I recently jumped into the mirrorless micro four thirds camera scene and am loving how compact it all is.

I’ve been looking for a prime lens as my first upgrade from the kit lens and found this. It’s about half to a third of the price usually asked so seemed like a good deal, worth sharing. It’s only available in black at this price, which is a bit of a bummer for those with silver body cameras like me, but hey…..

A quick search will show that it has plenty of positive reviews, particularly for portrait shots.

Obviously it isn’t Australian stock but it didn’t stop me from ordering one.

That's a bargain - comes up as $99 for me.. fantastic lens.. I would buy it straightaway if it wasn't for the fact I already had it

  • Which camera can use this lens?

    • Olympus, panasonic mirrorless

    • +1

Should be good for all micro four thirds (Olympus pen and OMD, Panasonic also but likely worth having in body image stabilisation)

  • wow, cheap!

  • +1

Got this lens and love it. Basically in every m43 shooters kit since its TINY and razor sharp. Perfect focal length for portraits

  • Wow great price. If you have 4/3 camera this lens should be part of your kit.

    • totally agree, my brother has it.
      focusing is slower than 12-40..
But the sharpness is phenomenal! definitely worth the $!50…

May sit in the corner of my camera bag but when I need it, I know for sure it will exceed all expectations.

Looks like a pricing error/dodgy link.

Searching directly on BH shows both black and silver version is $399 USD -

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/971404-REG/olympus_v3…

Anyway hope you guys get it….I highly doubted thou.

    • fingers crossed

      • -4

OP you could have got yourself one without posting it here.

Now that it's been OZB'ed everyone's order will be cancelled.

      • Question: how did you get the product url?

    • +1

An ad just came up in ozBargain side bar for B&H - it said "DEAL $200 OFF TODAY" with a picture of the lens.

      https://imgur.com/a/u3Mni

      Seems legit!?

      Anyways, bought it.

    • It's legit. It's a 24hr B&H promo being promoted through https://www.criteo.com/ (aka AdChoices)

  • does it fit gh5 ?

    • +1

      Absolutely.

  • Weird, why this link show difference price? Special promo?
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/971404-REG/olympus_v3…

  • Excellent! Came to $141.94 on my Bankwest

  • +1

    Do I need it: No
    Is it a bargain: Yes
    Did I buy it: Yes

Thanks, OP, still don't know when I will use it, but all reviews suggest its a fantastic lens.

I doubt it would be honoured. Clearly a price error amidst Yom Kippur holiday.

      • +1

I've got an order number, confirmation and payment details, so one can hope.
They can not honor it if they elect to, PayPal will provide a quick refund, and I will leave appropriate reviews about what I think.

      • +4

looks legit - see ad on the side: https://imgur.com/a/u3Mni

      • +1

They've had such sales before so I'm not expecting any issues with my order.

  • Should I buy this or try and get the Panasonic 20mm 1.7

    • Both!
For the price this is at, dont hesitate.

They are different lenses with different purposes and (if the price is correct) different prices.

What do you need, a wide lens for travel/street photography or a sharp portrait lens?

    • I have both and they have different purpose.
You will use 20mm for wide angle/landscape/group photo. It is sharp as well. it is converted to 40mm in the old format.
45mm is for portrait photo, a bit more difficult of group as it is around 90mm in the old format.
the 45mm is Very sharp and for $150 it is worth a try.
Even if you don't like it, you can sell it without losing any money ( I paid $150 for second hand)

    • I'm waiting for the 20mm f1.7 to drop in price as I shoot mainly street and landscape photography.

  • I have the 12-40 F2.8 Pro and the kit lens (Pancake EZ 14-42). Is there any point adding this one to the collection? I guess the main attraction is that it's lightweight/compact. I think the next lens I buy will be a macro.

    • I've got the 12-40 pro and 40-150 pro. I thought buy it as its very cheap and if i don't use it i can resell it.

    • +1

You are missing a fast prime lens in your kit

  • Bought 1. Great find.

  • +2

Bought one but has no camera for it.

  • +1

Found mentioned lens, for USD99, on their trade-in page.

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/olympus-trade-in/ci/30695…

    • So it is a price for trade-in. Trade in with what?

      • I'm assuming it's a pre-loved/used/ lens previously traded-in.

        • That makes more sense.

    • interesting, the model number of the item is
      TIOL4518B ( TradeInOLympus… )
      might not buy ..
search for the normal one .. is OL4518B
so definitely reckon these are trade in ones.

Great price so I bought Three. One for the bag and Two for gifting.

  • +6
    • Thanks, cancelled my black order and got the silver.

  • Tempted to order and try it out, but why is it listed under Olympus trade in category?

  • that's cheap!! fingers crossed this is a legitimate deal…

  • Ridiculously good lens for the price even when it's regularly priced. This is a steal.

  • I think it fits my Panasonic GM1, anyone can confirm please?

    • Yes, it will. Will work with any Panasonic or Olympus m4/3 body.

    • It certainly will. I was using it on my panasonic GX8 today. An amazing lens, the gx8 has IBIS so the no stabilisation is not a problem.

  • hm so are these trade-ins?

    • I think they might be.. going to hold off.

    • It's apparently the price when you trade in old gear. Which is going to be a bit hard to do.

I'm happy to ship them an old camera if I get this price though!

      • makes sense with $200 trade in bonus when you trade in a camera/lens

      • Just to follow on…here's the link towards, B&H Photo pricing/quoting their price for your item that you'll want to trade-in to them.

        https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/tradeIn/Digital-Cameras/ci/67…

        • So the $200 discount is clearly factoring in the trade in….

I wonder what is going to happen to all the orders now…the link is clearly a loophole that allows you to order one without trading in anything I assume.

        • @mg_k: Even after trade-in the price is $199 not $99.
          https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search/promotion/13466/olympu…

So, still too good to be true.

        • @cheapo999:

          Yea…I just cancelled my order.

Somebody below saying it's a used lens and not new.

Not worth the risk anymore for me.

  • Ordered one but now confused. What is in box does not say lens in box.I am not sure if lens is included.
    What's In The Box
    LC-37B Lens Cap for Olympus 45mm f/1.8 & 14-42mm f/4-5.6 II Lenses
    LR-2 Rear Lens Cap
    DR-40 Decoration Ring
    Limited 1-Year Warranty

    • looks fine to me

      • Looking on my mobile cant see lens. Are you looking on your computer

        • Looks fine on the PC.

  • Ok thats good then

  • Managed to grab one, thanks, OP.

  • Would it be a waste to use it on a lx5 or would it work on that camera….. Panasonic

    • You can't use any lenses with the LX5 as the lens is built-in.

  • so this isn't a traded in product but rather a new lens that needs one of our lenses to be traded in?

  • These are definitely second-hands. Read the breadcrumbs link:
    Home/Olympus Trade In/Olympus

    • Even if it is second hand still cheap

      • Only if the lens is in very good condition.

All their new lenses have Authirized Dealer in their heading.

    • it's under trade-in not used, they have a separate section for used goods, I'm thinking that it might be an offer that's supposed to bundle with customers trading in one of their products to get this price.

      • You may be right about that. It could be that one's supposed to trade in a camera or lens to qualify for the purchase but the system did not verify.

  • Nice and will probably get one, but a bit too long. I have a 85/1.8 on a FX but don't use it frequent enough. Good prime for the 4/3 kit though.

  • Any E-Mount version lol? What a bargain

    • +1

The Sigma 60mm f/2.8 for E mount is probably the most similar lens in terms of sharpness, field of view and depth of field. I picked one up for ~$160 during the eBay POWER20 sale - genuine AU stock from dcxpert.

      • Thanks

  • Can someone clarify if these are brand new or used?

    • No one here can clarify Im afraid.

    • +3

According to their agent from live chat, yes it's brand new.

  • What a deal.

    Didnt need one.

    Of course i got one.

  • +1

Got one. Amazing price even for used.

  • Price changed to USD $399.00 as I was checking out. Price error I guess.

  • Now the price changed to usd399.
Good luck to all who bought it.

  • Price has changed to 399… i missed out?

    • Silver still $99. Be quick!!!

      • I wanted black lol

      • Just placed an order for silver for 99
anyone got a confirmation email yet?

        • Now $199 😆😆😆

      • It's now $199. Also, I don't think they'll honour the orders from when it was $99 since it's under the trade-in program.

        • got a confirmation email. hope it is honoured

        • +1

          @t0087669: Good luck!

      • Silver is $199 now.
        Appears the deal has expired.

  • +2

    Notes:

    1. The lens is indeed part of the Olympus trade-in program.
    2. Lens is brand new
    3. According to B&H, their "system will not let the order go through without a trade in."
    • IT guy to be blamed as always.

  • TIO = trade in offer? Now expired.. Link goes to $399 so seems to be a brand new lens at that price.. Fingers crossed :-)

  • Grr was checking out with the Silver and it changed to 199..

  • This lens is fantastic, and about 100 cheaper than when I got it a few years ago. Enjoy to all the people who managed to get one.

  • omg this is cheap. this lens is fantastic.

  • black already back to full price. as i was checking out the silver one it change back to $199 :( gutted
