  • which one tastes the best from their range? :)

Pale ale and fancy pants are my favourites

      • Fancy pants is great value

    • +21

I found 2 full bottles of the Hightail Ale in the recycling bin of my apartment block the other day and they tasted great after I washed the outside of the bottles. (yes, WTF.)

      • +2

Cheers to you, why would anyone waste beer?

Must have been hipsters who realised they bought the hightail instead of the Organic Steam Ale (https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_335281/mountain-goa…).

And yes, hightail is one of my faves too.

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head. I live next door to hipster-central Newtown and am the oldest (& probably poorest) in the complex and probably the most environmentally conscious. I scab the return and earns out of the recycling (and the general waste) every week to take them 100m up the road to the refund place and was a bit surprised when 2 bottles were full.

I gave them a thorough examination for defects, tampering and use by date but couldn't see anything wrong so it was down the cake hole they went.

@brad1-8tsi: Mayor of OzBargain material right here.

It was probably left there for you on purpose by a neighbour as a sign of appreciation.

      • you are a true saviour

I once found a a couple of six packs of James Boags which we're in an Esky out for hard rubbish.

        • I once found a couple of cases of beer next to a crate full of old but good footballs put out with someones hard rubbish up the road. I took the footballs first as I was already carrying stuff and couldnt take both, and the beers looked like they could have been 10 years old or more. I went back a few minutes later and the beers were gone. People move fast for free beer, I wish I had the chance to work out exactly how old it was, or if anything happened to the bloke that drank them…

If you like good tasty craft beer, just dont buy the Summer and the Steam ale, theyre both drab boring beers, but would be ok for your generic larger beer drinking crowd. For me the Hightail beats out the Fancy Pants but its definitely worth trying both. The pale is nice too.

      • +1

Though these guys aren't craft anymore. Asahi owns them.

      • Hightail was their first beer.

    • +1

It's a pity the Surefoot Stout isn't there, it is delicious.

    • +2

      its crap beer for morons.
buy from boozebud - a small aussie company trying to make a living

and yeh yeh this is ozbargain - home of the "buy from the big multinational as long as its 10c cheaper"

and then there is a monopoly - look up how they turn out

    • Does it matter? Especially when Goat.exe stops working:

don't know if it's locational but Brissy is showing $15/6pack

worth noting 4Pines Kolsch is $14/6pack as well this month which is a really nice drop

    • WA also showing $15/6. Great beer, one of my favorites.

  • $15 a pack here too, store set as Geelong.

Is it made from real mountain goat?

    • +6

Correct, and Victoria Bitter is made from real Victorians

  • +1

    A delicious drop.

  • Same price also on the awesome Mountain Goat - Amber Ale

  • delicious.

What’s the Facey Pants & Hightail like?

My Favorite beer is Stone & Wood Pacific Ale

    • Stone & wood is my favourite too but Mountain Goat is quite close to that taste.

      • Thanks
Picked up the 2 I mentioned

        • have you tried it? does it taste like stone & wood pacific ale?

        • +2

None of these beers are like Stone & Wood. The closest thing is the Pale ale but its more of a traditional American style pale rather than the really fruity Stone & Wood. The Fancy Pants and Hightail are Amber/Red ales. You will probably still enjoy them though.

        • @carlJack:
          Not yet

    • If you like Stone & Wood Pacific Ale you should try Stone & Wood Cloud Catcher Draught on tap,…mmmmmm

      • +1

        Yer have
I’ve tried all the Stone & woods and LE

This Mountain Goat is nice but not in the same league as Stone & Wood

        • As I live in the North Coast close to where Stone & Wood was originally brewed ( Byron Bay/Sunrise Industrial & arts ) I got to try them at the Railway Hotel in Byron ( on tap ) really early on. It tasted super fruity and was refreshingly vibrant on warmer days/nights, but used to get some unpleasant re-flux, even after just one scooner. Found out I was not alone as many people had same, so over time they tweaked and refined, as well as let the beer fully brew before release, now much better but still has similar effects on some people.

          What is LE?

        • @ozhunter68:

          Limited Edition

    • If you wanted the one most similar to S&W, you should have got the Summer Ale.

  • +1

Good deal and the Steam Ale is a great beer - although I have bought it for $15 before from First Choice.
First Choice do have a price guarantee, so they will likely beat $16/6pack if you show them at the counter.

  • Do I need to sign on as a member to see the pricing?

  • I'll grab some Mountain Goat on the way home - thanks for the heads up. What's the Great Northern Original like for $10?

    • +7

Bloody awful. I'd steer clear of Great Northern, regardless of the price.

    • +8

it's nice but I drink beer out of the recycling bin so maybe I'm not the best person to give a recommendation.

      • The naturally fermented beer that forms at the bottom of the bin?

    • Kinda like Fosters

  • Considering this on the higher ends of Beer, the Pale and the Steam Ales are really worth a try. I am yet to try Fancy pants, will probably try today if some are left.

  • +1

Showing as $23.99? Anyone else have this?

    • +1

      22.99 for me in WA

      • are you logged in with your member account?

      • Same, then I logged in and now it's $15

  • Would anyone say that the quality has gone down since they sold out to the big boys? I had a hightail last night, previously my all time favourite and it wasn't great any more.

    • I've had batches of terribly off Fancy Pants cans

  • Extortionate to reasonable - Bargain? No.

  • It was $15 at my local Dan Murphy's. Thanks!

  • Mountain Goats are making beer? I hope im as steady as a mountain goat after a six pack :)
    Nice post OP

  • I can't fault their limited release long necks. Always interesting. And agreed, why not throw the Surefoot in on this deal!? :(

  • $15 confirmed at Chelsea Heights for the Pale Ale

  • Fancy Pants is worth it even for an Asahi owned beer

  • Drinking the Pale Ale right now. $16 in SA and worth every cent.
