Any Other Option of Sending Device with a Li Battery in It from Australia to The US?

I've tried these:

Australia Post - no, because device (golf launch monitor) has a lithium battery in it.
Sendle - no, because $2000 max value and this is $3000. Also no insurance option. They're ok with the battery.
Fedex - 3-4x the price of Australia Post and Sendle.
Pack n Send - have to travel 30 minutes to nearest depot as can't do items with lithium battery via their self service. Have to email for quote too.

Any other services typically seen on OzBargain to handle Australia -> US that I can investigate?

  • find someone going to the US and a$k them to take it.

    • No luck there.

I always sent mine through pack n send.

    Maybe TNT?

    • I did look at TNT actually - needed me to call sales for a quote so getting too much mucking around for something so simple.

The paranoia around rechargeable batteries has become ridiculous. It's easier to send a packet containing cocaine overseas than it is to send a benign battery.

  • Qantas freight can send lithium iron batteries

And also Australia post can send the lithium batteries to the US. It depends on how many cells the battery is made up of.

    • I've had another look upon your post.

      The Auspost guide at https://www.master-instruments.com.au/files/product_warranty…

says "Can I send a lithium battery or an item containing a lithium battery overseas? No. Lithium Batteries cannot be carried by air or in overseas mail. "

      and:

      https://auspost.com.au/sending/send-overseas/international-p… says

"Lithium batteries and devices containing them are prohibited from being sent via International Courier services."

I'm thinking the first link is out of date (strange for a battery company not to fix that up), and the second refers to Auspost's international "Courier" named shipping service only, not to "Economy Air" etc.

Digging deeper into the Prohibited goods guide at https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/auspost_corp/media/docume… it permits according to criteria such as you have mentioned. Thank you for making me look further.

No worries. I no longer work with international mail or the screening of it. But from memory it can be sent via economy air, just not express courier (still with cell limitations)

      • Interestingly I found this post from Scotty who went down the same path - this looks to be the point the rules were changed.
