  • Do these make the slight bubbling sound most defusers make. Have a couple but the bubbling sound makes me not be able to sleep as any noise triggers me during sleep time

    • +7

Yes. The ultrasonic vibration shoots the water up, splashing back down (the bubbling sound). I find the sound soothing.

    • +1

The bubbling sound isn’t as loud as other brands I’ve used but notice more the whirring of the fan. I agree and find it soothing. Others I’ve used that bubble loudly make me want to use the bathroom too much during the night!

Had one. Worked for one day after leaving it in the box for about 3 months. Next day the fan stopped working. Amazon issued a full refund on return. Really wanted it to work. Only other negative is that I found it a bit large compared to my other diffusers.

    • literally the exact situation i encountered, cheap landfill. Got my refund as well.

  • Just wondering, will these essential oil diffusers make the surrounding surface oily?

    • I don’t find that it does. Pushes the mist out quite strong from the top edge.

  • +2

It's butt ugly, but it performs well? If it gets the OB tick of approval I might buy one. I also generally like Astivita, if anything goes wrong they are approachable.

Actually just found Infidel's review from last year, good enough for me. Sold.

    • +2

      I wouldn't trust an Infidel😉

There were a few faulty units received by others.
The transducer (silver disc in base of reservoir) had leaked before delivery. That caused corrosion inside unit. So in those few faulty units, the water leaked with a brown stain.

I stripped down a unit & couldn't see a problem until photos were posted. The corrosion did not happen with first use - it was a faulty unit.

Suggest placing on plate to check if leaks before use. Seems was only in a few, which were refunded.

Happy with my units after 6 months use.

I bought one in December and it’s been fine to use as a humidifier occasionally. Agree, the logo isn’t great to look at. I’ve been wondering if nail polish remover would get rid of it. Anyone have any experience?

  • Have one in the box, still figuring out where to get suitable oil to use with it. Any help would be appreciated.

The Bositos range (can be found at Chemist Warehouse) are really good, but pricey. Stay away from all that cheap kmart and amazon rubbish.

      • if it smells good whats the issue? - genuinely asking (kmart & amazon oil user)

Generally you run the risk with cheapies that they’re not naturally derived, cut with esthers or carier oils that clog up your machine. Also seeing as you’re breathing it in afterall, might as well ensure what you’re breathing is not carcinogenic.

          • @ajole:

oils that clog up your machine

            What's to clog up?
The ultrasonic transducer in these is a simple flat disk in the base of reservoir. Easy to clean & nothing to clog.

Other diffusers can have a more complex system that is prone to clogging over time. I've got a dead one of those.

      • Thanks 👍

    • You don't even need oils.

I've used it with vanilla essence in the kitchen - economical & smells good (from cake baking section of supermarket).

      Or fragrances. (Not soaps etc)

But consider if they will affect the ultrasonic transducer (metal circle) in the base. Havent had any problem in 6 months using these units.

Only need a few drops in the water, replenish as needed.

  • Save your time don't get this diffuser - I've gone through two both lasted less than a month. Spend a little more. Also I'm 90% this diffuser leaked everywhere and blew one of my power sockets.

    • Any recommendations?

      • Majority seem to have been happy with these. Thousands were sold. There were a few defective leaking units earlier.
Astivita offered refund & replacement unit. Only a few complained.

I repeatedly advised in Deals to place on a plate etc just in case unit is defective or more likely - someone knocks unit. That can happen with most diffusers.

I paid much more for smaller one from Chinese site before this unit, that quickly failed. And kept being knocked over spilling water.

Have been using 2 for over 6 months. One hasn't be turned on for a while, so powered it up & it's operating like new. Happy with these at a good price.

Bought one in December, works perfectly and my wife uses it regularly. Really happy with it

  • Need some help OzBs. Not very familiar with oil diffusers. Just googled some info about it.

    1. So do you guys use it in your bedrooms for a good night's sleep or in living areas just for the aroma?

    2. If in the bedroom, is the light too bright or it's possible to dim it?

    3. Is it just another luxury product or do they really work?

use these in any room you want to humidify, create a nice smell, or just a coloured light (or all 3)

They look nice just as color changing lights - especially using more than 1 turned on at same time to synchronise colours.

Have mine in bedroom (essential oils for mood & sleep, night / mood lighting) & kitchen (mask odours / create pleasant scent in house).

      2
the light is on a separate switch, so can be turned on/off, change colours, but no dimmer.

      3
it works as expected, but not a necessary product. In my case, only used occasionally.
Bought @$9.75 6 months ago - happy with my 2. I was replacing a cheap tea light oil burner used for years.

I've used it with vanilla essence in the kitchen - economical & smells good (from cake baking section of supermarket) or rose water, fragrances, & more expensive essential oil blends.

For years, I've occasionally used the same relaxing or sweet dreams essential oil blends - to help me sleep. But it's probably just the association of the smell with sleep that actually helps.

Only needs a few drops of a nice smelling fragrance in the water, replace as needed.

      • Thanks @the INFIDEL. I'll get this one and experience how it feels. Using vanilla essence is a good tip as it's already available in the house.

        • +1

That's also why I grabbed the vanilla essence. And it's cheap.
My Father used it to wipe down the fridge to make the inside smell nice. I love the smell.
