[XB1, PC, SUBS] No Man's Sky - Coming to Xbox Game Pass in June (Worth AU$79.95) @ Microsoft

1100

Coming to Game Pass in June (exact date unknown)

Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action. In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.

Embark on an epic voyage

At the centre of the galaxy lies a irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.

Find your own destiny
Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry. Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards. Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.
Share your journey

The galaxy is a living, breathing place.
Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own…

I love gamepass, too good of value.

    • +9

best thing in gaming for many years imho

    • +11

Until you spend more time trying to decide what to actually play.. desperately stacking annual subscriptions at great prices.. knowing you have the best value in gaming at your disposal.. while time disappears and before you have the chance to play 2 or 3 game’s… the subscription is up.

      • I feel attacked…:/

      • +6

It's the downside of having too many options. I get the same feeling with Netflix. I'll spend 30mins browsing then not feel like watching anything anymore.

  • +8

Alan Wake is also now available.

    • +3

One of my all time favourites this game. Absolutely a must play.

      • +1

I think that was an Epic store freebie a while back, wasn't it? I must give it a try someday…

    • +7

      As is Minecraft Dungeons.

    • Bought the PC / Steam version recently… sigh…

  • Woah, awesome

  • +2

Good timing, I was literally about to buy this today, and couldn't decide whether to get it on PC or Xbox.

  • This is a good game. Not one I ever played for a long period of time, but I go through phases when I'll get the itch for it so I'll play it for a week or two then get bored / distracted and go play other stuff, then a few months later I'll get the itch again and go back. I've probably clocked up 50 hours or more over the past 3 years playing it that way. It's just a nice, chilled out sort of experience, and there's always that little buzz of excitement when you jump into a system and find there are planets (sometimes the entire system) that haven't been discovered by anybody, so you know you're the first person to ever see it (even if it looks more or less the same as millions of other planets since there are only so many biomes). The story they plugged into it later is a bit meh, but it's also optional. It's really just there in case you feel the need for a bit of focus or guidance rather than just exploring.

  • +12

$80 for no man's sky is stretching it.

    • +2

      LOL, tell me about it.

    • True, but still not as cheap as people may think due to the devs constantly updating the game, its kept the price quite high

      • -1

Not really. It was bargain bin fast and for a long time. Eventually they stopped discounting it so much

        • It was never in the bargin bin on xbox one…

  • Oh wow 😮 is it multiplayer could not imagine it being single player

    • It was originally a single player game (although the universe was kind of shared in the sense that you could go to a planet and it would tell you the name of the player who discovered it, if somebody had already been there), and that's basically what it feels like. They did add multiplayer later on, although I've never played it. I think it's co-op only, although I could be wrong on that.

    • Since I've been looking at the reviews on steam as a sale is currently on there and I am interested. A review kind of turned me off.

"I was so hopeful that this game had turned around into a great game, and yes it has gone back and added many old, unfulfilled promises. But to me it's still not a fun game for one main reason.

The game is NOT AT ALL designed for multiplayer. If you play with friends, you each have your own (identical) objectives to do and haveto complete them individually, barely being able to work together or even base together. At best you will walk past eachother and say hi but apart from that it's still a completely singleplayer experience that just so happens to have other players on the map. I got this game for the sole purpose of playing with some friends as it would be far more fun than playing alone, but you might aswell just play alone.

Personally, even playing alone is boring to me. Considering the fact that I got the game for a multiplayer experience without really knowing what to expect, it would be unfair not to mention that the game and each of its planets look very beautiful and the game has many interesting, unique and enjoyable features. On the other hand, the whole game just feels like a boring, aimless grind, there's no real difficulty and it's just not very thrilling or entertaining. That's just my personal opinion and you might enjoy singleplayer for the amount of content and the hard work they've put into it, although I warn you: DO NOT GET THIS GAME EXPECTING A FUN MULTIPLAYER EXPERIENCE." - https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198094712489/

Depends on what you want for your gaming experience… this game suited me perfectly.

I have this game on the PS4 (unfortunately), in terms of gaming experience I don’t have a lot of friends who would have time after work to hop on and play this anymore (families, commitments etc). Even if they are free, they are into short play times like over watch etc.

Even for myself, I like being able to just “randomly” chill out in this game by mindless mining. I don’t set out to play this game with a goal in mind. There’s no time pressure (as far as I know)

That said, I think this game is still better played on PC because playing on the PS4 pro sounds like the game is killing the fans in the console. So I’m on the lookout for a sale for this game on pc.

        • That is true. For me I like the multiplayer experience of these more grinding, relaxing games. E.g. Stardew valley, Garden Paws. I however can not enjoy them by myself.

As I was also looking quite heavily at this game for myself and my partner to play. That review has put me off. As the review says coop barely has any cooperation together which kind of defeats the purpose of us working together. But, I have not played the game and can only rely on the reviews and experiences of others.

          • +1

@Dswal: Fair enough. I admit that my take on games also is affected by my partner’s choices, there are games my partner would like to “take over” playing like the Zelda BOTW bowling mini game (I was grinding for $ so after an hour or so she got interested)

Same with NMS, my kid and wife just takes over to shoot rocks :)

But of course the gaming requirements are a bit different. We do play things like little planet or smash bros or Mario kart.

Maybe it’s just happens that we are not big on console multiplayers. (We have huge doses of that from ingress/Hp/Pokémon go )

            • +1

@slowmo: I accidentally hooked my partner on Zelda after never playing a Switch game or Zelda previously. I handed her the controller while I went to the toilet, by the time I got back she had already wanted to start her own save. It was kind of the gateway into gaming together.

We don't really do competitive games as she doesn't really enjoy that, so we generally try to stick to more casual, relaxing orientated video games when playing together. But boardgames though are a completely different matter though!

      • Not much worse than death stranding then

  • How does this work for PC? Is it shareable like Netflix accounts?

    • Can install and play on any PC, but as far as I know, only one person can be signed into the account at a time. On console you can set it up so 2 people can play at the same time, but I don't think that setting exists on Xbox PC unfortunately.

  • +1

So xbox games pass PC works like PS+? If you cancel and delete the game it stays in your library? Or do you lose access forever. Tempted for $5 to join and get No Mans Sky.

    • +4

No, it works similar to Netflix. Once you cancel the subscription, you can’t access the game.

    • +4

Game Pass works more like Netflix - you can play any game on there as much as you want (a) while you're subscribed and (b) while it's still on Game Pass. If your subscription lapses and you come back later you can still play it. But once its time on Game Pass ends then you'll lose access to it, regardless of whether you're still subscribing or not. The main difference compared to PS+ or XBLG is the number of games available at any given time - instead of 2, there are dozens. Although if you've been subscribing to PS+ / XBLG for long enough then your selection there might eventually get pretty big, too.

      • +1

Thanks guys, I might just wait until it gets on PS+. Not like i'm in a rush to play with a backlog just like any well respecting nerd.

  • hasn't this been floating for about $10 on ebay for the last year or so on PS4? free is free though!

    • It was exclusive on PS4 for a fair while and got really cheap due to people being disappointed in the game (bought mine for $15). It released on Xbox much later once a lot more content was added and people were generally more happy with the game and it has always been a full price game and hasn't dropped a heap.

  • Is this any good? I ask as I loved the original Dave Brabens Elite and Elite 2 frontier on the old school zx 128.

Is this a fancy version with trading and better mining? or is it like Minecraft in space?

    • +2

It's not really anything like Elite, other than the fact is has space ships.

If you loved the original Elite and Frontier, the game you want now is Elite Dangerous.

      • Steam? Thanks, I"ll have a look, seems to drop to $10- fairly often. Was hoping for a console version but can live with it on PC if it's not too demanding! (Pretty 'basic' laptop, MX130 2gb, and an intel i7-8565u/16GB!)

        • +1

Elite Dangerous is on PS4 and XB1 as well as PC. Note you want to get the deluxe edition (ie the version that includes the Horizons season pass, which includes the update that allows you to land on planets). The base game on PS4 is currently on sale for about $13 on PSN, but the season pass isn't discounted, so maybe wait for a sale.

It was on sale on Steam on the weekend for $21, but that has ended now. I actually bought it there, too, just in case I ever decide to get into it on PC. In particular, the PC version supports VR, while the PS4 version doesn't, and if I ever get into VR that will be the first (and possibly only!) game I would want to play.

  • +3

It's a great game now, you would find yourself buying this before leaving GamePass because you will always come back to it. So much to do. Like the Animal Crossing of space games.

  • Considering I paid $28 for it a few weeks back,it seems like I am missing something.

    • Yeah I don't get it either. Paying $11 month to play a 4 year old game that you can own permanently for ~$25 is a good deal?

      • +3

You quite obviously aren't paying monthly just for this single game

      • It's a $50-$60 game on Xbox. It's cheap on PS4.

      • +3

No Ozbargainer pays 11 a month for gamepass.

        • I think I paid $1 and have a couple of years left on it due to working Microsoft Rewards.

      • Cheapest price currently on PC is about $36, you can get XBGP for $1. And yeah, you obviously aren't paying $11 for one game…

  • +1

Game pass delivers again wow. Have been waiting to get a cheap copy of this

  • Dammit, and I literally just bought it…

  • Gamepass is the best thing from this generation, PS exclusive people better hope they get something similar this new gen.

    • +1

There is already something similar in PSNow, they just don't have it in Australia. I assume that'll change with PS5, but who knows.

      • -1

        PSNow is not similar.

        • +2

Subscription service in which you pay by the month for access to a rotating selection of games. Sounds pretty similar to me.

  • Platinum'd it in a week years ago.

Was meant to go back when they added buggies.
Was meant to go back when they added MP.
Was REALLY meant to go back when they added VR.

Watch me trade my copy and play it on Xbox instead now.

  • -3

That's alot of upvotes for adding a game that was in the bargain bin to a subscription service. I think ozb has lost the plot

    • +1

It’s more of an indictment on where Game Pass is as a service, it’s insanely good value.

Minecraft Dungeons was also added today.

    • you are not paying just for this game though. you get access to whichever game that is currently open when you are subscribed to this service. Personally I think this is a good deal but it's not suitable for everyone even myself, I don't have a lot of time to play games now, so i don't get to make full use of the sub. So I rather save the $ up and buy only the game I want to play instead… same with the humble bundle.

      • -1

But this deal is about the ADDITION to the service. Not the whole service. Otherwise the thread would be closed as a dupe.

No argument that the service is great value

  • 105 upvotes! Must be a good game.

  • So it's currently on special (ends today) for like $39 at the Xbox store and I would like to own it. Question is, do I wait and hope it drops further in price once it's released on Gamepass or buy today.

I guess it's likely that second hand disc copies might become cheap for a while whilst its on gamepass.

  • Just posting to say that this is now live on Game Pass :) Downloading now!

  • I have Gamepass and it's still $64 for me
