Citibank Rewards points...What do you guys do with it?

Hi all,

I have the Citi Signature Visa (fee free), and have accumulated just over 200k over the years. In the past I have just used it to redeem gift cards but now it's even more expensive, I seldom check my rewards.

I then checked the Merchandise section, and the cupboard is rather bare. Eg. in the Tablets section there are 2 things, both tablet sleeves.

So what do other Ozb's use their Citi rewards on?

Shop direct with Kogan or Apple?? Flights? Transfer to Flybuys @ 1:1 ratio?

I think I might just transfer to flybuys as they have more stuff.

  • Usually transfer to Krisflyer or Velocity. I'd say the latter might be a bit more risky these days.

  • I get the prepaid visa cards. but they removed those recently… so my last set of points I redeemed coles gift card

  • Good question, I have a similar balance.

From an earning perspective, I cut over to the ANZ Black FF card so I'm hoping at some point that Citi will notice my spend has dropped to 0 and try to lure me back. Not cancelling the card because of the fee free for life, but not using it at all anymore.

Hey bud, just an FYI. If you don't use the card for a few months Citi will automatically cancel it completely on you and you will lose the free for life perks (do a search on here as a few have been burnt). I put small amounts on it every few months to keep it alive.

      • Good intel - I have a few random things that still land on it now and then so still have small bills on it. "dropped to 0" was an exaggeration, but its a >95% drop in spending.

disclosure I have done not research into this but I use them to pay off the balance, I assume this isn't the best value, but stops me hunting around for stuff I don't need. Would assume it's dollar for dollar with gift cards, if not a bit better (as there's no additional product to precure i.e. the gift card itself).

    • FYI gift cards in $500 amounts look to be the best value of the 3 options I checked. Significantly better than cashback. Slightly better than 'pay your transactions'.

      • Direct 'cashback' credit to your CC gets you $0.0025 per point.

      • Pay for your transactions using points (as calculated on a few of my transactions) seems to get between $0.0039998812 and $0.0040000000 per point, with $0.004 seeming to be an upper limit.

      • Gift cards get you $0.00476 - $0.00479 per point:

They've got most of the major stores in the gift cards. WISH, Coles, etc.

      • $50 gift card costs 10,500 points - gets you $0.0047619048 per point.
      • $100 gift card costs 20,900 points - gets you $0.0047846890 per point.
      • $200 gift card costs 41,700 points - gets you $0.0047961631 per point.
      • $500 gift card costs 104,200 points - gets you $0.0047984645 per point.
  • Coles gift cards for the parents!

  • Krisflyer points for now.

  • Best use of Citi points

    I have 1:1 so 20k pt = 2k flybuy = $100. That $100 is worth $96 to me due to discount
    so 20k = 96, $100 is 20833pt, very close to the 20900pt for $100 evouchers.

of course some of those evouchers I could get discounts so I think the only use are some places that I can't such as
    bunnings
    jbhifi

so I duno.. save up to $500 and get bunnings?
