the professional ozbargainer would just drink the entire bottle so they would not have to spend US$0.99cents on this

    • +3

I just swirl it around in my mouth then spit it back out so this should be real handy.

    • +2

The unprofessional ozbargainer who cannot drink the whole bottle would use glad wrap with rubber band (It worked well. Keep my sparkling wine fresh for 2 weeks)

      • I thought I was the only one who did that. Though, I tend to use foil.

Glad wrap and rubber bands are also useful for saving money on birth control

      • +3

A professional ozbargainer would buy cheap white wine and put it through a Sodastream to turn it into sparkling wine.

        • Nope, only an idiot would do that

        • +1

          @deathjr:

Call me an idiot then for putting cheap vodka through a Brita carbon filter to make it taste like Grey Goose.

The experiment has been done before. Cue to 1:33.

        • @Manh:

If it worked well with Blue Nun, I wonder how it would work with Bowler's Run..

        • @c0balt: ugh! Omg . Thanks for the memories. I recall blue nun from my youth - in the basement night clubs of Leeson St in Dublin.

A friend had bowlers run in fridge. I opened it and….YUCK!

        • @c0balt:

It has to be a particularly tasteless white, no strong flavour, not sweet, etc., and it makes big bubbles rather than little ones - but it does work.

        • @Msfrugal:

I've never had it myself, but it's in the video posted above by Mahn that is definitely worth watching for a minute :)

I find Bowler's Run OK, but I drink for the effect rather than the taste/experience lol!

        • @sane:

Well, looks like I finally have an excuse to get a Sodastream the next time it appears on this site. I have ~10 bottles of the chardonnay and sav blanc sitting in a cupboard.

Or drink half of it and put the other half in a 375mL bottle.

  • Thanks we never finish our bottles

    Excellent price!

Nice product but corks are fairly rare these days and the stelvin enclosure makes this product redundant.

    • what about champanges tho

      • +4

If you use a vacuum stopper on a sparkling wine, you deserve exactly what you get…

        • what would you get?

        • @Wootwootwoot:

Vacuum seals don't work on liquids that diffuse gas, over a short period of time the gas fills the vacuum and pop goes the seal.

    • +1

<<<<<corks are fairly rare these days

      AMEN!

      • The struggle was real.

Although I would say that something like this which causes a slight vacuum will further reduce spoilage from the air contained in the opened bottle if it wasn't under a vacuum.

    • It won't work on a scewtop?

  • +1

    Awesome deal thanks op :).

  • Ordered. Can't go wrong with the price.

  • These things are great! And I happened to misplace mine recently…

  • learned not to use one of this on champagne inside the car. popped and drinks spilt everywhere on the carpet.

    • +1

Not on champagne or anything with carbonation.

It relies on making a vacuum seal to work. If the liquid can hold gas that can be diffused (bubbles) then the seal will pop right off without even being touched.

Also if left too long on wine, as it turns from ethanol to vinegar it will release carbon dioxide which will also break the vacuum and pop the seal.

  • Real question though, will it even arrive? Zapal orders take between 5-7 weeks to arrive, and my last 2 orders haven't arrived in 2 months.

  • -8

Waste of money. Just use the original cork or screw cap. See this comprehensive comparison test.

    • This is for when you don't have a screwcap bottle, and don't want to reuse the original cork (you've never had one break inside the bottle?).

They also paid $7 for theirs and reviewed it at that cost.

  • Does this work on sparkling wine? If not, any deals on something that will?

  • +2

in case you miss this deal, it's 1.73 AUD here

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Handy-Stainless-Steel-Vacuum-Win…

  • I have one similar pretty useless

  • most of the bottle have screw tops now. So pretty pointless

  • cheap one works but either made of plastic or soft metal. the best and free one from gerog Jensen sparkling - the bottle is around $40 and $28 when on special.
