Was looking at the Poligon Siskiu T7/T8 but this seemed like better value as with the coupon it becomes cheaper than the T8 with arguably better spec. Not to mention the Marin has bottle cage mounts.

Not 100% sure on the ozbargain limitation on posting the link but here it is for use with the ebay coupon code

    Id take the t8

    • The short dropper post, centerlock disks and lack of bottle cage mounts were significant downsides imho.

      • I own the T8 and love it but I carry a backpack so don’t need the drink bottle holder.
If a water bottle mount is a must then I’d probably go the Marin as spec wise on these two are quite subjective.
        I

  • 10% off a Marin MTB doesn't look very appealing…
It's a decent entry level enduro though

  • I thought I told you NOT to mention the Marin has bottle cage mounts.

  • That is a ripper deal. I've got the Marin Rift Zone 2 and absolutely love it. The Alpine Trail is next on my wishlist.

  • Jv is not to ask her favourite question yet?

  • I'm going to put my 2 cents here in case someone is looking for a 'review'.

I like this bike, but my experience with it has not been smooth sailing. I have left it stock with the exception of replacing both brake rotors (see cons) and adding a drink bottle cage (and pedals obviously).

    Pros:
    - pedals very well, climbs like a goat
    - 29er wheels bulldoze everything
    - nice spec for the price (comparitivly)
    - holy shit the stoppping power. I came from Shimano Zee with 203mm rotors, this bike has considerably more stopping power. I assume its a combination of brakes and tyres/wheelsize/contact patch.
    - fork steerer left plenty long for stem adjustment

    Cons
    - front rotor arrived bent, currently both rotors replaced with Shimano RT86 while I wait for BicyclesOnline to sort their shit out.
    - rear wheel rubs on the non-driveside chainstay when turning right hard. A result of loose spokes/poor wheel construction.

    Subjective
    - pedal strikes/chainring bottom out. This thing is low, and extremely noticiable to me because I've come from a 26er GT force which had a negative BB drop, that is, it had a raised BB (the BB was ~35mm higher than the axle line).
    - saddle is hella painful
    - dropper cable is plenty long, like 20cm too long in my setup

So my experience has been negatively impacted by that fact that out of the box the front rotor was bent and after 40km of riding (95% on pavement) the rear wheel is flexing. Both of these things shouldn't happen on any new bike, and certainly not if you shell out $2500.

    • Front rotor could have been an issue with shipping and not necessarily a bicycles online issue, they should have a relatively straight-forward warranty process though and things needing fine tuning (such as the rear wheel needing alignment) is to be expected on new bikes.
Which is why when you buy direct from a LBS they always have you came back after a couple of rides to tighten everything up.

You save from buying online but need to factor in a bit in service.

      • I agree about the rotor.

I disagree about the wheel. Correct wheel construction involves stressing the wheels to simulate the first ride ie "bedding in" and then they can be re-tighteded. I do not blame BicyclesOnline for this (as it is a manufacturing issue) however they are the point of sale so they are the people I have to deal with.

IF a user is expected to repair their wheels after less than 40km (after literally 3hours) of riding then it needs to be made clear before sale. If nothing else, it is putting lives in harms way. What if I was riding for 4 hours in a single session on rough terrain? I wouldn't notice the issue and likely experience catastrophic wheel failure.
