The new USB naming is a head (profanity).

  • Great price on a really solid gaming laptop. Harvey finally coming through with some decent deals

  • Since when did Harvey Norman have decently priced anything?

  • How does this compare with the Legion 5 15 Ryzen 4800? Price is the same.

I managed to talk to the sales person today and get the Legion I5 1660 ti spec with Ryzen chip for $1,650 and then increased cashback 14% brought it down to around 1,450 after I got the quote through and went through cashback. I'm pretty happy with that.

My recommendation - talk to the sales person for Lenovo each time.

I was tossing up between this and the Predator - but went with Legion as saw some bad reviews on this year's version of Predator.

          • @Mickyt1985: Predator has a much better GPU though so they're not really comparable, especially with games that support raytracing.

            • -1

@RC13: Is there really that much difference between the base 2060 and the 1660 ti?

CPU performance is better in the Ryzen. Faster Ram.

Granted - I'm not heavy into gaming. The most I really play is like Among Us and Football Manager on Steam so the above was more than enough for me with the gaming I do on laptop and then watching movies.

I was considering the Predator as I said…I just got put off by some of the reviews I saw.

@Mickyt1985: The FPS difference is not huge, but the big difference between the 16XX and the 20XX (RTX) cards is that the RTX cards support raytracing which will become much more prevalent in the next 5 years.

If you're not playing games that use raytracing like AC, Cyberpunk, etc then the 1660Ti should be fine. And you could run Among Us on integrated graphics easily :D

This seems like a good price. Can anyone confirm if it can be upgraded with more ram and extra HDD. I was about to pull the trigger on a meta box laptop. Now I can't decide. Any one have an opinion?

    • You'd definetly want to put in an extra 16GB stick, it has two RAM slots but only comes with one filled.

Also has an empty M.2 slot and 2.5 inch drive bay so upgrading storage is no worry

    • Same. I was going to get a metabox but their discounts are very lightweight and I doubt I'll get value by paying $600-700 more for a metabox.

  • Can anyone confirm if it can be upgraded with more ram and extra HDD.

Looks its a yes for both.

  • Looks like a killer deal. Wonder what the competition will do in response

  • Great value. I cant identify similar specs <$1700 except for dell.

  • does anyone know if harvey norman giftcards stack?

    • If you're asking whether you can use more than 1 gift card, yes you can as I used 3x $500 and 2x $100 gift cards to make my purchase. Bought them at 7.25% discount from Redeemyourgiftcard, brought it down to $1582 and $4 leftover on a gift card.

      • Do you have a redeemyourgiftcard promo code for Harvey Norman?

      • I tried to do the same thing with redeemyourgiftcard but the codes still haven't arrived. I'm gonna be gutted if they don't arrive before the deal ends on Thursday.

        • It took two business days after I paid for the cards to come through for me. Fingers crossed it's the same for you and you're good to go on Wed!

          • @RandomNinja: They arrived today, I'm happy with the discount but not sure I'll use the service again. It was pretty nerve wracking!

    Just got one last night.

Its awesome….the whole box, packaging, and laptop all v.nice. Has a big charger, ~200w-240w i think.

    Only issues I've had

    • Sound via headphone jack had some weird background static, solved it via using Realtek windows drivers and a shutdown (not reboot) and its now gone
    • Fan's have a jet engine sounding metallic whistle, which is bearable, but slightly annoying (only slightly)

Otherwise, its v,quick. And panel is ~300nits, looks good. Just ordered another 16G stick of RAM, for 32GB !

Just picked up this baby from Harvey Norma Chadstone using the redeemyourgiftcard with a 7.25% gift card making it $1582

    • you have to submit a bank deposit it seems to use that site?

      • Correct. I was a bit apprehensive as well at first but reading through some of the previous comments, the party seems legit and the process from making the transfer to receiving the code took less than 4 hours.

  • Anyone able to comment if this ram would be suitable for the empty ram slot on this laptop?

Managed to get firmware 1.06 working - it came installed with 1.07, which locked undervolting. Makes a massive difference to temps with about 90mv undervolt - https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/621064/predator-hel…

    • Bit of a noob, managed to get firmware 1.06 installed, but not sure what settings i should be using on throttlestop. All i have done is go into FIVR settings, and set the tuirbo ratio limits on the the cores to 36
      Any other advise?
      thanks

  • Has anyone had issues connect a monitor using the mini display port?
doesnt it seem to recognise it?

    • I've only tried HDMI and it has worked fine

      • i think i have worked out the issue,
im connecting to a monitor that doesnt have displayport only hdmi, so i have a minidp to hdmi adaptor, but i didnt know there are two types of dp apadters passive & active, and from the info i could gather online the predator needs an active (passive is "standard" and found anywhere cost less etc) to work, i have order one and should arrive soon, hopefully that is the case

        • Why don't you connect with an HDMI?

          • @Strikingviking: have dual monitor setup
so one monitor minidp and 2nd on hdmi.
            I purchased this:
            https://www.pcbyte.com.au/store/product/simplecom-da101-acti…
and the problem was the original adapter i was using, as it is passive.
So with the new adapter which is active all is good both monitors working. Would have been good if acer had mentioned somehere hat active is required and saved me search through posts and forums to work it out but all is good now

  • Does the Harvey Norman staff throw in freebies these days with laptops? It's been at least 15 years since I bought a laptop from HN (via salary sacrifice) and they used to throw in a free laptop bag, mouse and various cables…
