results. YMMV

      As far as I know (I have several purchases from dell outlet including "as new" and "refurbished") the as new were ordered but for whatever reason cancelled or finance wasn't received, you would receive a NEW product, but remember outlet only gives 1 year warranty as opposed to the 3 years you would get normally

    Can I daisy chain 2 of these monitors using a macbook air with only a mini display port and 2 usb 3.0 ports?
    I have check the graphic can handle 3 monitors "# of Displays Supported ‡ 3" from intel website.

      It depends on the year model of your MacBook Air. Daisy chaining apparently works with MacBook Air 2012 and newer. I have this monitor, a 2011 MacBook Air and bought a second monitor in an attempt to daisy chain but it only mirrors the desktop and does not extend the desktop with my 2011 unfortunately. Hopefully you have a 2012 or newer? I can't wait until next week to get a new MacBook Pro so I can daisy chain. I was almost going to buy a Mac Mini soley for daisy chaining but they will likely be discontinued or updated next week?

      I forgot to add that you don't need to use usb ports for daisy chaining, you just connect the second monitor display port to the first monitor display port out, easy!

    I've got the U2415 (16:10 version of this) which I've been quite happy with. Other than the fact that a bunch of games don't support 16:10 natively (first world problem). So for $211 I can finally get rid of pesky borders and other issues with not having 16:9 1080P.

    Actually the other thing that shits me is the temporal dithering. But otherwise they're solid monitors.

      Brand new is almost twice the price through Dell. You could just buy a replacement in a year if this breaks and get another one.

      I've had my 2007WFP for like 10 years with no issues. But of course these things can randomly break so that's no indication.

        true, but if you buy from Futu during a 20% off you can get it for about $280, 2417 is about 320. Dead/bright pixels can show up anytime. Fortunately for me it took at least 5 years before bright pixels ever showed up on my 2407, and theyve fixed themselves but just luck i suppose

          Yeah, I got my more expensive U2415 from one of those sales. Then got annoyed at the 16:10 thing for games (awesome for everything else). So now I forked out another $200 for one of these. Could have gotten better deals on other brands, but I've liked all the Dells I've used and have had shit experiences with other brands.

      You might be able to extend the warranty, I was told it's possible for a Latitude. Not sure on the pricing, but if it's low it might be worth it.

      As New are orders that were either cancelled, or shipped out to a customer who either did not open the box or decided to return the order without ever using it. As new items do not have any cosmetic damages.

      Refurbished items on the other hand have been used and then returned to Dell, put through the production process, and then again retested to ensure they meet all original factory specifications. Refurbished monitors may have some observable cosmetic blemishes, but they will not affect performance.

    If it was just a power supply swap out then fine, but if it was screen issues it can be subjective.

    So basically as new means it's actually brand new and unopened but they have to call it as new because it's a customer return who decided that they didn't want it although unopened. Sounds like $211 for what is essentially a brand new Dell 23.8" Ultrasharp monitor is a real bargain to me. That's worth paying the extra $22 over refurbished.

      Pretty much this. I think it's a company order that was cancelled (for instance they wanted a different model). I don't think anyone knows for sure though.

    Created an account to warn fellow bargainers. Bought this U2414H last week. Nice monitor except for the display port issue. Using dual monitors at the moment but the U2414H have issues identifying the display port. And everytime I've restart the computer, I've to turn the monitor off and on again for the graphic card to detect the screen. I'm now having to use HDMI cable for the U2414H.

    Seems to me I'm not the only person getting this issue.

    Long story short. Get it if you're using single screen. Avoid it if getting dual monitor setup.

    Snagged one thanks, great value!! I use 2 x 27" versions of this for work and they are great screens.

    We use Display Port on these screens (about 30 dual screen setups on various systems) and can def confirm the issues people have been having. Whenever I can't get one to wake, I have been swapping the cable to Mini DP input on the monitor and so far I haven't had a repeat issue with one I have changed out for what it's worth.
